AU Payroll - Set up birthday and apprenticeship anniversaries reminders in Xero Payroll
Could we include a notification when a staff member has a birthday? This has multiple benefits including allowing us to check if their award salary or benefits need to change and also be able to congratulate them on their birthday. Surely it wouldn't be a huge change to make but would be a unique and helpful change for many SME as I currently need to create a new Google calendar for staff birthdays, creating additional work especially when we have 50+ staff and low retention in hospitality. Thank you.
224 votesHi everyone, thanks for your feedback and votes on adding birthday notifications to Australian payroll - we understand how this could help with team celebrations and managing age-based award rate compliance.
After reviewing with our product team, this feature isn't currently on our roadmap, and we'll update the status to 'Not in Pipeline'. Right now, setting up an external calendar could help you track these important dates.
We appreciate you all taking the time to share your feedback with us, and will continue to watch the traction this idea receives through Votes. If there is any change, we will share an update here.

AU Payroll - Revert to the "Pay Employees" page after a pay run has been filed
Please automatically revert to the "Pay Employees" page after a payrun has been filed. At the moment after a payrun is filed with the ATO we are taken back to the "Post Payrun" / "File" page. You then have to click on "Close" to be taken to the "Pay Employees" page. Why the extra step?
4 votesHi there, we appreciate you raised this a little while ago. This isn't something we have plans for in the near term.
Not getting a lot of support from other members we’ll soon remove this from Product ideas. If it’s still highly valuable to you, welcome to start it again and see if it gets renewed interest.

Global Pay Run - Create Spend Money transactions
When posting a pay run, Xero should automatically create spend money transactions with all relevant details and links to the pay run.
Currently, this is done manually by creating spend money transactions for each transaction and there is no link to the payslip.
This will save a lot of time in reconciling a pay run and improve the connectivity within Xero.
4 votesHi community, you might've heard that we’re making changes to Global Pay Run to help you manage your payroll more effectively;
- From 23 July 2025 Global Pay Run will become read-only. You'll still be able to see all your past payroll information, however you will not be able to process any new pay runs after this date.
- Global Pay run will be retired after April 2026, at which point you'll no longer be able to access pay run.
Considering that we'll retire this feature we want to front-foot that we have no plans (as requested in this idea) to develop Global Pay Run.
If you're in AU, UK or NZ there's our Xero Payroll product that's been specifically tailored to your regions unique requirements. Find out more about the pricing plans this is available through on xero.com, or connect with specialists if you need a hand. Alternatively,…

AU Payroll - Show leave balances on payslip in days and hours
Show leave balances on payslip in days and hours and not just hours. Easier for staff to understand their leave balances in days than only in hours.
219 votesHey everyone, thanks for all your feedback on displaying leave balances in days on payslips. We recognise that many of you are keen to see this feature.
Our product team has reviewed this suggestion. While we understand the value it'd bring, it isn't on our foreseeable roadmap. As a result, we're updating the status of this idea to 'Not in Pipeline'.
We're keeping this idea open for votes to help us gauge its popularity when we next review our payroll priorities. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us.🙂

AU Payroll - Allocate Paid Parental Leave pay items to a liability account
Currently the PPL pay item can only be allocated to an expense account.
This is not in line with the Australian Accounting Standard.
Can Xero update the ability to allocate to a liability account, please?

AU Payroll - Remove past employees from drop-down menu in payroll reports
It would be great to be able to remove past employees from the drop-down menus when generating Payroll reports. This would be particularly helpful for businesses who employ a lot of staff members, especially if there's a high churn rate.

Global Pay Run - Ability to select payable account for Deductions, Taxes and Post-tax Deductions pay types
The feature request is to allow the defining of current liability accounts for pay items with pay types set to Deductions, Payroll Taxes, and Post-tax Deductions. This will enable the tracking of payroll source deductions and taxes necessary for remittance reports to the tax authority (such as EI, CPP and income taxes for T4 and T4 summary completion in Canada).
There are two ways I believe Xero developers could achieve this goal.
Below is an explanation of what currently happens during pay runs:
For pay items with a pay type set to Wages, Allowances, or Non-taxable Allowances, the journal entry…

AU Payroll - Provisions for Annual and Long Service Leave
We need to know how much to provide for on the balance sheet for annual leave and long service leave each month and track these for our financial statements. All the information is available via Xero payroll (leave balances and pay rates for each employee as well as leave accrued and leave taken) but in order to account for this correctly we are expected to export reports and do the calculations ourselves. And we need to maintain external files to reconcile this to each month.
If Xero is offering a payroll and leave tracking function it should ensure the accounting…89 votesHi everyone, thanks for your feedback on automating leave provisions. Currently Xero does not automatically include leave liabilities on the Balance Sheet. Some of you have mentioned workarounds such as reviewing the Leave Balances Report and creating Manual Journals to include the liability in your reporting.
While we’re dedicated to streamlining payroll calculations, our product team confirmed this specific idea isn't on our foreseeable roadmap. We’ll be updating the status to Not in pipeline. The idea will remain open for votes so we can continue to monitor community interest.

