Thanks to everyone that contributed and gave feedback to the teams survey that was shared in my last update.
There was a lot of valuable insights that the team are able to take from this as they continue to plan whats next in invoicing.
We understand and appreciate there are different flows for how our customers invoicing, and the timing of adding files can be dependent on these flows also.
Our team are currently reviewing and exploring solutions to enable attachment of files to an invoice prior to the Contact. As soon as I have more news around this I'll be sure to share with you all through the idea here.

commented1) I go to the FILES area
 2) I view an item and select the three vertical dots to choose an action
 3) I select "Add to new Sales Invoice"
 4) A new (useless new style) Invoice opens....
 5) ***WHERE IS MY FILE ATTACHMENT?????????? NOT THERE
**** I LOOK AT THE FILES AND IT STUPIDLY NOTES "Add a contact and save before attaching a file".
**** BUT THE SCREEN HAS CLOSED. THE FILES AREA STUPIDLY CAN NOT OPEN IN A NEW SCREEN, AND I CAN NOT SEE THE ITEM I NEED TO REFER TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*** I NEED THE FILE TO KNOW WHO THE HECK TO MAKE THE INVOICE OUT TO
 SERIOUSLY AGAIN XERO?????????????????????????

commentedFolks you need to create a support ticket about the issues. The only way to get any traction on these items now is to flood them with complaints and support tickets. If they use a ticketing system (such as Zendesk) then it is a benchmark and KPI for them that they cannot ignore.

commentedAgree with all the below - my time invoicing has now increased due to this issue. Being able to create an invoice from the file worked perfectly, now I need to be psychic and no who the customer is before being able to attach and open the file. the layout is also very large and the more compact layout of the classic worked better, now I'll end up with whiplash just to complete one invoice!

commentedWhat is this ****?... please see attached file - I've begun an invoice - drop and dragged the paperwork like I've been told is now functional in new invoicing, only to find out I need to choose a contact (which I've already done) and save... why would I want to save it when I've only just started. NEW INVOICING IS ****...

commentedNEW INVOICING - Prefer the Classic!!! With the new invoicing, it would be good if we can attach sales invoices before we have to add a contact. We process from files and when we click on Sales Invoice, the new invoice appears but no attachment. You then need to remember who the invoice is for and then you can attach. Also the date format is awful. I used to be able to process a date 21.02.25. Now I have to do 21/02/25 which is very annoying, as well as having to complete the due date as well. Why try to fix something that is not broke. Classic invoicing was so much easier. This new one just seems like hard work. Especially when processing large amounts. It is time consuming. Would be nice to have both options, so customers can choose.

commentedReduced functionality. Are the people proposing changes people who have never entered an invoice before?

commentedIt is bonkers and totally counter intuitive that Xero has made this impossible with the new invoicing. Please bring this feature back as it is a real pain in the neck to have to figure out a contact prior to importing a file when the name of the contact is on the file!

commentedAGREE. THIS IS CRITICAL AND SHOULD BE EASY TO DELIVER BECAUSE IT IS A FEATURE IN CLASSING INVOICING AND IN BILLS. IT SEEMS BIZARRE THIS IS NOT AVAILABLE NOW. I CREATE NEW INVOICES FROM A PO SENT IN BY COLLEAGUES SO NEED TO ATTACH A FILE FIRST TO DISCOVER THE CUSTOMER NAME AS WELL AS OTHER DETAILS.

commentedRaised case CX0015497634. Most of my clients send PO's to files before creating invoice. This is critical.

commentedIs there any more news on this issue? I fill out all the details for the invoice from the file that I previously upload to Xero. Until I can attach the file I dont know the contact details which the new invoice system demands to be the initial step. This is critical in our business.

commentedHi @Kelly, perhaps this is referring to the 'issue'; that when adding files that already exist in the library to a transaction or invoie, the UI does not given the option to preview the file, so a user really has no idea what the files are in the library.
See attached. all the UI shows is a worhtless filename and size and date uploaded. You can see from my example I have 100_+ files, so how the heck can a user know which file (receipt in my case) I need to pick to add.Sounds like a simple one to fix for a better UX to me

commentedHi with the classic invoicing my attachment would automatically appear on a split screen now you have to enter the customer account name first . As all my information to create the invoice is on my attachment I now have to manually write down or print off details from the attachment so I know who the customer is . I also agree with other comments that you need to do more clicks for callender and approve buttons etc so in all it is taking me more than double the time it used to take

commentedThe new invoicing page no longer allows you to attach/upload a file without filling out a contacts details first. We manually take images and upload them with the Xero App of our handwritten "in the scheme sales forms" which have all the HMRC required details filled out by the customer at the time of purchase. Previously I could create a new invoice, immediately attach the image of the form from Xero's Files library and then fill out all the details regarding the customer, and sales information from the image. Now you must put the customers details in first which I dont have unless until I view the form. please can the restriction be lifted.

commentedNew invoicing - attach a file as the first step in creating a new invoice. In classic invoices I can attach a file from the library as a first step. In new invocing I must enter a contact name first, however I need to attach the file as a first step to find out the name of the contact. Please reinstate this feature into new invoicing which is currently available in classic invoices and bills.
