New Invoicing - Date picker without using "Pick another date"
Can the New Invoicing Template have a the original way to change the date instead of opening the date dropdown to then have to open the "Pick another Date" option if it's not today or yesterday.. If it was today it would already have that day selected, so why is it an option? just added extra steps to select the correct date..
Hi team, I know it's been a while since my last update and we'd like to confirm that our team are working to address your concerns, here. We'll be providing quicker access to the calendar picker for both the invoice due and issue dates. Work's underway atm and we plan to have this released to you all before classic invoicing retirement. I'll swing back again as soon as it's ready 🙂

Why can't we just write the date in ie 30 9 then tab as it was. Incredibly annoying when you're adding monthly invoices for clients and there are extra unnecessary clicks.

What's the latest on this, please? The current pop ups and drop downs are a nightmare! So much time wasted, when it was so super simple before.

Please, please revert to the easy-peasy calendar view. Or at least give customers an option to default their preferred format.
The 'new' pop ups, drop downs, and then eventually 'pick another date' function is tedious at best, maddening mostly.I am at my wits end. Every day I make an effort to use 'new' invoicing. Every day I get more and more furious with it. You've had seven years - seven years!!!! - working on this, and it's an utter shambles.
Xero's commitment to "feature parity" (which is a cleverly worded way of saying you don't give a s**t about what your customers say and think, you're doing it anyway) should include improving the date selection experience, which is currently woeful.
And yes, I'm salty about this. Super salty, in fact.

Just lots of extra clicks to get the same job done.
Why change what worked so well?
It is becoming an accounts system for dummies NOT professionals -

As well as make the default due date work.

Hi Kelly
Great to hear that the product team are reviewing this. Agree with the point behind what everyone is saying on this thread, the new invoicing has created an extra click for me every time I enter a non-repeating invoice, which is pretty much a daily task for me.
I truly love the benefit Xero adds to my business, but still want to see new releases enhancing that love rather than diminishing it, especially around such core functionality as invoicing.
I see it was two months ago that the date picker issue was marked for review, do you have any update from the product team on when they are going to fix this please?
Thanks Kelly, love your work :) -

In Classic invoicing, tabbing in to the date field defaulted to today's date but it was highlighted allowing immediate overwriting.
Now I have to change to mouse to "Pick another date" or mess around with tab and shift+tab to be able to enter another date.
Can we highlight for immediate overwritiing please? -

New Invoicing - I get it—you’ve got to keep your employees busy, so they end up "improving" things that don’t need improving. But what exactly is the point of forcing users to go through extra steps? Take the invoice "Due Date" selection for example. We used to get a simple pop-up calendar that let us pick the due date in one easy click. It worked perfectly. Now, we have ridiculous options like 1 day, 2 days, 1 week, and so on. And to top it off, if we want to select a specific date, we have to click an extra button for "See Extra Dates." Are you kidding me? Why add an unnecessary layer of complexity? How does this benefit anyone? It only serves to create frustration and increases the chance of making mistakes. Just leave it as the straightforward calendar pop-up it was before!
And another thing—when you’re creating an invoice, you naturally work down the page. So, logically, you’d expect the "Save Invoice" button to be at the bottom. But no, someone thought it made sense to make us scroll back up to the top to save. Why? How does it make any sense to go down the page just to go back up again? These might seem like trivial complaints to you, but they weren’t broken before. So what exactly is "improved" about these changes? Nothing, if you ask me!

The date picker is meant be be more efficient yet it is at least 50% less efficient for me. All my invoices are dated for the last day of the month, regardless of when they are created so now it is three clicks for every invoice instead of the previous two just to set the date. How about a customisation option for additional quick selections, eg "the xth of the month" or "Last day of the month". It is programatically simple to do.

Why have you removed the calendar from invoicing? I have already seen how it works so no need to say pick another date. Previously when clicking the issue date it had all of this month plus the last week of the previous month. Very easy to click on the correct date. Now the only option is today or tomorrow. Most of the time the date is previous days as well so you could at least have that as an option. Then the copy function from a previous month takes way longer as well. Then the approval, email functions take longer as the old system it was all around the same area for the mouse. Now its go to the top, then the bottom then back to the top. All of these changes means my employer will be paying more for wages as 100 transactions now takes me an hour longer! I note youve still left the calendar in bills to pay the same so why change invoicing?

made selecting the date harder and the +0, +14, +30 dont work now for the payment date

It is ludicrous to force users into a many-step process for something as simple as picking a date. "Today" and "tomorrow" as the only shortcuts indicate you don't really understand how business works.

To add to this suggestion - with classic invoicing, using tab to navigate from the contact card across to date will highlight today's date, so you can quickly type the correct invoice date in. With new invoicing, the cursor goes to the end of today's date, so the quickest way to change the date is to CTRL+A before retyping the new date, which still adds an extra step. You could switch back to the way classic invoicing highlights the date without affecting anyone who invoices at today's date.

Agree - yet another step added to slow processes. I hardly ever want today or tomorrow and then to have to click "choose another date" ??? Please just leave the drop down calendar. Due date is even more confusing with various set options to add confusion before having to choose "Pick another date"

This is a ridiculous feature and adds unnecessary clicks therefore making invoicing take longer! Why is there also a 'today' option when the date defaults to today...

KEEP CLASSIC INVOICING!!
the new system date entry simply adds to work load! The second part to enter on the invoice screen is the date, and the old system works well with a simple date picker.
the new system required more clicks to get to the date picker???
It is literally adding to an already busy work load!!! ???I won't switch until this is corrected as it adds more work to operate!

adrian walker commented
agreed this is the no 1 issue that is stopping me from using the new invoicing system.
It simply adds to work load!
instead of a single click the new system requires several clicks. and if you fil in the due by date too then it doubles the clicks required!it literally increases work load!!!!
I do not want to switch to new invoicing over this alone.

Yes, when you are entering hundreds of invoices per month, that extra step of having to click then select and click again is a real pain. Many small businesses are not entering invoices on the day and especially not a day in advance, they're often being put aside to enter at a later date. What is the point of that today or tomorrow feature? We should be able to just click and get the calendar month as per the old version, if it's for that day then it's already set and we don't have to click at all anyway!

Agreed, this feature is terrible!
