Settings and activity

Hello everyone, we appreciate you engaging with us about this topic. To clarify, we acknowledge support in this idea has arisen from a new requirement from the ATO that means large orgs that withhold over $1M annually to submit PAYGW weekly via STP.
While we appreciate why you'd like to automate this flow of information from Payroll to BAS within Xero there are two current options;
- Within Payroll settings you could untick “Reportable as W1 on Activity Statement” so your payroll data is not included in BAS, or
- Manually remove the W1 and W2 figures from your Activity Statement to lodge activity statements for clients that are submitting weekly PAYGW.
This idea is on our product teams radar, however we want to be upfront that at this stage we don't have any plans for developing an automation of these fields.
We'll continue to monitor this idea closely, and share if…

Any updates on this? If it's not going to be added as a feature at least a suggestion for how other customers handle it in their Xero files.

we've been notified we're switching to weekly for next FY. Please add the option, surely there are plenty of Xero customers with that size payroll????

Why are their foreign resident options, exclude from W1 and PAYG and super options but then you can't actually process the payroll? I know Xero helps you be compliant - just put a warning that you are not meeting Australian laws. An employee has just moved to the UK. I've got all the advice I need from the ATO and know how to pay him, I just can't pay him through Xero. Need to be able to add a foreign address and then if that is the case Xero should let you override the payroll settings - provide warnings but still allow it. So frustrating. Our current options are old school manual payroll records or pay for another payroll software that can handle overseas employees.

I process payroll with employees in 3 states. I have to separate out their wages for payroll tax and workcover. I export the employee summary to excel and manually calculate. I also add a formula to the reimbursement column to sum the wages and super. Would be great to have that as an option to calculate as well as the employees state included.

I only do the bookkeeping for two entities but it is frustrating that they're just called date.aba I have the double frustration of my mac only having downloads to go the downloads folder, I can't even save them to the specific company at the time of download. Would be great to call the aba files the company name-payroll(or suppliers)date.aba. Surely that is information easily pulled out of the software

Thank you for your engagement and sharing through product ideas, everyone. While we appreciate wanting more flexibility and detail in payroll reports, with payroll development quite separated for each region, and to help our product teams best understand the data that would be most useful for our customers we're going to close this idea and recommend starting ideas for the specific fields that would be helpful in reports and why you'd find this useful.
Taking a closer look at ideas for what's been mentioned in this thread we have a couple of ideas users in this idea may want to vote on;
Welcome to come back and share links for other idea you create that others in this idea may want to support. 🙏

Xero's reporting has always been it's worst feature. I used MYOB for over 20 years and while there was a lot that frustrated me about MYOBs functions their reporting options were significantly better than Xero's. The options are ridiculously limited including how you can view data in the invoices and bills screens. For those of us doing payroll tax (and workcover) in multiple states it would be great to customise reports to sum the gross and super (which I do manually in a spreadsheet) and select by state.

Hi everyone, while not directly from an employee's record it's possible to view an employees payslip without having to download it. If you select Pay employees from the Payroll menu, choose the required pay run you'll be able to click View Reports where you can choose the 'Payslips' option.
From here you can see the payslips for all employees in that pay period.
We don't have direct plans for adding this capability from within an employee's record atm, but we'll track the interest of this here and let you know if any change is planned.

This has always annoyed me that I have to download and then open a pdf if I want to view a payslip. If I'm checking something for a particular employee I don't want to have to open multiple payruns and then open that particular employees record. Would be very helpful to be able to just open if within the screen instead of then having a pdf to delete from your downloads.

Hey everyone 👋 Thanks so much for all the detailed feedback on applying work patterns for part-time employees. We’ve been following the conversation and understand that manually adjusting pay runs for pro-rata entitlements can be a real challenge. It’s clear that having this automated could save time and give you greater peace of mind.
I’m pleased to let you know our product team has reviewed this idea and we’re updating the status to ‘Accepted’. This means that while it’s not on our immediate roadmap, it’s something we see real value in and want to bring into Xero when we can prioritise the work.
In the meantime, the workarounds shared here, like manually adjusting hours in each pay run, remain the best approach. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, as your feedback plays a crucial role in shaping Xero. We’ll keep you updated on any developments…

We only have 4 part-timers but it is annoying that the public holidays and leave have to be manually adjusted every time.

Hi community, we appreciate many businesses have adopted single sign on with providers like Google, Microsoft Azure/Entra, and Okta to easily streamline logins to many applications and manage operational risk. Our team are staying close to votes and feedback of the idea here, and though we can't commit to development at this time, we will be sure to let you know of any progress toward enabling single sign on

This definitely needs to be made a priority. Our financials and payroll are the least secure.

We have a staff member travelling this year and will be using 2 days leave each week. Would be great to add this in as a bulk entry not having to do it for each week.

Problem half solved - I just went into Activity Statement Settings and changed it to PAYG Withholding Period as None. The IAS's have disappeared and the September BAS has no PAYG section.
I run a bank account called Integrated Client Account so I can match with the ATO portal. I run an 'account transactions report' on the PAYG Payable account and compare to the payruns and then I do a spend money to the Integration Client Account every week once I've filed the payrun. Then when I pay the PAYG I make it a transfer to the Integrated Client Account. It's a little clunky but I've just made it a part of my weekly payroll checklist.
