Cash Coding - Improve sorting and sort logic
Improve the sorting functionality within the Cash Coding screen to sort by Account. When I review the transactions (esp ones that have rules) it's difficult to assess if they've been categorized correctly and might need changes.
Additional ask would be to improve the sort logic that already exists. When you sort by Description it should show A-Z and then blanks at the bottom, or Z-A with blanks at the start. But you can see in the screenshot it's sorted by Description but one transaction is floating in the middle of blanks...why?
24 votesHi everyone! thank you so much for taking the time to share your idea with us! We really appreciate you flagging that the sorting function on cash coding isn't quite sorting the blanks first, but instead is just going straight from ascending to descending by date (or vice versa). We are moving this idea over now so it can gather more support from the rest of the community. Please feel free to share it with any of your peers who would also love to see this feature implemented.
We'll be keeping a close eye on this space in the meantime. Thanks again for your valuable input.

General Ledger - Account reconciliation function
For accounts where transactions are posted and then additional transactions clear those transactions it would be great to have a reconciliation feature where these can be matched off (only when they net to zero). The the remaining unmatched transactions make up the account balance. This would save us hours each month.
37 votesHi, thanks for sharing this idea. This might be useful for situations such as suspense accounts, where entries are intended to net each other off.

Auto Reconcile - Relocate Auto Reconcile toggle to Settings.
This is a big concern when there are business owners who don't understand the consequences of this feature if it is wrong. It is not tested and not trusted as far as I am concerned. It needs to be able to be removed from the reconcile screen.
It needs to be in the settings ONLY, not where it can be accidentally clicked or chosen with good intentions.6 votesHi Fiona and Annie, thanks for raising this here. Appreciate the need to move the feature to an area where it is accessed with intention and not accidentally. We've moved this idea to gain more support from the community and allow other users like yourself to share their thoughts. We'll monitor this space for more traction.

Bank Reconciliation - Suggestion for color-coding spent and received items.
Our clients would like and update to the bank reconciliation screen, color coding spent items and receive items so that they can tell at a quick glance if it was money that has come in and money that has gone out of the bank account.
Having everything as white makes it difficult to do their coding.9 votesThanks for sharing your idea to colour code spent and received items on the bank reconciliation screen.
We've reviewed your request and it's a great one. Now, it's up to the community to show their support.
Be sure to share your idea with colleagues and others who would benefit from this feature so they can add their vote and comments. This will help our product team see just how important this improvement is to our users.

Bank Reconciliation - Change terminology from Reconcile to Categorise or Allocate
Instead of referring to reconcile transactions, it would be better to refer to categorise or allocate transactions.
Bank transactions are categorised - we tell Xero what each transaction is for - answers "What was this for?" However at present this is called Reconcile transactions
Reconciling an Account - is matching the above transactions to the bank's records (statement) - checking that every transaction in Xero matches what actually happened in the bank account and the end balance matches.
The terminology seems to confuse some and they think by categorising/allocating a transaction they have reconciled the account.
13 votesThanks for your feedback and for pointing out how the term "Reconcile" can be confusing—especially for those new to Xero or bookkeeping.
We get that using clearer terms like "Categorise" or "Allocate" might feel more intuitive and help reduce confusion when working through bank reconciliation.
Right now, this idea’s open for feedback and support, so feel free to keep voting and sharing how a change like this could help in your day-to-day.

Bank Reconciliation - Show newest transactions first when sorting
It would be ideal when in reconcile bank, under the Account Transactions tab, that the lines are sorted newest to oldest as the first option under each sort category.
Now that we are years into using Xero, it is not necessary to see the old transactions as a first see option.
I typically sort my account transactions by Status as I want to see unreconciled items on the top and directly beneath that is the reconciled but the first line is the very first transaction posted years before. If I am trying to find a double entry in account transactions…

Bank Rules - Option for prepayments
There are often periodic top up payments for accounts (e.g. Tolls) and a periodic statement provided after the fact.
It would be useful to be able to set up a bank rule to apply these and reconcile the prepayments as the statements come in.

Reconcile period - Ability to attach files
Being able to attach files to a reconcile period. This would be useful to easily reference supporting documents like the statement the period has been reconciled off.

Bank | Reconcile period - Ability to delete draft period
Thanks for adding this feature. I'm trying it and I noticed that if you copy and paste a value with a $ in it, it will not paste properly. Sometimes when you copy paste opening or closing balances from PDF it copies including the dollar sign.
Please allow to paste the value with the $ in it.
Also, there doesnt seem to be any way of deleting a draft period. Please consider adding a small garbage bin icon in the period list and inside the period.
Thanks!
20 votesHi community, we appreciate the support this idea is starting to gain. Our product teams are considering this idea among other improvements as they plan their roadmap and I'll update here if there's progress.
For the time being, you can change the dates to essentially reset this to the period you want to reconcile.
To open the period in an editable state from the 'All periods' list:
- Select the "Continue" button on a draft period, or
- Select "Edit" on a locked period, then "Continue" in the modal to unlock it
From there select the 'Edit date range' button in the top right hand side and change the dates to the period you want to work on. You can also click into the "Opening statement balance" and "Closing statement balance" fields to update these.

