AU Payroll - Set up second auto super authoriser
Having a 2nd person as a Super Authoriser would be helpful when the 1st person goes on leave.

Hi team, thank you for engaging with us on your needs around auto super. I want to confirm that our product team are aware of your interest in this here.
Right now, there are a few other items that need their immediate attention, so while there are no immediate plans for developing this, it's something they'll continue to review as resource becomes available. If there is any change to share around this we'll update you all through this idea.

This is a must. It should be available for each user.

This is a must especially when from July 1st 2026, superannuation will have to processed every pay run. If I was sick, then my back up needs to be able to process super without having to muck about changing authoriser.
Preference would be that it's connected to the person logged in eg If I'm logged in and process super my details are there. If my back up is logged in, their details are there so they receive the authorisation code. -

In case of leave but also in case of emergency or if something unexpected happens to original person, we need quick easy backup options for business continuity

This is absolutely needed in case of leave

It would be useful to have the ability to have multiple authorisers for automatic superannuation. This would be great for our larger clients who have this option for other systems.

We will start to have similar issues when we start switching superannuation over to Xero from ATO clearing house. Some clients/owners will want to keep their mobile number as the primary user. For us to lodge super we will need to interrupt the client to get the information. Some of our clients are really bad at responding to emails & phone calls as they travel a lot for work.
As some others have stated some softwares & superfunds already have this feature so we may look into alternatives in the future.

This is also a problem from a payment perspective. All of our bank transactions require two approvers, but the super payment goes through with only the one approver.

I feel this is an important issue. Should something happen to the authoriser and they can not complete the approval (sever injury or death) how can the super be authorised? Just discovered a client has a deteriorating health issue and wanting to set up some back up options even though she is still very capable at present.

Ability for more than 1 person to be able to approve a superannuation payment in Xero. Currently only 1 nominated person can approve the superannuation payments, this becomes an issue if that person is sick, away on holidays, you have more than 1 person in an office sharing the workload. With the changes coming to pay employees' super at the same time as salary and wages, there needs to be the ability to have more than 1 person nominated to approve.

A 2nd person is definately needed in case of emergency or leave

This will be critical in Australia once the 'Payday Super' legislation comes into effect on 1 July 2026 as we will have to process super with each pay run. Having only one approver will cause a lot of problems if the approver is away, not to mention potential fines for late payment . We cant even manage/change the super approver ourselves as we have to go through our subscriber who is an external accounting firm.

Xero has a little over 18 months to implement this before payday super comes in and employers will be required to pay super on payday, even if the super authoriser is on leave.
I'm going to need Xero to pay my minimum 4 hour shift wages for each of the days I have to log in during my workplace's Christmas shutdown period in 2026, just to run super for clients and prevent them being late and subject to penalties. Looking at the calendar, that's at least five days worth because I'll have payday super on every single weekday except Fridays.

At least 2 people to authorise so that if one is away and uncontactable there is a backup.

More than one person should be able to process superannuation. At the moment only one person can process/ access super payments page. I know you can transfer access at any time to someone else, however if there was an accident and the person was unable to access Xero at the time to transfer access than Superannuation would be delayed causing potential legal issues for employers. I agree only one person should be able to access super at the one time but there should be a backup incase of emergency.

Crazy this is not an option

It is very frustrating only having one authorizer for Super Payment Approval. If you are overseas there is a significant delay in receipt and respond of requirement for code due to time differences. Other authorised payroll staff have to track down the one authoriser to finish the task. I don't understand why this is the case for super when they can approve and pay other payroll tasks. MYOB does not have this limitation so I am sure Xero can implement this into their workflow.

With all the compliances changes to superannuation payments and penalties associated, this is a critical requirement.

Anyone who creates a platform, who thinks only one person should be able to do any one task, has clearly not been in the real world of administration! Administration is usually a team effort of multiple people having the ability to do any task required within that team.
As we are probably all aware, super payments in the near future are moving towards having to be paid in line with the payrun it is associated with, which makes it even more critical to have more than one authoriser.
In the real world, people get sick, and there are lots of circumstances, including deaths, that happen without notice, and currently Xero does not support real life circumstances. -

This is a serious oversight. There should always be a redundancy plan for time critical payments.

I agree with the comments below. It is essential to have a second Super Authoriser, if one person is on leave or unavailable super still needs to be paid on time.
