Expenses - Sort by Expense Date, not Created Date
Xero expenses now seems to be showing the date created in the list of expenses to be approved, rather than the date of the purchase. That makes processing much more difficult. I think that has changed in a recent update. Please can that change be reversed?
Hi team, appreciate your feedback here. To confirm we did modernise the expenses list toward the end of 2025, which included adding more sort options to the All tab.
You can now sort expenses by Created Date, Spent Date, Edited Date, Purchaser, and Claim Status, plus you can easily reverse the order.
Additionally we have reduced the spacing of the list view to make it more compact.

Also, compared to the classic expenses interface, everything in the UI is huge and spaced out. It's just as bad as when the released the 'new' bank rec screens. Eventually they added a 'compact' view which enabled you to see a similar amount of info on the screen as before and they need to do the same here.
Everyone has a zoom feature on their browser, so why do Xero insist in making everything so huge - it's not helpful at all when you're dealing with financial data. -

I totally agree that the new change significantly slows down our workflow. Previously, the “Spent on” label allowed us to quickly identify whether a receipt from the same vendor on a particular date had already been submitted. With “Created on,” we now have to open each expense individually to verify the dates. This process is time-consuming, inefficient, and increases the risk of duplicate entries.
