Investing in AI
I think the time has come to invest in AI, as a accounting software leader (Xero). Many people invest their money in AI software, like accountants, to do better / more accurate and faster budgets, forecasting (cash/accrual) mixed with different scenario's, transaction reconciliations and presentations of data/information and graphs. This usually in excel; outside the accounting software, where mistakes are likely to happen. I am not in IT, or software development/integrations, so I do not have an idea what this type of investment would cost, but my gut feeling is it would be worth it.
2 votesLike your forward thinking, Johan.
As Freya mentioned there is some AI going on in Xero already with the way Xero makes suggestions to help you reconcile your bank account.
We recently shared some insights with our customers on our approach to generative AI with Xero and you can read more about this on our blog.
Later this year you'll see Just ask Xero (JAX) be introduced and I'll round back to share once this is available.

New Invoicing - Reduce number of steps and clicks
New invoicing has introduced more clicks, taps, steps at almost every level.
Please remove the added friction as it increases processing time. The "new invoicing" messages are full of comments regarding where these pressure points have been added.
We are paid subscribers, and beta testing/seeking feedback is wonderful, but being forced onto an inferior model is.. suboptimal.259 votesHi community, thank you for your continued engagement with us on how we can improve new invoicing for you here.
As we keep developing the experience any actions that include steps and clicks are front of mind for the team. Some more updates that help reduce steps since my last post;
- You can now tab to select a highlighted contact and move through to the next field - related idea
- Create a new repeating template from a draft invoice - related idea
Further to this our team are currently doing some work and have designs for a new layout that they'd like to get feedback on. We'd like to open this to our community and have created a form that you can sign up through ✍️- If you'd like to be involved please add your details and the team will be in touch.
Once the team's work has concluded,…

New Invoicing - Reduce the amount of empty space on screen
Have less white space on new invoicing as it fills screen. The notes section which is in contacts 4000 chars make visable and editable on the new invoice page so we can see it whilst creating and invoice. We dont then have to keep jumping from one page to the next.
152 votesHi community, following on from my recent update we have a design for a new layout and we'd really like to get your feedback on this to help the team's work on improving the experience in new invoicing. They are also looking to interview a small pool of users for their research, too.
If you'd like to be involved, please use the form here ✍️to add your details and the team will be in touch.
We appreciate all your feedback on how we can make things better for you when working in Xero. I'll come back to share any outcomes with you all surrounding this.

New Invoicing - Make the History & Notes the same as in Classic Invoicing
Please leave the history of an invoice EXACTLY as it was in the classic invoicing.
The new invoicing doesn't show the invoice that it was copied from or copied to and this is very important as a trail.
I really don't understand why so many important features from the classic invoicing has been omitted.
OR
let your customers continue using the classic invoicing as they like
277 votesHi community, we've released our first update to history and notes of new invoicing, where you can now view more detail of changes such as where an issue or due date has been altered or the amount of your invoice is changed. There's more improvements for this space coming soon and I'll keep you up to date with these, here.

Hubdoc - Multi-page PDF
Hubdoc - Would like a second email address to be able to upload PDF with multiple pages for multi page split.
2 votesHi team, this is something we're working on at present. When available you'll be able to upload up to 10 documents at a time. 🎉
I'll come back to share once it's live.

Inventory - Bulk update Sales tax code field
Sales tax code for Products & Services SKUs "Item Name"
When you export the list of items from Products & Services you get a CSV with the fields:
ItemCode ItemName SalesUnitPrice SalesAccount SalesTaxRate InventoryAssetAccount CostOfGoodsSoldAccountHowever, there is no field for "Sales tax code" which is used when you're leveraging AutoTax lookup integration with Avalara. Therefore, as we're converting to using AutoTax, we have ~700 SKUs here that we have to manually update ONE BY ONE!!!!
This is insane. Why is this field not able to be edited in bulk like every other field?
4 votesHi team, thanks for your input here. This is something our team are working on at present, and will be coming soon. I'll shift to working on it and return to let you know once it's live 😊

Xero Support - Support chat feature
There should be a support chat feature, especially for new users. Drilling through support topics and forums is cumbersome for simple questions.
15 votesHi everyone, we wanted to let you know about a new update to the navigation help menu that's in the process of rolling out in Xero.
We're introducing an AI generated answer field to the content search results in the existing help box within Xero blue, HQ and Xero Me. When you search or ask a question in this box you'll receive an AI generated answer based on Xero Central support content that's displayed above the regular search results.
Introducing generative AI to our navigation help menu will help to improve the results returned by the search function, saving you time especially if you're just getting started in Xero, or doing a task you don't do often.
We aim to have this to all users over the next week, and I'll round back to confirm when available to 100%.

