New invoicing - When sending show organisation's trading name at top of invoice
The email template has changed which accompanies the invoice to the customer. We have a legal name plus a trading as name which people know us by. Currently the legal name is showing up boldly at the top of the email which it didn't before. We would like the trading name to be in this place so as not to cause confusion to our customers, or have the ability to remove it entirely as it has the logo there displaying the correct name.
Hi community, we really appreciate your feedback on this and hearing why you'd like to be able to change the organisation's name that's shown when sending invoices from Xero.
This is on our teams radar, and is something they may look into longer term however we want to be open that it's not in the current roadmap.
We'll continue to track and keep across the interest from our community, and if there's any news to share we'll update you on this, here.

How come the email from Xero with my monthly invoice is not headed "XERO LIMITED"?
Is this an invalid or scam email?
Should I not pay this invoice until they send a valid invoice covering email with the registered company name as the header?Or is sending an email with only the trading name something Xero recognise as being important for company branding?
Breaking things and then saying that fixing them is "not ocurrently on the roadmap" is not a good look for a company that I moved to because they were innovative and small business focussed.

This is my second update on here, but I want to add that we are now having issues with customers not paying their bills initially unless we call them as the our trading name is different from our company name. this is causing more work than necessary in our admin space. I cannot understand how hard it is to just change it back, or create a box to allow us to enter which trading name we want showing on our invoices etc...
Do we all really need to continually comment and here to actually get this added to your roadmap? -

It is very frustrating that the Legal/Trading name appears prominently at the top of the email, in fact it is more prominent than the logo.
This is definitely a problem for branding of our business.
There really should be an option to turn this line of text off or customise it. Its a bit strange because you can customise nearly all the other components of the invoice templates and email except for this line. So why is it not possible to customise this line of text?
Xero Support suggest this is likely due to legal requirements in some jurisdictions that mandate the display of a company's legal name on invoices.
Well that may be the case, but shouldn't that be up to the Xero user to determine that legal requirement and not Xero to force it upon the user? In fact it is not the actual invoice we are talking about it is a heading line contained in the email sent to the customer. So it makes no legal sense that you can edit the actual tax invoice (which would be the legal document) to state what ever business trading name branding you like, but then the Organisation's name on the heading of the email can't be changed.
Scratching my head with this one.
Please Xero lets get this fixed up now, seems like it would be a simple fix to just give the user the control as they have with editing the invoice templates.

This is awful, what's the point of being able to brand invoices and then have to email them them from a different name.
Very unprofessional and not allowing the option to turn it off is purely lazy

Is there any update on when this is going to change? It's the same in NZ as Australia, the trading name is different and it's causing confusion. Surely there's enough customers across the two countries to justify an update?

As current comments have raised in Australia we have a different name for the Legal name vs the Trading name. We require these to be listed as two separate names as for reporting purposes with the ATO but also for the preparation of our financial statements we need the legal name listed. But for the invoices we want the trading name listed. When raising invoices for customers it is now showing the legal name which has caused many issues for our clients. Can Xero please fix this back to what it was BEFORE the change.

In Australia the majority of businesses have a different legal name to a trading name. Our customer know us by our trading name only - it's causing confusion when they receive an invoice/receipt that includes our legal name. Surely this is an easy fix for Xero?

Is there a fix to this issue with legal trading name showing on invoices? We are having the same problem. Customers not paying as they don't recognise the name. They see a trust name and just delete. We are spending so much time chasing up accounts. We just need a tick box to select our business name, thanks Xero.

The real problem is THIS WORKED BEFORE, and then Xero unintentionally broke this functionality. A lot of things in software are hard -- so many possible ripple effects etc. But this one is EASY. Change one line in the email template to just call on the field that it called on before — the same line that was accidentally (I assume) wiped out in an update.

I find it hard to believe that I need a separate subscription for each business under my company. Although your product is generally good for most applications, it falls short in this area.

This is ridiculous, and to say it's not on the current roadmap even? How many complaints are required before Xero listens? There are many many businesses such as XYZ Pty Ltd who operate under a different business name, this is a commercial reality. Just implement a tick box on the email template.

Come on Xero! This has gone on for too long. Please fix it.
You obviously do not care about your customers needs.
Why has this taken so long? Is not that hard just remove it.

Is there any update on this? I have recently changed from QB to Xero and did not encounter this problem in QB. Sort it out Xero – please.

We are having a similar problem with the email template, and associated legal name and trading name. In fact, it's confusing customers to the extent that some don't recognise the organisation and they are not paying. We MUST be able to turn on/off the legal name. In my instance, I want to turn the legal name off (not show it).
We are a company, with two brands in Xero. It has always worked to use one email template and customised invoice for one brand, and then same for the other brand. However, now Xero has made a change, whereby the Legal name goes to both brands. All this does is create confusion for our clients. This is NOT satisfactory. I should have a choice of "trading names", and be able to select which trading name I use for the brand I am emailing from. Please fix this Xero tech people!

It would be great if this is an option. The same ABN can have multiple business which can also be found under ABN Look up. Tis causes confusion when receiving an invoivce from one entity with a different logo and business name. Thanks

Why is this on the roadmap yet? It was raised early 2024 and yet still not relevant uptake into the roadmap.
As others have mentioned, it causes confusion and being paid is so important to business cash flow. Why can't this be fixed? or at least a short term workaround be available. Please update us asap.

Please implement this ability. Its causing confusion with clients. They things they're being attacked with a phishing scam.
The ability to make a global change so ALL communication comes from a single company name is is important.
