Understand you'd like to level up to the Overall budget in an org, Sherry - Just in case you hadn't come across you may find the estimates within a Project useful for now.

Ongoing engagements (rather than projects with a defined timeframe and scope) often entail unique, one-off tasks that we would like to be able to add and close as completed, thinking of tasks as mini projects.

Thanks for your detailed feature request to introduce task categories and sub-tasks in Xero Projects.
We’ve reviewed your submission and have now moved it to the Gaining Support stage.

The time tracking feature within Projects is not suitable for staff to use as the interface is way too clunky for day-to-day use, and it should be expected that organisations will have their own time tracking software, so bulk upload is essential. Manually copying total hours per employee per project task (never mind individual entries) over to Projects is a big drain on my time each month.
The insights available through the Projects module are great, but the module does need fundamental improvements.

Hi everyone, we appreciate wanting the ability to assign files to the project itself. While this isn't something we have planned right now we'll keep tracking the interest through the idea here.
To highlight, though not currently available on the Project directly, it's possible to attach files to the individual transactions within a project e.g a Bill, Invoice, Spend money or Expense. i
Along with this, you may also find it useful to create folders within your Files library where you can collect all files related to a specific project for ease of reference.
Understand this isn't the ideal solution, but may help some for now 🙂

Hey community, thanks for your sharing and supporting this idea.
We wanted to share for those that may not already know - right now you can combine multiple bills to mark them as paid in a single batch payment? Bills display separately in Xero, but bills for the same supplier are combined in the payment file, so each supplier receives a single payment and reference. Appreciate that this may not help for all workflows of those who voted for this idea so we'll continue to monitor interest and feedback on the idea.

Hi team, the Payable Invoice reports will generally help you zone into your top repeating suppliers and better view activity.
As suggested, if multiple contacts of a similar nature are being created merge may also help you manage these in your contacts list.
It'd be good to understand if there are other needs that this idea would help you with here - please do share any detail.

and include the ability to track 'Tasks' and 'Expenses' against a single estimate rather than their own separate estimates.
Use case example:
We estimate that a task will take 30 hours, but depending on our internal resource availability, these hours could be a mixture of :
1. Time entries from our own employees, which are logged to the 'Task'; or
2. Hours charged by subcontractors, which are logged as 'Expenses'.
Currently, there is no way of seeing how the total hours (employee + subcontractor) compare with the task estimate. It is not useful to use the 'Project' estimate, as this often includes other tasks that I do want to monitor separately.
