    There are so many times that a client has accidentally coded something wrong and I come in and do my checks before doing their BAS, and I can only recode the bills coded "GST on income" en masse if the client's Xero subscription is expensive enough. Having to undo the payment before I can correct the miscoding doubles the time I spend and therefore how much my client has to spend on my time, and if they don't have a higher subscription level then they don't have that money to spend.

    Hi everyone, thanks for sharing your thoughts on having a payroll report that calculates payroll state tax. We understand some of you are required to calculate tax across multiple states.

    While we don't currently have a report which calculates earnings based on state, some of you have mentioned workarounds such as using the Payroll Activity Summary report. This report includes earnings totals and can be filtered by a date range and employee groups.

    We recognise the value a report of this nature could have for our customers and it’s been added to the wider pool of ideas for our product team to consider for future development.

    While it’s not on our immediate roadmap, we’ll be sure to keep you looped in if there’s any progress.

    This would be amazing. Being able to designate which employee belongs to which state for the month (instead of having to use one of the two tracking categories) would also be amazing, especially for businesses in border towns like Canberra.

    (if an employee lives 5 minutes across the border into NSW, but usually works in Canberra, then usually the employer would be counting them in their ACT payroll tax. But if they work one week of the month in Queensland, then that month they're not working exclusively in one state so you have to go to the tiered tests to see which state they count for, and the first of those tests is where the employee's permanent place of residence is, so for that month that the employee worked one week in Queensland and three weeks in Canberra, the employer gets to include them in their NSW payroll tax lodgement. Fun.)

    Yeah - the big problem for me with my own workaround is that we can only have two active tracking categories, so if I use one for payroll tax then I only have one for everything else. I'd rather have a report.

    We get around this by manually assigning a tracking category to each employee, but that is subject to user error. An automatic report based on postcode would be easier (some of us would still have to adjust it for cross-border employees, like those that live in nearby NSW but work in Canberra, but it would give us a starting point).

    Hi everyone, I wanted to share another update regarding timesheet flexibility.

    Our product team is currently working on a feature that will allow employees to add other unit-based earnings types directly to their timesheets via Xero Me. This means your team will soon be able to record allowances and other non-ordinary earnings pay items alongside their regular hours.

    We know this has been a highly requested feature to help reduce manual adjustments for admins. We are currently in the development phase and will provide a further update here once we’re closer to a release date.

    As it stands, in order to do this correctly, the same entity has to have two Xero instances, one for each country, which is dumb.

    Thanks for continuing to raise the importance of this idea with us here.

    We appreciate why invoices and bills need to reflect the address details that were true at the time the document was created, and recognise the importance of this for record-keeping and audit purposes.

    As part of the work we’re progressing for multiple addresses per contact, we want to highlight that preserving historical invoice details within Sales invoices is something we’ll be solving.

    With multiple product teams working across different features we want to be upfront that work is not currently roadmapped for the Bills side, however we’ll keep this top of mind as that area of product continues to be developed.

    I’ll be back to share further updates as this progresses.

    We do this manually with a repeating draft bill set up to ensure we don't forget that the liability needs to be paid; it would be AMAZING to not have to manually do this every BAS and IAS.

    This is one of the reasons I refuse to use the new BAS option - I and my clients are still using the old activity statement because checking that changes or mistakes from previous periods are taken up within the time span that the ATO allows is kind of important.

    Hi everyone, thank you for your feedback and for highlighting how much Award automation would help your payroll workflow.

    While we don't have immediate plans to build this directly into Xero Payroll, there are fantastic tools available right now that solve this. We highly recommend exploring the Xero App Store, where several third-party integrations offer embedded Awards as part of their software. These apps are specifically designed to handle complex Award interpretation and can automate the manual matching process.

    We are moving this status to Not in pipeline, but we’ll be sure to update you if that changes.

    YES! Every time I have to do something for a client that needs me to know which Award their employee is covered under (or not), I have to look it up separately for each employee. Like when the minimum wages for people covered under a particular Award go up, checking individually who is covered at what level under which Award and then individually making sure that they're being paid at least that much is SO TEDIOUS

    Hi team, we’ve been reading through the feedback on manual contact classification, and it’s clear how valuable this’d be for many of you.

    In Xero today, contact types are shaped by transaction history. Bills and invoices determine whether a contact appears as a supplier or customer, which works well in many cases but doesn’t cover every workflow, such as where you use spent or received money transactions and contacts stay unclassified.

    While not immediately roadmapped, we understand the needs shared through this idea. It’s on our Product team’s radar for future improvement. For the time being, we’ll keep an eye on the growing interest here, and update you as soon as there’s progress.

    @Kelly Munro surely receive money transactions should cause a contact to be classified as an entity that sends me money ie a customer?

    Not a capture all but maybe a step in the right direction for now that could help, Maureen - Smart Lists could help you get a view of the customers that you've not sold items to recently. 

    You could run a New Smart List to view Any customers who have Not Purchased Any items In the last year - Find out more on Smart lists here

    @Kelly Munro that only works if your customers are purchasing tracked items. I've not yet found a combination of available filters that allows me to find suppliers, nor have I found a combination that allows me to find contacts where the transaction list is empty, or is empty for a given timespan.
