Custom payroll reports
It would be good if payroll reports could be customised, i.e. after making a change to an existing report, such as Gross To Net report, the new template could be saved as a Custom Report.
At the moment, it isn't possible to save the updated format, so I have to make the same changes to the standard report every month.

Notice that this function was requested over two years ago and Xero hasn't acted on it. Don't hold out much hope...

Will be great if you can run payroll reports for selected employees only.

Payroll Employee Summary heading does not show the correct pay period.

a report that shows just the payment to employer would be great the detail report client often pay the wrong figure

Save As Custom Reports and a setting for "This Week" is a necessity for weekly payroll.
Also many missing columns, Deductions need to be split depending on how PAYG tax is dealt with
A "Total" column that adds Net & Reimbursements is a MUST for knowing how much to pay each employee. There is no other report to use to reconcile employee wage payment and STP reporting, Adding columns and saving custom setting is CRITICAL for accurate bookkeeping.

I absolutely agree with Natasha Wyatt. I need the employee name and date in the Payroll Activity Report. Vital information to calculate payroll adjustments required and manual leave calculations. Bring back the old version of the report or the ability to add additional columns.

Yes, date column is needed. Also, having the employee name in the row is also very important

The new format Payroll Activity Report no longer has a date column so that the date appears next to each activity line on the report.
This has been the ONLY single report in Xero that can be used to review and calculate payroll amendments of varying kinds.
Without the dates column, We are now unable to sort by Pay Item and still see which pay period it belongs to.
Additionally, as I was providing that example, I've realised that the employee name has now also been removed from the line items so we also won't be able to use this report as a single Excel download to sort and review multiple employee pays either.
Why would you take away a functional feature that was previously included?

Custom payroll reports are a must. Read all the comments below and listen to your users!

Its a nightmare not being able to export to excel - its confidential information but this is the responsibility of the user and not a reason for Xero not to give this funcationality. The Activity Details report is in essence just the payslip without the prettiness. Would would be useful is a listing by payment type (all additions deductions including statutory and pension etc) by employee to a total that agrees to the Activity Summary report. Its really hard to review and audit the reports to ensure they are all containing the same data without check totals. Frustrated at the lack of reporting generally around the payroll.

As an extension of this request, I would like to be able to export payroll reports to excel - currently they are all automatically pdf and I can't opt to export like other reports in Xero.
Additionally the standard reports do not show the information I require. For example, the P32 is so small you can't read it. It does not have the month number included (UK, January is month 10. I have to start at April each time to check!). Then PAYE is listed as Income Tax. It is not income tax, it is PAYE! The employer and employee NIC are added together - I need to see them separately for my accounts and payments but there is no report where this is easily shown. I have to go to payroll detail reports than calculate manually. Because I can't download into excel. Plus the summary and detail reports are not useful as there are no totals - the summary total shows no specific detail for individual employees but the full detail for the employee shows no totals. Which would be ok if I could download into excel to calculate. So I have to calculate manually. I have to say everything else about Xero is great but the payroll is horrid. I have just moved from Sage and am beginning to regret it.... please someone check how easy Sage is and try and make Xero similar. Or simply allow us to download reports into excel! I will provide copies of Sage reports if required

This, in common with a number of other requested items has been going on for over a year now, with absolutely no response from Xero.
If we weren't so heavily designed into this wretched system, I would love to ditch it, but I suspect that the developers know this and therefore couldn't give a stuff about their customers. Please WAKE UP, Xero -

we need this done so we can easily upload csv with all necessary data onto our super clearing house. Currently have to enter everything manually which is very time consuming.

This would be a great feature for our clients. I understand that payroll reports contain sensitive data, and therefore probably can't sit in the customized folder, but it would be great if there was a solution.

I have commented before but I am certain that you could previously edit a payroll report and save it. I had a customised version of the Gross to Net report for ages as I need a specific column order and also can omit lots of the columns for my reporting. I don't understand why a previous functionality has been withdrawn.

I would sadly agree with the last comment about filing things in the "too hard" basket - it seems that xero is only interested in prettying up and changing its existing reports (not often an improvement, BTW) rather than acting on simple requests often many years old. The developers could do with having to use their own software for a bit...

@Parker adam - you obviously havent been using Xero for long. Critical needs are simply put in the too hard basket by Xeros so-called "support" ........

This is a fantastic idea. Custom payroll reports would be a game-changer for small businesses using Xero. It's great to see Xero's platform evolving based on user suggestions. Such reports would undoubtedly provide valuable insights and flexibility.

I would really like a custom report that allows us to see actual salary and superannuation amounts paid in the calendar month despite when the pay run was paid.

It would make things much easier each month to split our PAYE payments between departments and bank accounts.
