Chart of Accounts - All Debits as Positive & all Credits as Negative Values
Pls can you consider providing an option to view all Debit balances as positive values and all Credit balances as negative values (in brackets) on the Chart of Accounts as well as accounts on the Dashboard?
That way it's immediately obvious if a balance is owing TO the business or BY the business, without having to first determine if an acc is set up as an asset or a liability on the Chart of Accounts.

Chart of Accounts - Ability to lock individual accounts
The lock date feature is great for preventing back posting as a whole but we would benefit from a lock feature for specific nominal accounts - to prevent colleagues posting to a specific account until dates are unlocked.

Perhaps in the meantime you could look to use the Archive and restore options for an account in your chart of accounts as a way of managing this?

Lock dates - Warning if user enters a date in a prior / locked period
It would be good if there was a warning if an adviser user inadvertently enters a date in a prior accounting period which has been locked. For example year end is 31 Dec 2022 and a current year bill is entered as 17/11/22 instead of 17/11/23

Bank account - Drag & drop option to change order of bank accounts
It would save so much time if there was the ability to drag and drop the bank account order in the bank accounts screen (so it changes the order in the drop down menus). It is very cumbersome clicking the bank accounts up one step at a time especially when you have over 30 bank accounts!

Chart of Accounts: Ability to merge accounts
I would like to be able to merge accounts (of the same type, ie expenses) to one account when there was two or more of the same account created.
Example: Say you've converted from another accounting system, and there were sub-accounts that are all the same account - that you want to merge into one account. To be able to merge the accounts - without doing a Find and recode.
Or, the client opened another expense account for something, and one already existed... to be able to merge the two would be a quicker solution instead of find and recode.
63 votesHi everyone, appreciate your feedback on merging chart of accounts. We understand how this could be useful for tidying up accounts, especially after system conversions or when duplicate accounts appear.
While there’s no merge function right now, there are a couple of options that might help:
- You can use Find & Recode (available to users with the Adviser role) to move transactions from one account to another before archiving the accounts. We know this won’t suit every situation, as it requires unlocking periods.
- In financial reports, if you have several related accounts, you can edit the layout to group them for easier review and analysis.
After reviewing this idea, the product team has noted this is Not in pipeline, meaning it’s not something we’re planning in the near term. The idea will stay open for votes, and we’ll continue keeping an eye on the level of interest here.

Chart of Account - Ability to change bank a different account type
Ability to change a bank account to a different account type. e.g. A bank account that should be an equity type was added as a bank. To resolve this requires adding a new equity account type, transfer the bank account balance and archiving the old account. These could be avoided if we are able to change the account type in the COA.

Find & Recode - Ability to change multiple accounts at once
It would be great if we could have an option to use find & recode to change to several accounts at the same time (similar to cash coding), rather than having to use the function over again each time. For example, if a client codes many transactions to general expenses, it would be useful to have a single screen where you can change the coding, with a column for "Current Account" and a second column for "New Account".

Chart of accounts | Add Opening & Closing Stock to default COA
The chart of accounts should really have opening stock, closing stock and dividends as these are items that are usually needed, or perhaps some codes should be blank and we can amend them to our clients needs. The Chart of accounts are currently very basic and when adding a new code it should give you the available codes under each section i.e. for direct costs give an indication of which 300 code is available and where it should be rather than us having to guess.

Chart of Accounts - Ability to remap accounts in bulk
I would like to be able to have a remapping feature (similar to find and recode) but on a bulk stage. It is common that a business operation changes and the previous COA is no longer fit for purpose and updates are needed.
This can be done by having a feature that presents the COA with a current a proposed column. The proposed is automatically mapped to the current if no answer is added. In the proposed there is a drop down item that allows you to remap all historical transactions to a different account or remap.

General Ledger - Ability to consolidate depreciation per asset category
Consolidate Depreciation posted to GL per asset category - currently my deprecation is reflecting per asset in the GL expense account. The Asset Register and Depreciation Schedule already serve the purpose of the per line item amount and basis for a reconciliation. Duplicating the detail adds a large amount of data into my GL ,especially when the asset base starts to grow. Please can it rather be consolidated in the GL per asset category per month ?

Chart of Accounts - Ability to set a default tax rate for new accounts
Be able to set an automatic default tax rate when new sales or expense accounts are created. In our country, the sales tax rate changed, and by default when I create a new account, it gives the old tax rate. Unless I change the Default tax rate for this specific new account to the current tax rate, I will be given the old tax rate by default. This has given us accounting problems that are sometimes hard to trace when one doesn't change the tax rate manually each time a new account is created.

Chart of accounts - Default to latest transactions first
From Chart of Accounts, click on an amount in the YTD column. The account loads with the transactions in date order oldest to newest. Please reverse this (or create an option) for the transactions to load with the latest transactions first by default.

Chart of Accounts - Export Chart of Accounts with current & last financial year balances including zero balances
It could be useful to export the chart of accounts with current and last financial year balances including zero balances to see which account codes are not in use. Helping to simplify chart of accounts.
3 votesHi team, we don't have any plans for developing a export directly from Chart of Accounts with current and last financial year balances.
However, you may find you can get what you need by running the General Ledger Summary report, and including the option to show Opening and closing balances along with Net movement so you can see accounts that have had movement in the period versus those that haven't.

Chart of Accounts: Disable Reconciliation to Specific Accounts
When users are reconciling quite often two mistakes are made frequently:
- Reconciling wages payable incorrectly to Wages and salaries (expense)
- Reconciling super payable incorrectly to Superannuation (expense)
It would be great to have a checkbox similar to "Enable Payments" that says "Do not allow reconciliation to this account" so that when people search for wages/superannuation they can't get shown the incorrect option.

Chart of Accounts - Corporation tax account type to show in taxation section
Please can you add an additional account under expense type in the chart of accounts for corporation tax?
One which will automatically post to the profit & loss in between 'Profit on Ordinary Activities Before Taxation' and 'Profit after Taxation'.
The default setting of overhead and having it in with bank fees etc is frustrating.31 votes -

Chart of Accounts: Standard Canadian numbering
I have noticed that automatic numbering of accounts is different that what is general used in Canada. There should be a very clear option when starting a new Xero account to select Canadian numbering and an option to change the numbering to Canadian. For Example, in Canada, Assets start with 1, Liabilities start with 2, Equity start with 3, Revenue start with 4, Cost of Sales start with 5, Expenses start with 6,etc... I have a client who went ahead and started using Xero and it set up the accounts wrong and some accounts you cannot change the numbering to…