Bank Reconciliation - Copy transfer transaction
I would like to be able to copy a Transfer transaction.
When viewing a transaction on the "Transaction: Spend Money" screen, the "Options" menu includes a "Copy" function. However, when viewing a transaction on the "Transaction: Transfer" screen, the "Options" menu does not have the "Copy" function. Please add the "Copy" function in the "Options" menu on the "Transaction: Transfer" screen.
5 votesHi Gregory, thanks for raising an idea in the forums here. To try get a better understanding of your workflow, is there a reason you would generally want to create the Transfer transactions prior to reconciling in your bank account?

Bank Rules - Increase the maximum number of conditions per rule
There's currently a max number of conditions that can be added to one bank rule of, I think, 16.
This is very limiting, particularly for some of our rules. For example:
A bank rule that adds location tracking data, for example, EU, UK, USA, Rest of the World, based on the payment card country code. There are more codes than I can list in the conditions for some of the rules.
A bank rule that adds location tracking data, but is based on the customer's email address because the payment card country code isn't pulled through for this particular type…

Bank rules - Improve view & scroll
It would be really helpful if the way the list of bank rules is displayed, when selecting them in the cash coding screen, was improved and made more user friendly.
Often I have to manually apply bank rules (due to other bank rule limitations). We have a lot, so this means scrolling through the list each time.
The arrow to display the whole list is tiny, requiring precise hovering to select it, and each click only moves the list at once.
They could be displayed in a better way, at least in columns, and more shown at once.

Bank Reconciliation - Option to Edit rule from the Reconcile screen
Add a current transaction to an existing back rule with one-click!
This is a no brainer. Instead of going bank to rules to add another condition, we should be able to click - options: add to bank rule. End of story!4 votesThanks for your idea. This isn't something we have plans of ATM but we'll start to get a sense of others that'd like to see this from your idea here.

Spend Money - Prefill last entered transaction
For Spend Money, to help speed up entry:
Prefill the last entry for that Contact. Most venders (e.g. "Uber") will be the same expense type over and over. Having the 1st item prefill from the last entry will save time.
2 votesThanks for the extra detail, Sandy. We don't have any direct plans around this atm, however we're working on automated bank reconciliation which should help cut down the manual entry of reconciliations for spend money transactions overtime.
There is also Bank rules that can pick on particulars of your statement lines to help with reconciling - However, it sounds like you're manually creating these transactions before they're reconciled?

Reconciliation - menu to jump to next account to reconcile
When in a bank account and want to reconcile another bank bank account, it would be really handy from the drop down where we can choose the next bank account to go to, if the number of unreconciled items could also be visible within next to the name of the bank account.
This stops going back to the homepage to see which account to go into next to reconcile.

Bank Reconciliation - Custom templates/defaults for reconciliation adjustments
It would be so time-saving to allow us to create default shortcut options for the reconciliation adjustment instead of only being able to choose "Bank Fee" or "Minor Adjustment". My "Bank Fee" is always the same information for all field (except for the amount), so why can't I just select a button that I can name something like "MY Bank Fee Default" and it fills in the fields automatically and takes me directly to the amount field?! This would save people HOURS of time every month when reconciling.
2 votesHi there,
Thank you for this suggestion!
I’ve assessed your idea and moved it to Gaining Support. Being able to create custom adjustment shortcuts would be a massive win for efficiency, especially for practices or businesses dealing with high volumes of bank transactions.
I've also updated the title to Bank Reconciliation - Custom templates/defaults for reconciliation adjustments to help others with the same pain point find and support this.
A quick tip for now: If your bank fees always come from the same bank account or have a consistent description on your bank statement, you might be able to automate this entirely using Bank Rules.
By setting up a "Spend Money" bank rule, Xero can automatically suggest the account, description, and tax rate the moment the bank statement line hits your screen, meaning you wouldn't even need to click the Adjustment button!
We’ll keep you posted on any…

Bank Account - Add 'Reconciled By' column and filter to Reconciled Transactions
I'm just exploring the new "Reconciled Transactions" page and was just thinking how great it would be if, in addition to the "Method" column, there was something like a "Reconciler" column which would show which user reconciled the transaction. This would also be great as a you only want to review the transactions reconciled by a particular user, e.g., the client as an accountant or the owner of the file might like to review a bookkeeper's reconciling. Or even just to see who is the predominant reconciler would make this feature extremely helpful.

Bank Rec | Adjustments - Use Tab key to confirm selection instead of Enter
As Xero started to update existing modules, the "new" modules, took on this idiotic philosophy/logic that users should need to click Enter before clicking Tab.
Previously, I could type an account name (or part of one), use up/down arrows to highlight the account in the list, then click Tab to confirm the selection and move to the next field.
This is (fortunately) still the case in the Create transaction screen.
This functionality was removed from New Invoicing.. but fortunately, it was eventually returned.
This functionality has been removed from Adjustments > Bank Fee function.
It's annoying as ****. Just fix…

Cash coding - Floating headers in cash coding screen
Hi All,
On cash coding screen, it would be great if there was an option to freeze the heading panels so you dont have to keep scrolling up if you have millions of lines to code. Eg: to uncheck all
Thank you so much.
