Invoice Auto Numbering
We use our own numbering system as well as the xero auto numbering system. For customer invoices that pay cash, bacs or on account we use our own numbering system that originated from before we used Xero. I just amend the invoice number section on xero when a customer invoice is produced. I have always done this so no issues with that. We use the xero auto numbering for customers that pay by debit credit card. So everyone that pays by card during the day all get added to that one invoice. But the auto numbering system on the new version is skipping the numbers when I produce a manually amended one. eg. The first xero generated invoice number for today is 1505. The next invoice i add is given 1506 but as this is a cash payer, I manually change it to 13180. So I have not used the xero generated one of 1506, but when i go to add the next xero generated invoice it shows 1507. So it skipped the 1506 when i manually changed it to 13180. The old version did not do this. It recognised that the manually amended invoice number was not used and picked that up when the next invoice is created. This needs to come back.

3 votesHi Elise, thanks for confirming still an issue for you. As noted I'd recommend raising this with our Xero Support team via Xero central. As I'm unable to recreate this it would be good to get more detail with our specialists to see if they can investigate the behaviour.

UK Payroll - Include tracking categories in Gross to Net report
To be able to file a Gross to Net report and subtotal by tracking category. It's the only way that we would be able to report per category of worker. This is built into Sage and really important for a lot of businesses.

Budget manager - Archive tracking budget if tracking is archived
Budget Manager - Ability to Archive old budgets that relate to archived tracking categories.
At present the budgets still appear within budget manager even though linked to an archived tracking category. It would be great that when you archive a tracking category that the budget is archived along with it or just the ability to archive old budgets in budget manager. New Invoicing - Highlight relevant items when receiving 'account must be valid' warning
I recently encountered errors like "account must be valid" when updating invoices. It is important to list and/or highlight the relevant rows or item nos in the error message.

Fixed Assets - Allow dates to be entered in any format
In most areas of xero you can enter dates in any format, however, in the 'new fixed assets' this errors unless its in the one format Xero accepts.
Please make the date fields similar to the other fields in Xero, allowing any format e.g. 1/1/24, 1.1.24, 1-1-24, 1 1 24, etc

Quotes - Bulk send
Make the functionality of quotes similar to invoices, e.g. import quotes, bulk approve quotes, bulk send quotes. I recently had to send out 417 quotes for the same thing and they had to all be done individually which was extremely time consuming. If they had been invoices, I could've imported them on a spreadsheet, approved them all at once and sent them all at once. Instead each one had to be done individually.

We don't have any direct plans for this right now, but we'll begin to get a sense of the interest and keep you updated of any change, here.
You'll find an existing idea for import/export of quotes that you may like to join as well. If there's any other feature like this that you'd like to see welcome to start another idea. 🙂

Expenses - ability to use sum and subtract function in expense fields
The sum and subtract function in invoices is a great feature; it would be great to use it in expenses as well. I often have to itemise a gross expense total into separate items with different VAT treatments. It would be useful to subtract the itemised line amount from the gross total directly in Xero rather than using a calculator.

Tracking category—I would appreciate being able to create a report that lists the number of times a particular tracking category is allocated in a particular time frame.

Subscription - Projects as an add-on
I am looking for an alternative to Quickbooks. As a solo consultant, I thought Xero would be the most appropriate fit for my business. Unfortunately, the fact that I need to subscribe to the top pricing plan at $115 per month in order to be able to bill for time is totally unrealistic. I thought Xero promoted itself as being a good fit for small business???? I don't need to track projects, I just need to be able to bill by the hour and invoice my 2 clients on a monthly basis. I'm sure I wouldn't be alone in these requirements.
Please consider making time billing an option in your basic pricing plan. I really like the way the rest of the package is so user friendly, which as a small business with limited resources and time is so important!I am looking for an alternative to Quickbooks. Report - Add/remove highlighting from main drafts report page
We used to have the option to add/remove highlighting in a text box directly from the main page of draft reports, however this feature was removed and now we can only Bold/Italics/Underline/Bullet point, but no highlight.
It would be great if we could add this function back in, so we didn't have to go to 'Edit Layout' to change add/remove highlighting anymore.

New invoicing - Default quantity of 1 for invoice lines
In the New Invoicing Template you have to enter a Qty for every line as the default Qty is "0"... In the classic version and what we are all used to it's "1".. As a ball park guess I'd say the use of Zero qty on a line is a lot less common than any other number from 0-9 and I'd guess most lines are a qty of x1.. If I wanted to default my qty's to Zero, I can not see the point in making invoices :)))) Come on who made Zero a default qty for invoicing??

Aged Payables Report - Group by Planned Date
Allow the Aged Payables Report to be grouped by the Planned Date.
1 voteHi Alison, while there's no direct option to group by Planned date in the Aged Payables Detail report atm, if you change Group to None, once run you can click the Planned Date column header within the report to re-order by this field and it'll group all payable invoices by Planned Date.

Navigation - Adjust the clickbox surrounding the checkbox to modify the checkbox, not act as a link to edit the bill
Often I will be selecting the checkbox on a number of bills, and I will misclick and click on the surrounding whitespace of the checkbox. This currently is acting as a link and opening the bill for edit; which means if I just spent my time selecting a number of bills (Usually checking them off one by one while I review some details on another screen) that now my previous selections have now been lost.
Change the surrounding whitespace clickbox to select/unselect the checkbox rather than linking to the edit bill. At the very least, just make it not link to the edit bill. Thank you!

Reporting - Improve General Ledger Report performance for high transaction volumes
We have noticed that for our clients with large transaction volumes (90k+), Xero struggles to generate the GL detail report. Xero often takes 5 minutes+ to generate the report, or in some cases is not able to generate the report for the full fiscal year (either showing a blank screen or popping up an error - "there is no data to display"). Sometimes we have to pull the report piecemeal by account type and then aggregate, in order to present the full GL detail.
It would be great if Xero could focus on report performance, ensuring that the GL detail report works even for clients with high transaction volumes.

Client's financial year summary
As a NFP receiving multiple donations from multiple donors, we require summary of donations/purchases made by the donor/client as a single receipt including each donation/payment's invoice number, date paid, individual amount paid, total amount paid. The summary will need to include the NFP's logo, ABN, etc.

Ability to create custom formulas in reporting, specifically to be able to (+) some accounts and (-) others. Support referred to this as custom complex formulas, but it is a simple formula. We just need to be able to customize them.

Checks - URL for a specific check
Allow linking directly to the details of a specific check (used to pay a bill). Something like: https://xero.com/check_id_goes_here
When we export checks from our ERP to Xero, we store the Xero check ID in the ERP. It would be very handy to be able to link from the ERP directly to the corresponding entry in Xero.

Attach Notes to the month column.
Attach Notes to the month column.
I produce monthly P&L custom reports and add explanatory notes for large variations etc., when I add a new month column, the notes are stuck to the column number rather than the month, eg. I add January, but the variation notes I entered for December are now on the January column and I have to unattach them then reattach them to the correct column.1 vote
