Invoicing - Add Payment details on invoice screen
When using the new style of invoicing, it is no longer possible to enter a customer payment which having to click on the receive payment option. Using classic invoicing, the fields to enter the payment are present on the invoice screen. The classic invoicing method is much more efficient when entering a large number of customer invoices, so it would be great if these fields could be added to the invoice screen on the new style.

Hey everyone👋 Thanks so much for sharing all your feedback and keeping the conversation going here. We've been following along and considering changes around the process for adding payments in new invoicing.
As we mentioned in our last update, while we won’t be bringing classic invoicing back, we're taking a close look at what made it work so well for you. The ability to quickly enter payment information without leaving the invoice is a key part of that.
To address this, our product team is now working to reintroduce this functionality to the invoice page.
We can’t share a timeline just yet, but we want you to know that your comments have been a vital part of this process. We’ll be sure to post an update here as soon as we have more to share.🙂

Hi Logan,
Thank you for the update.
If Xero developing team could “take a close look at what made it <classic invoicing> work so well for us” BEFORE transitioning to new invoicing, we would not have had all this drama.

Since switching to New Invoicing it seems like none of our feedback has been taken on board, and no improvements have been made as promised!
My main gripe is that you cannot enter an expected payment date as you are adding notes to invoices or bills - have to go back to the ledger each time!

Relocating the payment grid to a pop-up is incredibly inefficient for those processing bulk international payments against clearing accounts, particularly as you can no longer copy exchange rates from within the invoice while processing a manual payment via the pop-up.
Having capacity to free-key the field as a calculator like other fields in Xero would also be beneficial.

We also need to be able to add multiple payments to the one invoice, without having to go back to the invoice repeatedly…. Please 🙏

Please put the payment grid back at the bottom of the invoice screen. Also, please allow us to type in the Date Paid and Account field again. Having to click a button to apply a payment and the now multiple clicks on these fields slows the process. Seriously, why would you change the Account field to a drop down only with a search function after you select/click on it? We used to be able to tab to it, type one or two letters, and tab to the reference field. And, why in the world can't we type in the Date paid field? I can type a date WAY faster than it takes to click-click, and let's hope the payment was a different month or year. Yay, it's January, year-end time, and we have to click to change a month and year for EVERY payment we post for last month. Don't forget to change the year first or you'll have to start over. Ask me how I know. Did a Xero customer suggest these changes or did you just come up with it all on your own? 🤯🤮

And will you finally do something about the freaking slugishness ?
I have to WAIT for XERO at each corner. I mean just taking out a line until the total adjusts it takes ages. Maybe that lag is nothing when you're diddling your thumbs on a mobile device, but when you touch type (as many bookkeepers would do in order to make a buck) that delay is a serious obstacles. Like walking through molasses. -

Unbelievable! Utterly unbelievable!
This is not a new idea. What we're asking for is for a function that was in place, working well, and then inexplicably removed ... to be reinstated.Kelly, you keep telling us that the product team are "engaged" (whatever that means) with our feedback ... but the lack of action implies otherwise.

This should not be considered an "idea" to move to Under Review, but a broken feature that needs immediate repair.

Hi Kelly,
It has been said many times, please stop insulting us with "new ideas" or "ideas". Please stop calling black white. Did you read 1984 by George Orwell? You took away our "arm" and attached it to our "back". Now you are saying that there is good interest to return the arm to its righteous place. Does somebody in Xero (management, marketing, PR, development departments) have courage to admit it?

I also totally agree. It is not as straight forward as the Classic version and takes longer to add payments. Would like the option to revert back to Classic Invoicing but I see that this complaint has been made for a while now with no update?

It was so convenient to add payments on Classic Invoicing. Why is it messy with the new one? really bring a lot of time waste to user and not friendly at all, is it too hard to amend the payment function back to classic ? have no idea what for upgrade to new feature, in other way call downgrade, why team and management will do such push customer out matter?is it here cease soon?

Also, this, but when you add a payment the view resets to invoices waiting for payment, I want to often want to send the invoice by email showing it's 0.00 due, so I have to go back the invoices screen and find it and then email it from, like 6 clicks and navigation. I would be great to have the payment option added and then stay on the invoice to then email it and just a couple of clicks.

Xero don't care now otherwise they would push out the date. Seven years in the making and it's pathetic that it has so many issues that you would expect this when first developing invoicing not supposedly improving it.
Sent it backwards and still charging us for something that doesn't work - least they could do is reduce the subscription prices back to what they were prior to the increase last year given it's not working properly until everything works as it should, but that wouldn't suit them either as then they couldn't offer such huge discounts to new users which no doubt our charges help cover the difference. It would also mean they would have to admit they've stuffed up badly this time round which they wouldn't want to admit to either.
Sick of hearing their ads on TV and the radio as well - I think it's false advertising lol given what they've done over the last couple of years with it, they omit to mention we've increased the amount of time it will take to do things from previously.
New users will have no idea unless they actually look into feedback before moving over - if they did more may decide not to convert from their current one. -

It was so easy to add payments on Classic Invoicing. Why is it harder with the new version? This is so backwards. Our team's efficiency will go down signifcantly.

I've already put this item in too - Xero you NEED to listen to your customers - we hate having extra buttons to click - especially when you've added steps that add no value!

I wrote exactly this months ago! This is critical for us. I feel like Xero have lost their minds.
