AU Payroll - Sort by Surname
To be able to sort Pay Employees by Surname and it holds them in that order instead of refreshing
Hiya community, thanks for your support in this. Totally get why you may want to set the default view to sort by surname in Payroll. Being open, with many of the teams resource working hard to fine tune payroll for STP phase 2 there are no direct plans for developing the option to set a default for sorting of employees atm.
To confirm, right now from your list of employees you can click on the column header to sort ascending or descending alphabetically - So, once on the screen you can click Last name to sort your employees by this column.
We'll update again if there's any change planned.

How can this not be fixed yet. It is the simplest of things to fix! Just do it already please

Totally agree - absolutely absurd that sorting in views and reports is done by first name and not last name
surely this is not that hard too fix
for reports just dont concatinate the first and last names - leave them as seperate fields
come on xero listen to your users!!!! -

Yes I agree, we should be able to adapt the reports to any order we like be it Employee Ref, first name, surname. Should be included as a basic necessity

Xero team, can this request please be re-assessed - the last comment provided was 2 years ago. I cannot agree more with other comments, sorting by surname is a best-practice and industry standard.

Yes you can sort alpha by surname in the list, but save and next takes you to the next person in alpha by first name again. Absurd

This is SO,SO, disappointing. I HATE that Xero does NOT listen to the users. This is a basic request and EVERY accounting package I know, and ALL office systems I know, file by surname by default. Yes, you can re-organise the list by surname but after EACH and EVERY transaction performed you have to RESORT the list - VERY TIME CONSUMING and again another thing that interupts good work-flow. HOW MANY Xero users have to complain about this before there is action or is Xero's priority profit over satisfaction.

Not being able to run reports with first-name then last-name is not good. Every other organisation I deal with uses only last-name, first-name. Please escalate this Xero. This costs me countless hours on clients data as I have to manipulate reports in Excel. We have to enter first names and last names separetely when setting up employees, why aren't they then made available in exactly that form in all reports (separated!) so that we can choose how we want to list the employees.

Sorting employees by surname is a standard practice, please escalate this request Xero. Thanks.

Very surprised that this feature is not available when you can sort and view the employee list that you cannot do the same when you do a payrun.
Can this be escalated as this has been a request from users for a number of years which surely highlights its importance.
It is causing a lot of negative feedback for your system, both for accounts and the payroll. -

The most basic function a system should have. Surely to goodness this needs addressing?!

@Sarah Mulqueen - but dont you love running a report of every payroll item for the month, exporting it to Excel, using Excel's features to find payroll items that are exempt from payroll tax, manually deleting them, and then using Excel's features to add up the figures for the month?
Oh wait ....... isn't that something that an "Accounting" package is meant to do?
Sorry! My bad! -

Extremely disappointed, Xero is meant to be a seamless program, but we can't sort Payroll by Surname which is the most illogical and outdated feature of the program.
A monthly Payroll tax report would be another feature that's required. -

Cannot report by surname, so sort is completely useless.
We have 3 Marys. They seem to report in order of hire date which is so dangerous when transferring data to other reports outside of Xero that are by surname. This is so illogical.

Xero says click this and click that .... hows about xero clicks this and clicks that and just fix this POS problem? OR even better, advise us all on who what the brainiac that came up with the idea of sorting by first name in the beginning, this is the single dumbest thing I've seen in Xero since coming over from another accounting package on july 1.

We would like Payroll to be sorted by Surname, to stop confusion. All other resources are filed by surname. By Xero having first name it creates extra work, to & fro ing.

Hi
Would you please work on function so you can permanently sort employees by surname. It is difficult using first name rather than surname. The above information is useless as keeps reverting to first name. Very out dated.

How does that help when you are running reports that only sort by first name? It is a completely useless feature.
It is such a simple request and yet you are unable to accommodate, how hard can it be?? -

UNBELIEVABLE!!! Obviously the software designers are NOT actually using Xero themselves. i.e. inputting data on a regular basis.
Pretty sure everyone knows you can sort where you mentioned BUT you can't flick through one employee after another - keeps reverting back to the First Name sort. It's so frustrating every time you do a report to export to Xero and then have to insert a column and change the entries to Surname first then delete the original Employee name column and then do a Data sort on the new column to get a working copy that matches every other database etc.
Utterly disappointed in this LACK of support for something that should NEVER had been an issue to begin with. -

This is about the least useful place to sort employees by last name. It is no kind of solution to be able to change the sort order on one screen (and you have to do it every single time you make any minor change or leave the screen). This option doesn't work for reports (results in many extra steps to correct the reports), doesn't functionally work when processing a payroll by using the save & next option and for bank payment reports even sorting by first name would be an improvement (is currently random). Xero is missing many very minor things that users prior to using Xero would not assume would be an issue as nobody else would even contemplate that software programmers would think this was good. It isn't that last name should be set as a default view (having experienced Xero, I would never presume that any flexibility would be added) it should be the main setting for sorting for everything. It is so frustrating that the software does not do this. Xero ignoring ideas, makes me think you have an 'ideas' section for show and to reduce formal complaints.

Very disappointing that Xero have chosen to ignore this request from so many people....
