Gibraltar
To whom it may concern, my post is not an idea but rather a request for you to consider extending your UK based XERO product to jurisdictions where UK accounting practices have been adopted and reporting currency is GBP.
I am an AAT qualified accountant of approximately 30 years. I trained at Ernst & Young in Gibraltar then moved to BDO before settling as the accountant at a local Gibraltar private school where I have been for the past 15+ years. We use SAGE and have done for 15+ years to manage the school accounts. Alongside this role I served as a Director of a Gibraltar Trust & Company Management Firm where I have used TAS Books, for over 20 years, to manage some clients of the company and to assist with the companies own accounts. Around 2022 TAS books was no longer supported so a switch to XERO was made. I have been actively using your product to manage the accounts on behalf of the landlord of a small property with six tenanted office suites and two residential apartments. In all my roles I have managed the sales and purchase ledger, the bank movements and prepared the accounts for audit.
As a relatively new user of your product (approximately 2 years) but with 15 – 20 years of experience on other accounting platforms that are all UK based products I am disappointed to learn that we must use your Global product because of our location despite the fact that Gibraltar follows UK standard accounting procedures and practices and is a GBP jurisdiction. The Gibraltar tax system is different to that in the UK. Gibraltar is not currently subject to VAT although post Brexit, Gibraltar, the UK and the EU will imminently sign a treaty. Post treat, one major change in Gibraltar will be the implementation of a locally administered sales tax (similar to VAT in the UK or IVA / TVA in European countries).
I am currently unable to view your UK version of XERO as I am not yet the subscriber. Before I transfer the subscription from the third party professional services provider to the property owning company that I manage I wonder if you could provide me with a link to view the UK based product. I do find the terminology of the global product a bit confusing at times and would like to assess if the UK product fits our needs better. I presume you would extend a link to view your demo product to any new user?
Perhaps your ideas forum is not the best platform for this discussion but having spoken with two of your support team last week I was directed here as they were unable to assist me beyond advising how we go about transferring the subscription. I am happy to discuss further our needs in a more private exchange.
