Reporting - Option to add account numbers & zero balances to financial statements
Ability to have to have a check box for "Include Account Numbers" and "Include or Omit Zero balances".
Purpose: Because it demonstrates completeness to show that the balance actually is zero
Thanks for continuing to engage with us on this, everyone. While it is now possible to include account numbers, as mentioned in our last update we've been continuing to review this idea and look into how we develop the option to show nil balance for accounts when running reports.
Work for this is now in development with our product team. We'll be looking to implement a solution that enables the ability to show nil balance for accounts across the Profit & Loss (Income Statement), Statement of Cash Flows - Direct Method, Trial Balance, Cash Summary, Movements in Equity, Blank report as well as in Report Templates.
As work for this progresses we'll keep you all informed and updated through the idea here.

Is this basic functionality still not "fixed"?
If not do you have a date so that I can decide if I wait or move to a better product? -

I echo the thoughts of many others here. When will this basic functionality of having the OPTION to show nil balance become available?

Raul Braga commented
Hi Kelly, when this will be done? 10 years was not enough time to print P&Ls and Balance Sheet accounts with zero balances? What we need to do for you to understand the need of this? It is really disappointed.

Should include the Balance sheet

We started using Xero in July. After 2 months experience, we realize Xero is for small business/sole trader. It is not suitable for some companies with reasonable size. The report with nil balance is one of basic opetions missing. It is surprising that this is not solved. The equest was raised 10 years ago.

In multiple companies and systems over the years a basic go-to review of mine is to dump gl movements per month to see what is going on, strange account fluctuations, and patterns...couldn't believe it the first time I took a TB and there was no "accounts with zero balance" button

I agree with all the comments below. This should be basic functionality to enable users to extract a TB that is the same (with the same number of lines) every time and therefore reduce a lot of manipulation.
Xero's response of kicking this can further down the long road is quite insulting and disheartening. -

If possible, choose a few comparative years. While this approach can be helpful, it doesn’t apply to new accounts with zero balances.

Kristin is right, and her reason is the exact same reason I came to this forum.
I’m not some low touch sole trader, I consolidate 23+ entities from Xero (each with there own subscription so our company spends over $1000 a month on Xero), and without this basic functionality I have to have 23 extra tabs in my consolidation so I can do various vlookups and other data manipulation to extract what I need. But it is unnecessary and it’s not on. It’s making us actively consider our options. It might seem trivial to some, but it’s actually a main pain point to others -

It's clear to me that Xero's developers have painted themselves in to a corner with this branch of the code and cannot "easilly" introduce this change.
As software develops over time it becomes increasingly difficult for developers to make even simple changes like this.
Xero won't admit it but 10 years has passed without this simple change request landing on some junior developers desk, suggests to me this is the case.

I have stopped recommending Xero to others simply because of the lack of this simple reporting facility.
The product is starting to resemble a competitor who would declare a fabulous new service that basically change the colour of an invoicing screen.
Maybe Xero's priorities are not the user's priorities and this is disappointing.

You are not being helpful and this is not good enough. Just yesterday I had to spend half a day dumping 5 months of trial balances and using v-lookups to get data month by month into a trial balance template in excel I had to make so we could do our month end reporting. this is BASIC BASIC BASIC functionality. Xero continues to add useless bells and whistle features whilst ignoring essential needs. This seems to be the Xero ethos.

Alex I so agree with you however Xero software is sub falling well behind its competitors however this is a result of the attitude displayed by Kelly above.

Alex Marsom commented
With all due respect Kelly, it’s not good enough. Xero is literally the only accounting software I’ve used and seen (as an auditor I have seen and mapped trial balances from many countless softwares). It is part of the fundamental principles of accounting to demonstrate completeness. It is not something you need all the time, I understand that, but you will find from online forums most other products have the problem of not being able to exclude the nil balances. The fact this has been a known issue for over 10 years, and you have again politely told us as the users that it’s not a priority leaves little hope of a fix any time at all.

Kelly rather than re-cycling excuses how about getting things requested by users done!
This has been asked for so often you should be embarrassed by the repetitive requests.
To quote a well known American brand "Just Do It"

This is so important and would make every user of Xero's life a bit easier. It seems like it would/should be easy to do.
It's incredibly frustrating that Xero have ignored this and similar threads for so many years. -
Alex Marsom commented
how do we get traction on this, or is this another case of the product developers pushing their own ideal changes when they aren't actually users of the product themselves so don't understand why something like this is so essential?
-
Ian Kerry commented
Happy Birthday to this thread. 10 years ago it was started.
I am sure with all the increases in subscriptions over that 10 year period that it won't be long before we have this rather simple feature done.

Come on XERO this can not be all that complicated!
XERO is not run by its management or Directors but the product development team who seem to be a law unto themselves.
Came on Management time to step up - or are you a part of the problem?

Any update on this ? Last comment I can see here is from 2022 but it's still a really fundamental and much needed functionality !
