Hey everyone, thank you for all your feedback. We’re on a long journey to provide more granular access and controls within Xero features that our customers need.
As you may have seen in some of our recent updates across other user roles ideas we’re currently in the process of adding more permissions within Reporting and Inventory. Further to this our research has highlighted Payroll and Banking as areas that more controls are most needed, and are on our agenda as we continue to develop permissions and access to features.
Your feedback here and through direct engagements with our teams have been extremely insightful, and we appreciate all your inputs.
I'll continue to provide updates on the development of roles for features as we progress.

Hey everyone, we've been following the conversation closely and we want to acknowledge how important this is for many of you.
Atm, we’re on a long journey to provide more controls within Xero features that our customers need. Being such a broad idea that touches many areas of our platform, we’d like to encourage adding your votes to specific user permissions that matter most to you, such as:
- Bank Accounts: For more control over who can see bank account balances and access specific accounts, please see the idea here: User Role - Restrict access to individual bank accounts
- Sales and Invoicing: If you’d like to see changes to permissions around sales reporting and editing invoice templates, you can follow that conversation here: User roles: Restrict access to Invoice Settings
- Reports: To have your say on restricting access to specific reports, the relevant idea is here: User permissions - Assign user…

We appreciate everyone that's contributed here. Needs in more incremental permissions for bank accounts, have been clearly highlighted in your feedback - from protecting the confidentiality of payroll information to securely delegating reconciliation tasks for specific accounts.
Leaning in from our last update, our product teams have conducted lots of research of existing user roles, to highlight the most critical areas work is needed to power up our customers use of Xero.
Reporting and inventory are our first areas of priority, and you may have seen recent updates across ideas for these areas.
Permissions to bank accounts is another area that stood out in our research, but has more dependencies and will take longer to develop.
We'll keep you updated as our journey with roles and permissions evolve and there's more in the space of banking to share with you all.

Good day
Xero please advise if this is something that is going to be addressed in the near future? The CEO wants us to move to away from Xero as access to bank accounts and other confidential info is not restricted.
Kind regards
Linda

This is very critical for us as well. IF this does not change soon we will have to move over to a program that do provide this critical user role function. It is ridiculous that anyone can have access to bank accounts and critical information just to enable them to print reports to do their work...
We already had confidential bank balances discussed by employees who should not be able to see this information but how can you blame them if they have unlimited access to everything

Good day this is really a huge problem for us. Now our creditors and debtors controllers have access to all our bank account balances because they need to print reports. Bank accounts should be a separate role so that it can be taken off from certain users. Please Xero - my CEO just informed me we have to change to another system if Xero cannot comply with this

Hi Xero
Please this is very time consuming entering invoice number manually every month for SARS? I am sure it is going to take your specialists 5 minutes to add the invoice numbers to the report?

Hi community, our reporting team is actively testing how reports are grouped and accessed, and we'd like your feedback to help us design a better report grouping structure that supports role-based access in reporting.
How you can help: Complete a quick 15-min online activity to test how reports are grouped and accessed:
- Part 1: answer questions about the current report grouping
- Part 2: explores a new grouping and role-based report access
👉If you're interested, please use this link to get started.
We greatly appreciate your ongoing support & valuable input for the reporting team!
(If you’ve already taken this activity, there's no need to do it again — our researchers may have contacted you earlier 😊)

If the user permissions are not updated soon we will have to move to Quick Books or something else we cannot operate like this. To allow an Creditors Controller to print reports needed for reconsiling creditors we now have to give her access to our whole banking/accounting....what happened to confidentiality. Please Xero can you do something about this

We also really need it I now have to print these reports myself - would be must easier if the creditors/debtors clerk/controller can print them themselves to recon? They cannot have access to confidential info?

Hi everyone, our product teams are continuously reviewing and reprioritising their roadmaps for future work and although we don’t have any plans to change the credit application process this year, this is something we will investigate more closely in 2026.
As we begin to explore work for enabling credit notes in the bill payments flow, we’ll reach out for input to help us shape the design and approach so we cater for the widest possible requirements. Thank you all, and we’ll be back to share when exploration starts.

Hi community, your ongoing interest in giving users the ability to reconcile without viewing account balances is welcomed.
We understand why this level of bank permission control matters. As recently mentioned in my updates on this idea, while we do have current work for user roles underway there is more complexities to developing permissions within the banking space and this isn't on the immediate roadmap.
As we continue our journey to evolving roles within Xero we'll be sure to share any progress for permissions in bank accounts with you all, here.

This is really a critical issue for us as well! We are new Xero users but I would say if you have invoice and billing only rights at least you must have acces to the Customer and Supplier bill activity reports so that they can reconcile with the account statements of the suppliers especially? Please please Xero it must not be so difficult for you guys to do this?

We have just changed over to Xero and this is also a huge problem for us. The user with rights to invoice and do bills cannot get access to the reports for Customers and Suppliers - so I must each time print the reports which is wasting my time?

Hi everyone, thanks for all your support and feedback of how changes in navigation could help your use of Xero. While not across all areas of the product there are some updates in Bills that we wanted to share and may help the needs of some in the idea here.
We've launched Bills quick view where there's now an eye icon within the line of the bills list. From here you'll find more ease in viewing, and more recently being able to edit bills from this view without having to leave the list, meaning you can simply make adjustments and move from one bill to the next.
We'll continue to explore and develop solutions like this to help our customers get more out of Xero on the go. I'll keep you informed of other updates that could enhance your experience, here.

Thanks for your feedback on the thread. Though not useful for all, we did bring attention to the reports that could help some people in the forums here.
We'll continue to consider this and other ideas for customer statements as the platform evolves.
Again not a full resolve but another option that could be handy for some is the inclusion of the Outstanding bills link when sending individual invoices to your customers. Through this, persons of a contact will be able to view and get detail of the invoices they have outstanding with you at any given time.

Good day Xero
Is there any chance for change to the user roles soon? This is really becoming a serious confidentiality risk for us.
The employee responsible for debtors/creditors can see all bank accounts and private financial information, if their roles are changed ...they cannot do their work because they cannot print the activity bills to reconcile.
Can you please advise if there are changes being planned in the near future so that we can make decisions with regards to software?\
Kind regards
