Sales Invoice | Delivery address - Update for individual invoice
Delivery Address:
To have the ability to add a delivery address when raising an invoice that can be printed onto the invoice. This would need to permanently save the delivery address to that invoice. When a new invoice to the same customer is raised then have the ability to enter another delivery address if required without effecting the previous invoice delivery address.
Hi community, we appreciate the comments about your needs in this idea.
We get the importance of being able to set a delivery address for an individual invoice and have that address remain tied to that invoice, without overwriting the delivery details on past invoices or changing the default details for the contact.
With a clear understanding of the risks in altering historical invoice delivery details and delving into the wide range of workflows this feature would support, we want you to know this is something we’re looking to solve.
We have a larger project around being able to support multiple addresses per contact in invoicing, and as part of this we’ll be enabling the ability to update delivery address details on an invoice-by-invoice basis.
There are few steps for us to get through before we can deliver and get this in your hands but I’ll be sure to share more news as we can here. Thanks!

The changes you have recently made to this are causing us problems:
When you change a delivery address directly on an invoice in Xero, the system automatically updates the delivery address saved on that customer's contact record. This means:If you add or edit a delivery address on any invoice, Xero saves the new address to the contact, replacing any previous delivery address.
All existing invoices for that contact will also update to show the new delivery address. We deliver to different addresses for several customers, these delivery addresses need to remain on the Contact card. Now we can't do this. Why?

I would personally like to see an ad-hoc delivery address window from quote through to invoices. We deliver to multiple sites per supplier. The process of saving an address under the supplier name is currently very cumbersome, in fact I just type the detail in the body of my quote and invoice, giving site contact name and number. If the printed invoice can show this address and contact detail, it would be so helpful.

Update on this one please Xero? We bookkeepers have been requesting this for years. This original post is from 3 years ago. The one main weakness of Xero in my opinion. Tradies that go to multiple sites a day can not use Xero. My Tradie client uses an old fashioned invoice book and I need to raise invoices, without addresses, after the fact.

Rather than complicate the customer contact page with multiple delivery addresses Create a box/line on the invoice page to add in a delivery address which can change each time you invoice the customer instead of putting the address in the descripton box. I supply services to a local council within their properties and it would look much better on the invoice if there was a dedicated box/line that can follow through from the quotation to show the individual site address that work took place.

I just converted from MYOB and this is the most disappointing feature of XERO. You cant be expected to go into a contact and change a delivery address everytime you raise an invoice when you can have over 50 delivery address's (job sites) for each builder. This needs to be fixed immediately. Current format through edit contact is so clunky and really not acceptable. A basic feature having delivery address on each individual invoice I would have thought !!!

Is there any update on this?
I’ve recently migrated from QuickBooks, so it’s disappointing to discover that delivery addresses and delivery dates are not currently supported. As a new customer, these are important features for my business, and their absence is regrettable.
Could you please confirm whether these features are planned and, if so, provide an estimated timeframe?

Glad to see that this issue is finally being addressed. Pun intended. It has been a pet peeve for so long by a huge number of clients and has for the most part been ignored.
A time frame for when this basic option will be available to use would be amazing. -

Could you please also make sure that Packing Slips are changed to reflect the different delivery addresses or can you add a Delivery Docket.

It is routine for customers to have more than one address to which they would like products sent to, therefore this proposed enhancement is well founded.
When an invoice is raised, the user would select which existing previously used delivery address is to be used, or get to add another if required, without limit.

Good to see this is finally being looked at. A long time coming but I will be embracing the upgrade.

Disappointed that Xero does not have the option to save multiple delivery addresses and that you have to overwrite each invoice raised. This is going to be bothersome and could cause mistakes.

Delivery as well as address is needed. Having to update contact details all the time isn't futureproof

I am so embarrassed. I only started invoicing with Xero this year. We have just had a client call us and ask why all of their invoices have the delivery address of one customer. Every wholesale order they place with us is for a different client and delivery address. I had no idea that with every invoice I made, it was retroactively overwriting the previous invoices. How has this not been fixed yet?!

Hi there 👋
This is a long-standing limitation in Xero’s invoicing system—and unfortunately, it’s not something that can be easily fixed. The restriction around delivery addresses being tied to the contact record (rather than stored individually per invoice) has been baked into Xero’s design since day one. That means when you update a contact’s delivery address, it retroactively changes on all historical invoices linked to that contact. This creates real problems for businesses that invoice multiple locations for the same customer—especially when you need to reference or reissue an old invoice with the original delivery address intact.
✅ That’s exactly why we built Control-C.
Control-C is a Xero-certified backup and versioning service that captures every invoice exactly as it was issued—including the delivery address at the time. Even if you update the contact in Xero, Control-C retains the original invoice version, so you can always retrieve it with the correct delivery details.
Here’s how Control-C helps:
• 🗂️ Preserves the original invoice layout and delivery address—even after contact edits.
• 🔒 Provides immutable backups of every invoice, bill, and contact record.
• 🕵️ Gives you a full audit trail and historical access to every version of your data. While Xero may not be able to redesign this behaviour easily, Control-C gives you a reliable workaround and protection against data loss or compliance issues.
We’re also rolling out near real-time versioning, so changes and deletions are captured within minutes, not just daily.
📌 If you’re serious about protecting your financial records and ensuring audit transparency, we’d love to help if you’d like to see how it works with your organisation.

One time cash sales. We need to enter the customers full details. Its pointless to create a card for each customer.
MYOB has this simple key feature. Its hard to transition to Xero with this limitation. -

This needs to be added as an option like now. Unfortunately for now, we are going to have to cancel our subscription to Xero, which I have been using for almost 10 years, but have to use another program that does do this. The program sucks, so it is absolutely astounding that Xero hasn't incorporated it from the beginning. The work arounds don't work either. As soon as you get it sorted, I am sure I will be back . Sooooo sorry to leave.

Please focus on this update.
Residential Tradies would find this a huge benefit when they can visit several once of customers a day.
