MTD for ITSA - Submission Confirmation
I note that HMRC does not offer a submission receipt for MTD for ITSA. Could Xero generate a PDF stating that the return has been filed, as other than taking a screenshot we have nothing we are able to send to the client confirming the return is submitted
Thanks for sharing and supporting this idea.
We can see how a formal submission confirmation for MTD for Income Tax would be helpful, especially when you need something more suitable than a screenshot to share with clients as proof a submission has been made.
We’ve moved your idea to Gaining support so other community members can vote and add detail on how they’d use this. That feedback helps our product team better understand the demand and the impact this would have in practice.
If there’s anything specific you’d want included on a confirmation document — for example the filing date, business or taxpayer name, period covered, and submission status — feel free to add that in a comment, as it gives the team more context to review.
We’ll keep you updated here if there’s any change.

Agreed. It is madness this isn’t available because it is essential that we are able to prove to clients that their MTD ITSA returns have been filed. The submission receipt would need to show the client’s name, UTR, quarter number, time and date of submission and confirmation that the return has been filed with HMRC.

Yes, this absolutely crucial not only as proof to HMRC but also to send as proof that we have filed with our clients.
I am unsure as to why this has not been thought of considering every other tax filing within Xero provides a submission receipt?

Submission receipts are available for VAT returns and are currently retained as proof that the return has been submitted on time. These should also therefore be available for MTD for income tax submissions otherwise we have no proof in the event of any dispute with HMRC.
