Fixed Assets - Attach a file
Option to attach files to individual fixed assets
Purpose: Ease of reference, being able to attach files and documentation that related to an asset
Hi everyone, we're pleased to share an update for attaching files to Fixed Assets as we near the cusp of the year! We have just started rolling out this capability to users. 😊
While this'll slowly be released to all organisations using new Fixed Assets over the next few weeks, see a peek of what this looks like below - Once available, you'll find the 'Attach files' button at the top right when editing an individual asset. You can either select to Upload files from your device or files library, or simply drag & drop files to the upload modal.
I'll be back to confirm when it's out to all organisations with our new Fixed Assets experience.

Great news. Can add not just invoices - but warranties etc...

Come on XERO 675 people wanting a new "experience" must indicate how people want to experience the improvement!
This is wanted so much by so many please expedite its inclusion

@Peter
Nope, still not fixed. Has been an open 'product idea' since 2013.

Am I right that we still can't add private use to fixed assets? If not then surely this is a very high priority as it recurs constantly and is in every other software available.

Thanks for the update. I don't appear to have the new experience on my system in Aus. I have a pool set up, with no assets in it, and apparently no way to delete the pool. How do I sort this out?

Xero team,
These answers are from two years ago. Can someone please provide an update on changes to Fixed Assets that includes the option of attaching support to assets?Thanks

Having documentation attached to a fixed asset is important for easy access and so external accountants can grab the supporting information easily and quickly to ensure all information is correctly entered and various other reason. To have loan documents attached etc. Very important.

Good that this is now under review - and even more important - we need to be able to dispose of parts of an asset, rather than having to dispose of the whole thing.

Nope, not for shareholders - to make (my) life easier and with far fewer clicks thus a time saver - didn't know that excel was 'beautiful', but personally love a spreadsheet! :)
-
Paul Howlett commented
@Zoe Minto - that's a big assumption you're making.
I'm assuming it won't be better, just different... more "beautiful" but with many more clicks and slower to load than the current system.
i.e. something that looks pretty for the shareholders, but is objectively worse to use as a paying customer.

Glad the asset section will be improving.
Also, could you implement a report section so that each code could be exported into xcel/pdf etc by nominal code and datal selection. Currently the report in csv (difficult to save) comes with far too much info and it means also that I have to used the data tab to sort/delete categories/columns etc and this takes so much time. A report showing the basic accounting detail for each code would be good - thanks -

We have a number of properties in our asset register, so we need the ability to revalue them. At present we have to "sell" the assets and then "purchase them at the new valuation.

Attaching a file such as an image or PDF specification and linkage to the original Bill would be great. But please also pay attention that some types of fixed assets comprise a collection of parts bought separately (Such as main item with added accessories), It is undesirable to have all the parts listed separately, because it just ads noise to the Asset Register,
so the ability to group a number of items together as one fixed asset entry is just as important. -

We should be able to manually attach invoice/supporting document when registering new asset under fixed assets menu.

It would be great to be able to add source documents to Fixed Assets at any time, sometimes the original transaction does not flow through.

We can attach these invoices everywhere else in Xero, so why not in the area that it is most relevant?
-
Nicole Beer commented
When registering a new fixed asset, it would be great to be able to attach a copy of the purchase invoice inside the registration information so it is "right there"

Currently an attachment only piggy backs a Fixed Asset Transaction to the Asset Register in "Draft" if it is done with the original transaction. If there has been a coding error & the transaction is re-coded to a Fixed Asset account this transaction does not even appear in the Asset Register in "Draft" so this has to be entered manually & there is no option to attach a file.
We do various projects that are Work In Progress & then capitalised at the completion of the project. Journalling the Total value to Fixed Assets & the same happens with this transaction also. -

The 'developers' are tasked to beautify and redo sections of the app that don't need changing. They're clearly not interested in adding features that their customers want.
I am presently looking for an alternative to Xero, to move away from this horribly limited and poorly supported piece of software.
