  1. I think the time has come to invest in AI, as a accounting software leader (Xero). Many people invest their money in AI software, like accountants, to do better / more accurate and faster budgets, forecasting (cash/accrual) mixed with different scenario's, transaction reconciliations and presentations of data/information and graphs. This usually in excel; outside the accounting software, where mistakes are likely to happen. I am not in IT, or software development/integrations, so I do not have an idea what this type of investment would cost, but my gut feeling is it would be worth it.

    Like your forward thinking, Johan.

As Freya mentioned there is some AI going on in Xero already with the way Xero makes suggestions to help you reconcile your bank account.

We recently shared some insights with our customers on our approach to generative AI with Xero and you can read more about this on our blog

Later this year you'll see Just ask Xero (JAX) be introduced and I'll round back to share once this is available.

  2. New invoicing has introduced more clicks, taps, steps at almost every level.
Please remove the added friction as it increases processing time.

The "new invoicing" messages are full of comments regarding where these pressure points have been added.
We are paid subscribers, and beta testing/seeking feedback is wonderful, but being forced onto an inferior model is.. suboptimal.

Hi everyone, we assure you that our leadership and those that can make a difference to the new invoicing experience are aware of your comments and all the feedback of how we can improve this space for all our customers.
Product ideas here have been specifically designed so we can ensure we have a channel and are getting our customers feedback to the teams and people to consider, plan and prioritise change to impact and make a positive difference to our users experience in all our products. For example - every week all the feedback (every one of the comments) goes to the new invoicing team and has been read by leadership including our CPTO.

Individual personal details have been removed from commentary in this thread as it goes against part of our Community Guidelines.

There are really important reasons why we must go forward with sunsetting classic invoicing…

  3. Please leave the history of an invoice EXACTLY as it was in the classic invoicing.

The new invoicing doesn't show the invoice that it was copied from or copied to and this is very important as a trail.

I really don't understand why so many important features from the classic invoicing has been omitted.

    OR

let your customers continue using the classic invoicing as they like

Hi community, we've released our first update to history and notes of new invoicing, where you can now view more detail of changes such as where an issue or due date has been altered or the amount of your invoice is changed. There's more improvements for this space coming soon and I'll keep you up to date with these, here.

Thanks for sharing with us here, Guramit. Atm, we're in the process of rolling out a new and improved New Zealand GST experience. Once available you'll find the Transactions tab shows the number of transactions in each section displayed on screen. We'll move your idea into working on it and I'll return to confirm once it's out for all users. 😁

  6. Payroll>Employees>Leave currently has leave balances in days and dollar values, this makes it difficult to determine what the amount should be either way.
As the dollar amount may change due to pay rises or an average applied as per statutory legislation, it would be better if all fields were hours based values. This would make it consistent and easier as a consumer to use.
As a user, I should not have to be trying to calculate what the values should be and if something doesn't appear to be right, I should not need to contact Xero to find out how…

Hi everyone, we've added you to this idea that we split away from the original one you voted for (AU & UK Payroll - Show leave balances on payslip in days and hours) as we have an exciting update applicable to NZ Payroll only.

Our product team has started some work around enabling Xero customers the ability to show Annual Leave in Weeks and FBAPS in Days👩‍💻. While in early stages at present we'll keep you updated on progress for this here!

  7. With the new basis period changes coming into effect, some clients may want to change their year-end from 30.09 to 31.03. Currently changing the year-end in Xero will cause previous opening balances to change and most likely mean any working papers produced in Xero will no longer match the accounts.

It would be a useful tool to have something whereby a previous accounting period end could be locked so a new year-end could be chosen without messing up the old year-end balances.

Hi everyone, as mentioned earlier our team have been making change across Xero to align with the UK basis period reforms. We recently made a change to Financial settings so you can add start and end dates to different periods. This change impacts multiple areas of Xero. As a reminder from our last post -

Fixed assets will draw on this information, to prevent any loss of historic information when your year end changes. Everything will automatically be calculated for you based on the period start and end dates you set in Financial Settings.

The same story will apply in Reporting. All historic reports will be protected. And you’ll have accurate comparison periods even across varied financial years.

In Xero Tax, you’ll be able to enter transitional profit, and track this across five years.

In the meantime, once your practice is comfortable with the implications of basis period reform, it’s…

  8. With in the Invoice Only User - Sales (Quoting & Invoicing) the user can still view all of your suppliers and the amounts you owe them via the contacts tab. If you want to give someone access to raise and sent sales invoices then they shouldn't be able to see all of your suppliers and especially shouldn't be able to see what you owe each of them!

Hi Adele, thanks for raising this with us here. Our team are working on a change to Contacts list for Invoice Only roles. When released this will change the view for users with an Invoice Only role dependent on the level of access.

Invoice Only Draft will no longer see the I Owe and They Owe columns, Invoice Only (Sales) will only see They Owe, and Invoice Only (Purchases) will only see You Owe. This'll also apply to sorting on the page.

I'll round back to confirm once it's been released.

  9. Bank Reconciliation

Remove the Imported Statement Balance as at best it does not work at all and at worst it imports the wrong value, which is very upsetting for clients.

Hi team, great to get your feedback and support through the idea here.

We appreciate the 'Imported statement balance' is not always the most useful for our customers when reviewing their bank accounts.

We've started some work around this field and enabling Xero customers to overwrite an imported statement balance. While in early stages at present we'll keep you updated on progress for this here.