Email Templates - Rich text editor format
Please change the editor in the email copy, when sending an email & creating an email template, to a rich text editor. It would be useful to be able to bold/highlight particular lines especially when invoices are late & reminders are being sent

GST return - Include number of transactions in the GST Audit report
Item Count for Purchases , Income and No GST Transaction seperately and then total on end as it Count it as item number already.
1 voteThanks for sharing with us here, Guramit. Atm, we're in the process of rolling out a new and improved New Zealand GST experience. Once available you'll find the Transactions tab shows the number of transactions in each section displayed on screen. We'll move your idea into working on it and I'll return to confirm once it's out for all users. 😁

NZ Payroll - Option to show Holiday Pay accrual as hour value
Payroll>Employees>Leave currently has leave balances in days and dollar values, this makes it difficult to determine what the amount should be either way.
As the dollar amount may change due to pay rises or an average applied as per statutory legislation, it would be better if all fields were hours based values. This would make it consistent and easier as a consumer to use.
As a user, I should not have to be trying to calculate what the values should be and if something doesn't appear to be right, I should not need to contact Xero to find out how…46 votesHi everyone, we've added you to this idea that we split away from the original one you voted for (AU & UK Payroll - Show leave balances on payslip in days and hours) as we have an exciting update applicable to NZ Payroll only.
Our product team has started some work around enabling Xero customers the ability to show Annual Leave in Weeks and FBAPS in Days👩💻. While in early stages at present we'll keep you updated on progress for this here!

(UK) Year End date change to bases period reforms
With the new basis period changes coming into effect, some clients may want to change their year-end from 30.09 to 31.03. Currently changing the year-end in Xero will cause previous opening balances to change and most likely mean any working papers produced in Xero will no longer match the accounts.
It would be a useful tool to have something whereby a previous accounting period end could be locked so a new year-end could be chosen without messing up the old year-end balances.
60 votesHi everyone, as mentioned earlier our team have been making change across Xero to align with the UK basis period reforms. We recently made a change to Financial settings so you can add start and end dates to different periods. This change impacts multiple areas of Xero. As a reminder from our last post -
Fixed assets will draw on this information, to prevent any loss of historic information when your year end changes. Everything will automatically be calculated for you based on the period start and end dates you set in Financial Settings.
The same story will apply in Reporting. All historic reports will be protected. And you’ll have accurate comparison periods even across varied financial years.
In Xero Tax, you’ll be able to enter transitional profit, and track this across five years.
In the meantime, once your practice is comfortable with the implications of basis period reform, it’s…

UK Payroll | Reset holiday accrual on anniversary date
HOLIDAY ACCRUAL SHOULDN'T TAKE A MONTH TO RESET
We have holiday entitlement to reset on the 1st of April each year, however, the holidays don't reset until the 1st of May and after April's pay run.
Please vote for all holiday balances to reset on the actual anniversary date.41 votesHi everyone, a little way on from my last update here and I'm pleased to return with good news. We have a team that's doing some work that'll enable the ability to update an employees holiday leave on their anniversary date.
We expect this to be released in a few months time, and I'll swing back to confirm once released in payroll for the UK. 😁 -
Bank Reconciliation - Remove imported statement balance
Bank Reconciliation
Remove the Imported Statement Balance as at best it does not work at all and at worst it imports the wrong value, which is very upsetting for clients.
7 votesHi team, great to get your feedback and support through the idea here.
We appreciate the 'Imported statement balance' is not always the most useful for our customers when reviewing their bank accounts.
We've started some work around this field and enabling Xero customers to overwrite an imported statement balance. While in early stages at present we'll keep you updated on progress for this here.

