Feedback on Onboarding Process and Superannuation Selection
Hi Xero Team,
I wanted to share my feedback regarding the recent onboarding options you've made available in the software. Overall, I'm quite happy with the new onboarding process.
However, a few issues have been occurring consistently over recent weeks that are now affecting multiple clients.
One notable flaw is that employees entering their own superannuation details often don’t understand what they should be selecting. We’ve had multiple instances where employees have accidentally selected self-managed super funds. As a result, when we process the super for that week—since we don’t handle payroll or add information for these clients—the entire batch payment fails due to the incorrect SMSF details entered during onboarding. It would be extremely helpful if the system could allow the rest of the batch to proceed even when one employee’s super fund is incorrect.
Since the update with the onboarding and the self-managed super issue, clients are now unable to claim their tax discount for paying their super on time. This is creating unnecessary delays and financial disadvantages for them.
Now that super must be paid at the same time payroll is processed, how are clients supposed to pay their super on time if these issues continue to occur?
The current setup makes it impossible for them to meet their obligations when one employee’s onboarding error stops the entire batch.
Additionally, when employees onboard themselves, the history currently shows the name of the person who initially added the information rather than clearly indicating that it was a self-onboarding event.
The only way to identify a self-onboarded employee is by checking the notes section. It would be much more intuitive if the history clearly reflected that it was an onboarding action, consistent with how other user activities are recorded.
After reviewing the client’s employee profile, I’ve found that the employee has entered their bank details as a self‑managed superannuation fund. This is a significant flaw in the system, and it raises the question of whether employees should even be able to enter SMSF details themselves.
