New Invoicing - Allow blank lines to make groups of invoice lines
It would be great to be able to group certain lines of an invoice together (for example by adding some spacing between groups), to make long invoices more readable and logically coherent.
It used to be possible to add spacing on the Classic invoicing page by pressing Enter a few times on the description field, but this no longer works on the New invoicing.

Hi team, thank you for all your feedback. We're in the process of developing the edit view of the line item grid within new invoicing and will be incorporating the ability to manually add a row and the ability to move blank rows within the invoice. Once released blank lines will be able to be saved within the invoice so you can separate lines or groups of lines as you need. I'll keep you updated on when this goes live.

Just reading the Xero response on this item and notice that the proposed solution is to allow for a blank detail line. We don't need a blank details line - just fix the error in the new entry.
The problem is that the new invoicing entry truncates the leading / trailing returns/spaces when writing the details back to the main table in the database. Obviously the entry program extracts the invoice details into a work table (this can be seen by the fact that any leading returns/spaces that may have been in an invoice created by Classic) are still present. As soon as the details are updated and written back to the main table, they are removed.
The new entry has purposely included a TRIM command on the description field hence changing what the user has entered. That is an ERROR, not an enhancement. When will it be fixed? -

Is there an update on this?
We've been forced in to using 'new' invoicing for a couple of weeks now, and still basic features (that were a standard function of the previous invoicing) are missing. -

Is there any update on the fix for the line spacing?
It's much clearer for our clients to read the invoices when it's separated. -

Hi - I would like the ability to include blank and/or lines with description/detail (and no value) to make complex invoices more readable

Hey, I want the "add blank lines" to show up like on classic invoicing.
The new invoicing is a dogs breakfast, and your ability to implement useful features back into the new invoicing is **** poor.
Move your ***. I need this feature yesterday.

So now that Classic Invoicing is being retired.
Are there any updates on this?
Something that functions with Quotes & Recurring Templates. Two steps backwards and unable to invoice clients that require Accessibility invoicing.
It's not like you've been unaware of issue in the lead up....

Is anyone working on this? Can we expect this to be up on 27th Feb??

This is such an important part of invoicing, being able to add extra lines. Please fix before you get rid of the old invoicing. Still confused why you have to get rid of the old invoicing, which it has so much better functionality than new invoicing.

I feel like Classic Invoicing should be kept until this is fixed, I say fixed and not implemented intentionally!

Absolutely agree this is critical functionality!!
Some of us take pride in our professionalism, cannot believe Xero are turning off classic invoicing without this issue being resolved!!
To say I'm astounded is an understatement. We are paying a LOT of money every month for a program that isn't giving us what we need!

When is this being fixed?????

The previous version of invoicing had the capability to create a blank line by simply pressing the Return key before then typing the line item. The new version has removed this capability. So an "upgrade" has removed a feature that many businesses view as vital to the professional presentation of their invoices. My suggestion is that Xero's "process of developing" [now two months old] needs to become "released the fix" with acknowledgement that the downgrading of functionality was unintended.

Please don't take away the Classic Invoicing. The NEW INVOICING look messy, lumped all items rows together. This makes it very difficult for the customer to see the description for each billed item. Gave us back the CLASSIC INVOICING.

this is critical spacing the invoices out so it looks professional. Xero needs to listen to its paying clients and fix this issue. this is creating double and tripple handeling of the invoices therefore affective productivity.

Spacing at the beginning of each line is essential else the whole invoice will look like a big block of words. Xero need to work on this, else it defeats the purpose of sending the invoice directly from Xero to our clients as we need to edit the invoice using adobe to include spacing in between each line then manually email the invoice out...

Also, in classic invoicing we can put spaces at the start of a line to effectively indent the text. That doesn't work in new invoicing either. I was on board with giving new invoicing a chance until I noticed that. Switching back to classic now.

Hi Xero team
Please and we really need space between different lines

New invoicing is not allowing line spacing control. Single line spacing looks squashed and is harder to read but hard returns after text are being ignored. Classic recognised hard returns.

This has been a feature that actualy worked for me in the new invoicing for the past 2 years until a new update a week or two ago.
Now any of my approved/paid invoices just big have big blocks of text and are unreadable without the link breaks shown.
Makes no sense why they removed this feature and needs to be fixed asap
