Inventory - Increase character limit for products description
50 characters is often insufficient to identify separate products in (particularly) technical book names or descriptions especially where there are different versions of the same book (hard/soft covers, multiple language versions)

Pricing Plan - Increase the limits of Bills in Ignite Pricing Plan
Dear Xero
I'm a user of your Standard business plan and happy to pay for this service, but also a user of your Starter Plan for another business in another country and it has some limitations which really need attention for small business owners who don't do much accounting.
The limit of 5 bills a month has to be increased to at least 10 which seams fair for a small business. I don't see the value of your price increase for basic features we need.
The other issue with 5 bills its allocated to each month, so should you have no bills the following month you can't even use the 5 bill options for previous months.

Audit Trail Report
We desperately need an audit trail report available for advisors.
I think it would be sufficient to have the below added to the account transactions report style (but named as Audit Trail):
1 - the ability to include an 'edited date' column
2 - the ability to include a 'notes' column
3 - a tick box to show/hide audit trail history (so voids would show as separate creation and void lines netting off, not just removal of the original transaction)
4 - a unique un-editable transaction identifier for all transactions, not just bills/invoicesIt must be exportable to excel with the dates on every line.
So many times I have gone to produce a set of accounts and the prior year has changed because the date wasn't locked, or the client unlocked it, or someone didn't realise they shouldn't retrospectively correct the bank after filing the year end...

VAT excel export - Date column should default to date format
Dates should default to date format when exporting the VAT return to excel.
Currently when exporting the VAT return to excel that dates automatically default to either text or general format. This means you can't filter the dates by oldest to newest as the filter selection defaults to A-Z.
Changing the date to date format via format cells does not fix the issue. The only way I have found is to manually update the dates using the =DATEVALUE(x) formula and paste these new values over the old ones. This can be very tedious when working with a lot of late claims etc.

Bank Feed - Connect SumUp as a bank account
It would be great to be able to connect a normal SumUp account like you can Stripe or PayPal not just SumUp POS.
12 votesHi everyone, thanks for your votes on this idea. While we're always interested in integrating with more banks, the most effective way to get a new feed established is for customers to request it directly from their bank. The more that SumUp hears from its own customers that a Xero integration for bank feeds is needed, the more likely they are to work with us to build one.
For now, you can manually import your SumUp transaction data into Xero using QIF, OFX, or CSV file types. You can find detailed instructions on how to do this in the Xero Central article below.
This idea is open for voting and comments, and we'll continue to keep an eye on the interest for this idea here.

Contacts - Add Sales Tax Exemption field to import/export file
Please include the Sales Tax Exemption field as a column in the Contact csv template/import.
The new auto tax feature appears to utilize this field, and having to go to each contact through Xero, one at a time, to edit and update this field is very time consuming. Too many clicks to update a field for every customer contact a client has.
Tax affects all customers. It would be beneficial when rolling out new features such as this to consider what needs to be done to make such a feature truly work and be efficient. The ability to do mass changes via csv is crucial to large integration updates such as this.

Bills - Remove "Forwarded Bill" note from the Reference field
I'd like the ability to remove the "Forwarded Bill" note from the Reference field on the Bills tabs.
Purpose: to make the data on these tabs easier to view. All of our bills are input via the Email Bill to Xero functionality - this note therefore appears on every single bill and is not only redundant but makes the actual references / invoice numbers harder to read.

Repeating Invoices - Day/Date placeholder option
in Recurring invoices, placeholders are essential to accurate and meaningful descriptions. Placeholders seem to currently only offer Week, Month & Year but not ‘Day’ or [DATE] or [TODAY]. (with the usual +/- feature). This would be hugely helpful for recurring daily or weekly invoices or for communicating a relevant billing period on a Monthly invoice (that differs from calendar months or calendar weeks) without having to manually update the date in description of every Repeated invoice. Currently more work is required and ALL repeating invoices need manual intervention before approval whereas if this could be automated Bills could be automatically approved and sent.