Hi team, thanks for sharing where improvements in Xero's mobile app could help the way you work.

While it's currently possible to delete draft invoices through the Xero mobile app, our product team are currently developing the ability to also Void awaiting payment invoices from the app. I'll round back to share when this is live for you all 😊

  11. With the currect feature History and note report we are able to see which invoice for example has been edited - change name of invoice - reconciled etc. However we would like to have a more detailed view, for example if an invoice is booked in USD and someone will change the currency in EUR we are not able to see this change , we can see only that the invoice is edited by X person but we are not able to see the change. How can we have this feature?

Hi everyone, our product team have released their first update to the history and notes of new invoicing where you can now see more detail of the change that's been made such as where an issue or due date has been edited or the amount of the invoice has changed.

We have more improvements planned for new invoicing history and notes and I'll share more as this comes, here.

  12. Widen the display of the GST Audit report. When viewing the GST return I also check the GST audit report. When viewing the GST audit report I cannot see the date on the left side without scrolling to the bottom and using the scroll bar to move the report from side to side. It will not show all the columns at once.

Hey team, as you may have seen in our communications - We're releasing a new and improved New Zealand GST experience.
As part of the new experience there is no longer a GST audit report, instead there is the transactions tab where you'll have options to toggle different columns on or off.

Along with this, you'll find the page auto scales to fit your information in one screen, meaning there'll be no need for scrolling😊 - This is currently being released to a small portion of customers to test the user experience before releasing it more broadly. I'll return to confirm once it's available to all.

  13. It would be great if Xero dealt with changing balance dates more efficiently. If the balance date changes it should be able to automatically calculate the opening book value, then calculate the depreciation for the new financial year end as per usual. Currently its very manual and time consuming as it reverses all journals posted since you started using Xeros fixed asset feature. Very odd and very frustrating!

Hi everyone, as mentioned earlier our team have been making change across Xero to enable user to change their year end in their Xero organisation. We recently made a change to Financial settings so you can add start and end dates to different periods. Currently this is only available to users with the UK version of Xero however we are looking at rolling this out across all versions over the coming months.

It's also worth noting that atm it's only possible to set a longer transitional period (12+ months). Our team are working on shorter periods (<12 months) which we'll be providing in the near future.

This change impacts multiple areas of Xero. As a reminder from our last post -

  14. Can the new invoicing template show the address like the old templates used? Now if you go into edit the addresses have disappeared and to check if it is correct you have to click on the contact and fix it in a new tab.
Also the notes section has removed the time stamps and the email address the invoices get sent to. Can the new invoicing have the same notes and history function as the old one.

Hey community, just a quick update to let you know the team are currently working on the ability to show the email address that an invoice was sent to, in the History & Notes! We'll pop back to confirm it's been delivered in the next few months 😊

As Kelly mentioned in our last update, viewing the timestamp of history items on an invoice is a separate idea started across here. And, it looks like a separate idea has been raised for the last part of this original idea New invoicing | View contact address. Feel free to add your vote to those ✅ if they're changes you'd like to see.

  15. In the classic invoicing history, we can see the date and timestamp, this is not available in the new invoicing - see attached screenshots.

We use this time stamp a lot for trouble shooting - like what time or XPM and what time was the invoice approved. This helps if there is an integration problem or double up, or payment query.

Hi community, to keep you updated of progress in this space. 16. It would save a lot of errors if you had an employment type option where once 'casual' was selected as a type, you could only then enter what was needed for casual staff and leave/holiday pay would automatically change accordingly. I have anumber of clients who, when entering new casual staff, inadvertently add hours per day and days per week which then starts the accrual of annual leave and unless they tick the little box under holiday pay, the employee is not paid their 8%.

Hi team, great to get your feedback and support through the idea here. We appreciate these challenges with the current functionality when setting up a casual employee. We’ve started some work around enabling Xero customers to select Employment Types such as casual. While in early stages at present we’ll keep you updated on progress for this here.

  17. There is an issue with the new contact edit settings, we cannot add IBAN in account number and swift in routing numberFinancial details. Since we have vendors globally, not everyone have US routing and acct number only. This needs to be fixed since we are relying on the bank details updated in contact

Thanks everyone, we thoroughly appreciate your feedback on changes when adding or editing a contact.

Since the initial release, our team have made an update and you'll find you can now enter IBAN and SWIFT into account number without it throwing errors.

Currently, if you save information into the account number field it'll spread across the bank account prefix and bank account number fields - The thing to note is that this will not impact processing of batch payments and will be one field when exported for batch payments.

We understand it’s not the perfect solution and are looking at further enhancing this - I'll keep you updated here.

  18. UK Payroll: Leave / Sick Days
    Xero payroll nearly always miscalculates sick pay and absence deductions if staff are paid an annual salary for two reasons;
    1) It works on average number of days in a month when month vary in working days every month and recalculates an inaccurate hourly rate from which it deducts absence (sometimes this is in favour of the employee but more commonly isn't) meaning that it often deducts too much from them and has to be manually recalculated.
    2) It does not have the capability to deal with part-timers so if you have someone who…

Hi team, great to get your feedback and support through the idea here. We acknowledge the challenges with the current way we record leave hours and the impact this has on the calculation. Hi team, great to get your feedback and support through the idea here. We appreciate the current task list is not always the most useful for managing projects, especially if they’re long running. We’ve started some work around this and enabling Xero customers to search tasks and sort by Name or Date Created. While in early stages at present we’ll keep you updated on progress for this here.
