New invoicing - View full account name
New Invoicing: Auto adjust the account column width (or wrap text) so that the full account name can be seen when creating an invoice in New Invoicing. Currently users have to click on the account within each line to see the full account name. In Classic invoicing the account box automatically adjusts so that the full account name can be seen.

Appreciate your feedback, everyone. Currently our team are doing some work on improving the line item grid (where you enter details of your invoice) this also involves providing the ability to view the full account name both when editing and viewing the invoice. For now we'll shift this idea to working on it and I'll share more news when this goes live. Thanks

Agree here - i think the price column is much more wide than it needs to be so either a smaller font to fit everything in or an ability to change widths on each column and that preference is remembered each time you create a new invoice - rather than having to adjust each time

Thanks again, Olga.
I was under the impression I was talking to Xero support. Would have been too good to be true. :-)
I appreciate very much your suggestions and insight.
We are at their mercy now. Let's hope they have some wise decision-makers there as well, otherwise good luck to us putting up with the "improved" version. -

Mirela,
I am a bookkeeper, an ordinary user as you are :).
If you need to correct 10 out of 50 invoices it is easy to do via that report. When you spot the wrong account you can click on the line of the report, it will open the invoice in question, and you can correct the ledger account. I attached a sample of this report. I deleted all dollar value columns in it.
I was and am advocating for classic invoicing in Xero community. You can check this link. It is the most popular.
Xero did read this discussion; they organised several online meetings with users. I took part in one of such meetings. Due to this discussion Xero agreed to postpone the classic invoicing retirement. But it will be retired on 27.02.2025. Yes, it’s a pity that we are losing our beloved beautiful Xero. It is not beautiful anymore, it’s ugly. And, yes, I totally agree with you about UAT.
They gave us the only explanation: classic invoicing platform is old and not compatible with the new world of online based software. There were several discrepancies (or outright lies) in their statements. For example, Diya Jolly posted in her blog that they had to do double work for everything to keep classic and new invoicing on par. Why then new is a downgraded version of classic? I guess we will never know it.

Hi Olga
Thank for your response. You can understand though that a report cannot replace checking invoices one by one and correcting them on the spot. What do we do if 10 invoices out of 50 need correction? Do I write them down and go back to each to correct them? Do I write down which line is wrong before I do that? It may sound like a workaround but it might take 10 times the time to do.
Can you please answer my second question as well? Why the new and old invoicing cannot coexist? I am a former programmer and I know for sure they can. It can be configurable.
In my 16 years as a software developer I never saw any version being terminated before the new one passes UAT (user acceptance testing). The announcement that old invoicing will be retired in February is a shame to the XERO product managers and quality assurance managers. A beta version needs to be released and who wants to use it can, until all issues are fixed. You simply cannot go live with unfinished product. Can you please report my comments to higher management and provide proper explanation? We are paying customers and this practice is unacceptable.

Hi Mirela,
For the time being, there is a workaround for this issue.
You can run a report "Receivable Invoice Detail". There in the filter under Status you can tick Draft if you want to check your draft invoices before theiy are approved. Group it by Invoice Number. Check that under Columns Account is ticked. Then you can check all your draft invoices at a glance. Also, you can reorder columns as you wish to make it easier for your eyes.

Hi Xero Team, this feature is critical for me. I am unable to do my job properly because of this. We have invoices with many lines and I am supposed to check if all items were entered in the correct account. Previously I was able to have a glance and check. Now I need to click on every account to display the name. This is simply not doable. I will destroy my arm with that amount of mouse clicking. Not only is inefficient, but it also looks horrible. Please compare the 2 screenshots I added.
On another note, can you please explain why you are unable to allow the old and new version to coexist as it is the case now? I have seen hundreds of complaints about the new invoicing. Whose purpose does the new invoicing fit? If we are happy with current version, why force us to switch to an inferior version?
Please respond. Thank you. -

I've kinda-but-not-really fixed this for myself by using a CSS editor plugin to change the size of all text on the invoice to the same size as the table headers. It's also made a bunch of other things the same (small) size on other pages, and to be honest, with very few exceptions it's all a lot more functional.
(for example, the list of bills to pay is much more readable with the table text the same size as the table headers instead of larger, in line with accepted table formatting)

Yes, please include wrap or auto adjustable columns to view the entire wording in the column.

New invoice screen – COA details can’t be read easily. The account code below, there are many that began with “Contractor P” – why can’t some “space” be given to fitting the full data in a wrap fashion. It is ALSO a hassle to click in the Account cell and then not even be able to land at the position of the account already entered to see the other options are available in the same location. Having to scroll all the way through again or type in the word is a time waster.

Just flipped across to the new invoicing and not having text wrap on the account column provides for an awful user experience creating an invoice.
Many of our account names begin with similar text - with repeating invoices in particular, this now means we need to click in each one to confirm the account code before saving the invoice.
Please fix this before you bin classic invoicing!

One of my clients uses multiple sales nominals with very similar names. Only being able to see the first half makes it really difficult to know if you've selected the right one, without clicking back in every line item

This is super important as many of my clients have long complicated chart of accounts and likewise long complicated account code names

I would also like to see wrap text in the Account field, but also for our tracking fields.
