User Role - Restrict access to individual bank accounts
To have the ability limit some users to access some bank accounts within Xero org.
Purpose: To limit some staff to not be able to see the information about the client’s bank balance.
Thanks for sharing and showing interest in how we can develop user roles to suit your needs when using Xero.
With many varying ideas for roles and permissions in different areas of our products, user roles impact all areas of the product. There are many factors we must consider when addressing how to solve for majority of our customers needs.
We’re in the process of conducting research on the current landscape and how we might approach some of the most predominant needs in roles for our customers. This being one of our highest voted ideas surrounding roles is a specific focus for the team. too.
Discovery of this work is its first stages and will be long running. There will be multiple phases of research and forms of engagement with users that’ll help shape the path ahead in this space.
We value our customers input and would like to invite you, our community to be part of this research and discovery. This may involve interviews and sharing further feedback through direct surveys or questionnaires.
✍️ If this is something you’d be interested in taking a part of please fill in our short form here.
Though we might not be able to invite everyone into every stage, our research team will be in touch with many of you over the coming months.
We'll come back and share on the outcomes of our research and any progress around development of roles in Xero.

This tool is critical and may I ask that everyone submit your vote so the Xero team would treat this seriously. 159 voted doesn't justify the important in this. Xero team is not helpful but let's get our vote up to make them understand how important this tool is to their clients. Thank you!

I have a staff member that needs to enter all the invoices on but I cannot give access as bank accounts are visible with payments to other staff etc. This is something that really needs attention.

I have clients that don't want their salary bank and transaction available to all their staff, so this is critical!

This is critical for us and seems like a such a simple thing to implement. Not having this feature is limiting us to delegating work within our organisation and hence creating more work for those already under pressure. Surely this should be a standard feature.

It's very critical for clients, as they want to limit their staff in accessing the bank account of their company.
It is causing issues to our client in getting work done by their staff.

Give access to files to process bills but without having full access / bank account exposure
The invoice only option shows files available but this is only on a transaction not from the files area.

Yes, this is essential. Please add this feature asap.
Thanks -

Is there any update on this? Is this being worked on?
It seems like such a simple feature to implement - makes no sense as to why this feature isn't available yet!

It would be useful to allow access to bank accounts per user so that they can add their own credit card payments and not see other accounts or post payments to the wrong account

I don't understand the "submitted Mar2022" when you can see it has been a topic of discussion with Xero from Nov2013!!
Come on guys its now coming to 10 years!!

This is critical for me - please implement!

It's pretty basic and extremely deficient of Xero to have ignored this request for more than 5 year.
Care factor by Xero is Zero !!! -

Business owners should be able to restrict access to confidential information by staff. This feature is critical.

I have had a reply from Xero, pretty generic but the more of us that vote and raise it it will get some traction.
Thanks for getting in touch with your query.
As you’ve found, right now it’s not possible to stipulate certain users only have access to certain bank accounts within the organisation and giving a user permission to view bank accounts will give them access to all bank accounts in the Xero organisation.
This is a request that has been raised with us and I've found the thread you've mentioned in our Xero Product Ideas.
We do receive large volumes of wide ranging requests from our customers, which are all regularly reviewed, analysed and prioritised by our product team. I encourage you to vote and leave feedback on the product idea as comments are read by the appropriate team here at Xero.

Perfectly said Michael. Have raised with xero support.

Good idea, I have raised a support ticket.

I have contacted my Xero case manager to request it be escalated. I have done a quick look to see how many other tickets have a similar level of support and there are a few but none seem to have the same level of sensitivity, which for us becomes a data protection issue as well.

Guys I am absolutely shocked that this is not possible. If I give certain staff members access to work on one bank account they have access to every account the company has. That's backwards to say the least.

I already have 1 client that has made his intention to move as they are growing and want to pass on tasks to other staff members but cannot do so as they do not want them having access to the bank. They have asked about this feature from they became xero users 5 years ago and is now fed up of waiting.

Perhaps we all need to regularly raise this on our own cases (rather than this forum which doesn't seem to be checked by Xero very often). That way Xero support staff will be having to respond frequently & maybe they'll then realise how important it is!
