when you open an attachment it should auto open on other screen
Most accountants use multiple screens some when reviewing workpapers is would be more ideal for any attachments to open on the other screen otherwise the attachment is always in the way of the workpaper.

New Workpapers - Ability to view Document upload date
It would be a good idea for all documents to have a document upload date so the reviewer can see if this is a new attachment or something that existed at first review. Also to have a tick box so you can say you review the attachment not just the workpaper as some jobs would have multiple attachments.

approve individual expense workpapers
It is difficult to do a second review on a job as your can not approve individual expense balances and workpapers. Also if you approve a workpaper you don't know if it has changed as the status doesn't update automatically. There needs to be an approval tick box for each attachment and each line of the workpaper to show that parts been reviewed.

Workpapers - Rearrange/reorder Checklist Items
It would be useful to re-arrange checklist items to the order in which they are being done

We recognise there are some users that would also find the ability to rearrange items within a checklist helpful.
While this isn't in the roadmap atm, we're keen to stay on top of the interest for this here and will share if there's any news.

New Workpapers - History of Activities/Events
Like in the Classic, it would also be helpful if each workpaper shows an activity history. Specifically, a log of who imported the data, who updated it, who marked items as completed, and who approved, all with timestamps. This kind of visibility is important for review, accountability, and audit readiness, especially when multiple team members are working on the same file. Having this built into Workpapers would make the workflow much cleaner and easier to track.

Show Journal Edit changes
When a user changes the journal have an audit report available to show what was changed. Quickbooks did this.

Workpapers - Setup - Allow users, other than Super users, the ability to set up Xero workpapers.

We understand how helpful it would be to allow users other than Super users to set up Xero Workpapers, especially where practices want to delegate setup tasks across their team.

It would be great if the account name would also be visible when exporting the notes section from Workpapers. The screenshot is from a download done just now.
The export to text only extracts the comments, not an account code or name.

Workpapers | Working Trial Balance - Enable Review Actions
Allow reviewers to access workpaper attachments for an account and to update the account status directly from the Working Trial Balance view.
Current Limitation
Our reviewers prefer working from the Working Trial Balance view. However, under the current functionality, they MUST navigate away from this view and open the Workpapers area to review attachments and mark an account balance as complete. These additional clicks add unnecessary time, and some reviewers find switching between sections disruptive and confusing. For simpler or low‑risk accounts, navigating away solely to mark the balance as reviewed is completely unnecessary.Proposed Improvement

Workpapers - Pull through bank account name and partial account number
It would also be useful if the bank name and a partial account number could be pulled through to help identify accounts where a client has many bank accounts.

Although this isn't in our direct plans right now, we're keen to better understand interest for this directly so we can consider in future planning.

The Ability to Group Shareholders' Current Accounts by Shareholder
In the classic Workpapers, we had the ability to be able to group shareholder's accounts by shareholder to get the net balance, by changing the group name in the trial balance. This ability has disappeared in the new workpapers, which makes it difficult to get a view of beneficiary accounts in the workpaper stage (i.e., when trying to ensure a beneficiary has been correctly paid out their account balance). Would be great to have this feature back.

Workpapers | Fixed Assets - Depreciation date
On the FA workpaper - show what date depreciation has been run up to, so can ensure it is complete for the period under review, which is not always clear from FA rec report or Depn schedule report. As a reviewer if not need to go to Xero to check.

Show if Xero period is locked
It would be good to visibly show the period Xero is locked up to. As a reviewer I want to know Xero is left locked without leaving workpapers to check.

Workpapers - Indication of journals that are set to Rollover
Hi, I have able to find the ability to rollover the manual journal in drafts. However, once you select to have it rollover, you are unable to see that the journal is set for rollover. Would it be possible to add a text message of 'set to rollover' in the Rollover column so different people on the job are aware of the status of the journals.

New Workpapers - Restrict option to delete comments
Currently in the new workpaper, all users can delete others comments/ notes. This should be restricted. We have preparers deleting, editing reviewers' review points.

New Workpapers - Add sub-headings in checklist section
Ability to add in the checklist section more description/content in the checklist section of the workpaper lines. This would allow us to include essential sections required by the CPA, like Engagement Acceptance/Continuance and Knowledge of the Entity. I built these in the classic Workpapers. Too bad I can't carry over the Workpapers lines I built in the classic version. I attached a screenshot of one section in classic Workpapers showing a line, the guidance and comments.

Workpapers | Accounts receivable hotlink - link to summary report for reviewers
The current account receivables hotlink is the detailed report for Accounts receivable which can be very busy - ideally the summary report would be better for Reviewers who don't need to see the individual invoice level of detail.

Workpapers - Only view related documents within a worksheet
Showing all documents uploaded when you are in individual Worksheet is too much noise. We only need to see the uploaded documents relating to that specific Worksheet not the full Workpaper pack.

Files previously added to a workpapers pack will now display on a separate tab.

Workpapers - Allocate and set up Folders in Report Code Category Order
Suggest Allocating the separate Profit Loss and Balance Sheet Accounts into Folders in Report Code Category order similar to how they are listed in the "Working Trial Balance". That way we can adjust the Report Codes to the move the accounts to their desired Folders in Xero Workpapers.
