  1. It's bad enough that new Workpapers only show "Variance" for CY vs LY rather than CY vs supporting Workpapers (the whole point of workpapers).

    This is not a Variance... it is a Change or Movement.

    Variance is defined as:
    - the fact or quality of being different, divergent, or inconsistent
    - the state or fact of disagreeing or quarrelling
    - a discrepancy between two statements or documents

    You'll notice that these all suggest a variance is not good (it's a difference of facts, quality, disagreement, discrepancy).

  2. In the create journal window of the new workpapers, it would save a lot of time if you had the ability to set up new accounts there rather than back and forth into the Xero ledger. Also it would be nice if the chart of accounts updated with changes from blue Xero when posting journals in the new workpapers.

  3. It would be a perfect scenario that with particular types of workpapers, we could auto post journals in the following year.

    For example - Borrowing Cost - if Xero created a Borrowing Cost workpaper that tracked borrowing costs and kept an amortisation schedule - this would then be rolled over to the following financial year workpaper - but it could go one step further where when it is rolled over and updated for any new loans or refinanced/paid out existing loans, we could have the option to auto post the amortisation journal.

    Same thing with things like Chattel mortgages, especially…

    Hiya team, we have recently released the ability to roll forward journals in new Workpapers.

    You'll find this option in the header of the manual journal tab.

    It's worth noting as you'll see from the note in my image - While you can set a manual journal to roll forward, this will not roll forward debit and credit values as often these will change year to year.

    For the time being, we'll leave this idea open so we can continue to track interest in being able to automatically roll forward manual journals with values. To get more insight of the use case we'd love to hear more detail of situations our customers have where you'd want to roll forward journals with the same values? Thanks!

  4. There should be a way that we can link a field in the workpaper (say it's an excel spreadsheet) as the reconciliation field and it should match the Balance in Xero. The status of the Account should be able to reflect that it is "RECONCILED" in that the workpaper matches the balance in xero.

  6. If the purpose of new work paper is for seamless compliance, should it not have the following features:

    1. Chattel Mortgage Loans

    All these features are available in the old/classic work paper.

    Hey everyone as you can see we have split the original Idea up into seperate ideas including:

    (New Workpapers - Payroll tax feature)

    (New Workpapers - Dividends. 7A Loans feature)

    And I have also added your votes to the following similar established Ideas:

    (Workpapers - Ability to change the terms in the Borrowing Costs/Amortisation)

    (Workpaper | Fringe Benefits - Motor Vehicle private use)

    This is so we can monitor interest for each of the features. The Product team will be reviewing these ideas and we will post any updates on these here. Again thanks for your feedback.

  7. The new workpapers need to carry forward lease schedules, borrowing cost schedules and any other schedules from the old workpapers. There is no way I'm setting these up again.

  8. This isn't a workpapers-specific solution, but the ability to see the status of workpapers in the clients section of the PartnerHub could have great development opportunities. It would be very useful to give a quick snapshot of the client and if it was also available as a column in the global client view you could filtering by work completed/ in progress/ not yet received. Furthermore, giving developers access to the API for this field would also open up other opportunities.

Whilst the 'Updated' yellow tag on the Workpaper and specific account is useful, it would be an improvement to also show the difference between the approved workpaper and the new updated account balance after the balances have been refreshed. It will make it very simple to identify the updates needed for the workpaper.

    Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your thoughts on workpaper variance displays. It’s helpful to understand how seeing the difference between approved workpapers and updated account balances could support your workflow.

  10. We need to be able to send the Client Queries to a client.

    The old Xero Workpapers allowed us to send a notification to a client's email, and the client would answer the queries and upload their documents which would be automatically imported into the old Xero Workpapers.

    Hey Everyone! Thanks for the feedback on the New Workpapers experience. Xero Ask is available on the Classic Workpapers but as yet not available in the new Workpapers experience. We've reviewed your idea and moved it to Gaining Support and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it.   11. In the old workpapers, you had the ability to generate the income tax journal to post to the Xero file. It would be very useful to have this option again in the new workpapers.

    Hi Bradley and others that have supported this idea. You may have seen we have made a recent update to allow journals to be posted from individual workpapers.

    It'd be great to check in with you here and see if this change meets the needs you have in this idea? We welcome your feedback

  12. The system currently does not display who posted the journal in either XWP or Xero (specific user).

    Updates made to journals in Xero are not reflected in the XWP Manual Journal Summary.

    Additionally, XWP only allows journals to be voided—there is no option to delete them.

    Hi April, I've just split this from your original idea here so we can gauge interest in being able to delete a Manual Journal separately.

    Currently it's possible to Delete a Manual Journal while its in Draft, but like you noted can only be Voided once posted.

    We'd like to get a better view of the interest in this from your idea here, and I'll let you know if there are any updates. Thanks!

  14. The franking credits workpaper is very handy but is almost pointless when preparing the tax return as you need to go back to the source documents to obtain the dates of payment. When ideally prefilling from the Tax Office, having the dates come through or being able to add the dates manually will assist with compiling the tax return.

  15. The income tax workpaper has the balance sheet workpaper. Unfortunately, you have to add an 'other adjustment' to record the prior year tax payment. It would be very helpful to have at least one line called 'prior year tax paid'.

  16. Consider adding workpapers for Inter-Entity Loan, Wages, Div 7A, TPAR, Super Payable, BAS, and GST to provide a more comprehensive set of templates for common compliance and review areas.

    Hi team, apologies we jumped the gun a touch on the idea here.

    Like previously mentioned, right now you can attach documents and links, set flexible workpaper periods, and use basic calculation sheets in the new experience.

    Currently our team are exploring how we might further enhance Workpapers with variations for tailored templates, and support direct importing of reports to improve the way data moves across your compliance steps. We'll share as we have more updates for you around this.

  18. To improve clarity and usability, please consider reorganizing the layout in the following order: Assets → Liabilities → Equity → Revenue → Expenses.

    In addition, including a Net Profit/(Loss) summary at the bottom—or displaying Current Year Earnings within the Equity section—would provide users with a clearer financial overview.