AU Payroll - Include PAYG payment in Payroll batch files
I look after a business that has been advised by the ATO that their PAYG has cycle has changed & they must remit the PAYG tax to ATO within 7 days of each payrun. This means we currently have to make a manual payment for PAYG to the ATO each week, more if there there happens to be an extra pay run for some reason. Payroll software we use for other clients in the same sitiatuon has the functionality to include the PAYG payment with the ABA file for the payrun, which means everyting is automated. It would be great…

AU Payroll | Superannuation - Set up auto payment with a credit card
Have automatic superannuation payments be able to be paid via credit card, through xero. Currently there seems to only be the ability to make automatic payment via direct debit but it would be good if it could be made by a credit card.
97 votesHi everyone, we appreciate and understand the desire to use a credit card for Auto Super payments.
We've looked into the possibility of introducing this feature. However, Australian regulations currently do not support credit cards as a payment method for Superannuation. Until these regulations change we’re unable to develop this feature.
For this reason we’ll be changing the status of this idea to Not in pipeline. We’ll continue to monitor regulations in this area and will revisit this idea if the situation changes. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

AU Payroll - Add expire date for Time Off in Lieu
According to different awards Time off in Lieu is suppose to expire in 6 months time if not used. Currently you can only bank and take Time off in Lieu. It would be great if Xero could automatically expire hours not used as this is a common practice in many employee Awards.

AU Payroll - Attach files to leave requests
Hi.
When people put in a personal leave form, can you please add an attachment button, so that a medical certificate can be added.
In Xero Me & Xero.
Thanks65 votesHi everyone, thanks for taking the time to explain how important this functionality is to upload files to leave requests.
We're currently exploring ideas to attach files to employee records, however our product team confirmed that attaching files directly into leave requests is not something we're focusing on at the time. We’ve moved this idea to Not in pipeline.
We know this isn't the update you were hoping for, but we want to be transparent about where things stand. The idea remains open for votes, so we'll continue monitoring community interest and feedback as we plan for the future.

Organisation Settings - Allow seperate branch codes for STP and TPAR
Xero provides for only one ATO Branch code to be recorded for an organisation in Settings / Organisation details. Also, Xero does not require a branch code to be recorded for Single Touch Payroll (STP) which would be resulting in a number of cases where the ATO is contacting clients and practitioners regarding incorrect branch codes for STP and requiring correction of STP filings which is time consuming and complex.
Some businesses have different branch codes for different ATO reporting obligations. For example, a business may have a branch number of 001 for Single Touch Payroll but 003 for Taxable…

AU Payroll - Next employee button on employment information screen
Currently we can search employee's data by using the dropdown arrow and selecting a specific employee. Can we also have the option for an arrow which allows us to simply scroll through each employee's record rather than having to use the dropdown option each time

AU Payroll - Unpaid leave report
When running employee leave transaction reports, it would be good for this report to also include employee unpaid leave, as presently this option is not available. The only way to run an unpaid leave report is to run a leave request report, export and edit as required. We have to submit reports to the ADMS for our apprentice claims, and a report including all leave is required.
104 votesWe really value the contributions and support this idea has received from the community here - Thanks everyone.
While we've evaluated and fully get why you'd like more visibility of your employees unpaid leave, we want to be transparent that atm leave reporting isn't in the roadmap for the near term. You can see some of the recent development for the AU Payroll space on The Long and Short Of It.
For the time being you could add a few filters within the Leave Requests report, and then export to a spreadsheet to gather the unpaid leave data you need.
We know this will be disappointing news, but we really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Though we have updated the status to Not in pipeline members can continue to add votes here and we'll keep tracking the trend for future considerations. Thanks

UK Payroll: Gross to Net Report on draft pay runs
To allow the payroll team to run reports to runs checks on the payroll before submitting the payroll. This would avoid sending numerous automatic FPS reports to HMRC.
59 votesHi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback. We appreciate you explaining how important access to reports on draft pay runs is for your workflows, especially for client approvals and pre-submission checks.
Our product team is currently looking into payroll reporting improvements as part of a wider review, however adding additional reports to draft pay runs is not something that’s on their foreseeable roadmap.
Currently you can download payslips, P32 and Payroll Activity Details/Summary reports from draft pay runs. These provide a breakdown of employee earnings and employer liabilities, which can be used for pre-checks before submitting your pay run to HMRC.
Please continue to support other ideas, as this helps our product teams know what's important to you.

AU Payroll - Include the leave description in Leave Request Report
This would be particularly helpful for employees who take excessive leave, instead of having to go in to the employee's Leave tab to view, or print screening to provide a report for reviewing.

AU Payroll - Choose when Employees have access to payslips in XeroMe
From the moment you post a payrun, and this can be 1 day or 10 days before payment is made, employees have access to their payslips. To pull an ABA from the payrun, you need to post the payrun first. I process payroll for over 30 business's. Part of that process, as I am sure it is for any agent or employee bookkeeper, you generally need to get an approval (even the filing for STP makes you verify that an authorised person has checked it). This approval is an email to the client with the payroll information (including ABA file)…

UK Payroll - Ability to process prior year employment allowance claims through Xero payroll
At the moment this isn't an available feature, and HMRCs basic PAYE tools need to be used. It would be good to see this as an option in Xero.
126 votesHi everyone, thanks for all of your engagement with this idea. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on being able to claim previous year's employment allowances in Xero.
We understand this would save time and provide a more complete payroll solution.
As noted by others in this thread, the current workaround is to process prior year claims using HMRC's Basic PAYE Tools.
We've reviewed our upcoming development roadmap, and at this time building the functionality to process prior year Employment Allowance claims is not in our immediate pipeline.
We will keep this idea under consideration for future development, and should our plans change, we will provide an update here.