Xero Mobile app - Ability to Delete/void invoices
Need to be able to void/delete invoices on mobile app. (Not have to do it via xero on computer)
VERY frustrating for clients who invoice daily from their phone and need to void or delete an invoice.9 votesHi team, thanks for sharing where improvements in Xero's mobile app could help the way you work.
While it's currently possible to delete draft invoices through the Xero mobile app, our product team are currently developing the ability to also Void awaiting payment invoices from the app. I'll round back to share when this is live for you all 😊

Invoicing | History - Show detail of action made
With the currect feature History and note report we are able to see which invoice for example has been edited - change name of invoice - reconciled etc. However we would like to have a more detailed view, for example if an invoice is booked in USD and someone will change the currency in EUR we are not able to see this change , we can see only that the invoice is edited by X person but we are not able to see the change. How can we have this feature?
16 votesHi everyone, our product team have released their first update to the history and notes of new invoicing where you can now see more detail of the change that's been made such as where an issue or due date has been edited or the amount of the invoice has changed.
We have more improvements planned for new invoicing history and notes and I'll share more as this comes, here.

NZ GST: Widen the GST Audit report
Widen the display of the GST Audit report. When viewing the GST return I also check the GST audit report. When viewing the GST audit report I cannot see the date on the left side without scrolling to the bottom and using the scroll bar to move the report from side to side. It will not show all the columns at once.
6 votesHey team, as you may have seen in our communications - We're releasing a new and improved New Zealand GST experience.
As part of the new experience there is no longer a GST audit report, instead there is the transactions tab where you'll have options to toggle different columns on or off.Along with this, you'll find the page auto scales to fit your information in one screen, meaning there'll be no need for scrolling😊 - This is currently being released to a small portion of customers to test the user experience before releasing it more broadly. I'll return to confirm once it's available to all.

Fixed Assets - Automatically update depreciation start date when changing year end dates
It would be great if Xero dealt with changing balance dates more efficiently. If the balance date changes it should be able to automatically calculate the opening book value, then calculate the depreciation for the new financial year end as per usual. Currently its very manual and time consuming as it reverses all journals posted since you started using Xeros fixed asset feature. Very odd and very frustrating!
12 votesHi everyone, as mentioned earlier our team have been making change across Xero to enable user to change their year end in their Xero organisation. We recently made a change to Financial settings so you can add start and end dates to different periods. Currently this is only available to users with the UK version of Xero however we are looking at rolling this out across all versions over the coming months.
It's also worth noting that atm it's only possible to set a longer transitional period (12+ months). Our team are working on shorter periods (<12 months) which we'll be providing in the near future.
This change impacts multiple areas of Xero. As a reminder from our last post -
Fixed assets will draw on this information, to prevent any loss of historic information when your year end changes. Everything will automatically be calculated for you based on the…

New invoicing | History & Notes - Show email sent to
Can the new invoicing template show the address like the old templates used? Now if you go into edit the addresses have disappeared and to check if it is correct you have to click on the contact and fix it in a new tab.
Also the notes section has removed the time stamps and the email address the invoices get sent to. Can the new invoicing have the same notes and history function as the old one.108 votesHey community, just a quick update to let you know the team are currently working on the ability to show the email address that an invoice was sent to, in the History & Notes! We'll pop back to confirm it's been delivered in the next few months 😊
As Kelly mentioned in our last update, viewing the timestamp of history items on an invoice is a separate idea started across here. And, it looks like a separate idea has been raised for the last part of this original idea New invoicing | View contact address. Feel free to add your vote to those ✅ if they're changes you'd like to see.

New Invoicing - Time stamp in History & Notes
In the classic invoicing history, we can see the date and timestamp, this is not available in the new invoicing - see attached screenshots.
We use this time stamp a lot for trouble shooting - like what time or XPM and what time was the invoice approved. This helps if there is an integration problem or double up, or payment query.
75 votesHi community, to keep you updated of progress in this space. Our product team recently released an update so you can view more detail in history such as where an issue or due date has changed or total amounts of the invoice have changed and who these were made by. We have more improvements coming for history and notes in new invoicing and will share more as it's made available, here.

NZ Payroll | Employee - Set up as a 'Casual' employee
It would save a lot of errors if you had an employment type option where once 'casual' was selected as a type, you could only then enter what was needed for casual staff and leave/holiday pay would automatically change accordingly. I have anumber of clients who, when entering new casual staff, inadvertently add hours per day and days per week which then starts the accrual of annual leave and unless they tick the little box under holiday pay, the employee is not paid their 8%.
5 votesHi team, great to get your feedback and support through the idea here. We appreciate these challenges with the current functionality when setting up a casual employee. We’ve started some work around enabling Xero customers to select Employment Types such as casual. While in early stages at present we’ll keep you updated on progress for this here.