Report - Produce Dividend vouchers in Xero
Dear All,
i have the following suggestion. I think it would make sense to allow the production of a Dividend Voucher in Xero also by in-house accountants, rather than only by an accounting firm that is a Xero partner.
Many thanks and kind regards, Andrea

AU Payroll - Option to add ETP Type D
We have had the unfortunate event of an employee pass away whilst still employed.
I would like to suggest that Xero make it easier for companies to be able to process a death benefit payment (ETP - type D) within the system rather than having to process this manually and then having to do journal entries for the system to balance correctly. And to then have to process paper copies of PAYG payment summaries to report this to the ATO.

AU Payroll - Show leave balance on payslip without accruals
Australian Payroll - sick leave on payslip - want to show balance without accrual in the payrun, and to be able to do this after employment has commenced. Currently this is only possible if you allocate the full balance to employee's at the start of the employment. Historically this has not been done and it needs to be changed to avoid staff confusion and having to reset the leave each payrun.
4 votesHi team, being open we don't have any plans around this atm. Currently to do this you would set the leave type calculation to 'No calculation required'. This will allow you to set the balance and have any accrual column showing.

UK Payroll: Include employer pension contributions in employee opening balances
Have the ability to enter employer pension contributions in the opening balances when adding a new client to Xero. At present the resulting payslip is incorrect as the YTD employer pension figure only shows the current month and not YTD.

AU Payroll - Option to include Public Holiday hours in Unpaid leave types
At this stage Xero doesn't recognise if an Employee is on Unpaid Leave.
Xero's default behaviour when an employee (that is assigned to a holiday group) submits a request for a period of Unpaid Leave spanning one or more public holidays, is to exclude those Public Holidays from the calculated Unpaid Leave hours.
This has the effect of allocating those Public Holidays as paid hours in a pay-run rather than as unpaid hours. This is not consistent with the Fair Work Act (https://www.fairwork.gov.au/employment-conditions/public-holidays/not-working-on-public-holidays)
If this is not picked up and adjusted before finalising a pay-run it can result in over-pay, with a knock-on effect in relation to super payments and the possible over-accrual of other leave entitlements which would need to be reversed using unscheduled payruns.
At present, manual adjustment of the calculated unpaid leave hours prior to posting/finalising a payrun is the only viable preventative solution since other workarounds such as removing an employee from a holiday group would have undesirable consequences for the way public holidays are treated for paid leave types.
The need for manual checking and adjustments just add to the administrative burden.
A better and simple solution would be for Xero to either:
• change the default behaviour to include public holiday hours in the unpaid leave type, or
• add a payroll-admin selectable option to include or exclude public holiday hours from leave typesAt this stage Xero doesn't recognise if an Employee is on Unpaid Leave.

Sales - Complete POS solution
Hi i can't believe you don't have a POS app tablets for use in cafes and shops. a quick google api for databasing while offline and it would be solid as. you only need to support a handful of thermal printers and cash draws. just look what vend is doing. it would be a huge product if deployed correctly
3 votesHi Douglas, while we don't have a POS app ourselves you'll find Xero integrates with many different POS solutions, including Vend. You can explore the range of these on our App store.
We don't have any immediate plans for expanding into this area atm, but we'll keep tracking the interest of this here and share if there's any plans made. Thanks

Xero Accounting app - Support US Auto Sales Tax
Including the AUTO lookup feature for sales tax in the Mobile App would make the product usability much better in states such as Colorado. To create invoices at "pop-up" events in various tax jurisdictions is crucial so you don't have to remember to continuously load new rates for complex destination /home-room rule situations. The "usability" of the app would be increased rather than being tethered to a computer to manage.

AU Payroll - Hide employee personal details for payrun
In the age of outsourcing, it is impossible to outsource pay run function to an external service provider (especially if they are based overseas) since they can view employee's personal info such as their Tax File Number, Date of Birth, Bank account Details etc.
Once the subscriber or authorized accountant/bookkeeper has created an employee card, they should be able to restrict the access of outsourced partner to just doing the pay run. The outsourced partner should be able to just view the employee name to do the pay run. This feature should restrict their ability to change bank account details or hourly rates, they shouldn't be able to view their TFN, date of birth, contact details etc. Having this feature on Xero will improve functionality and make Xero the only software provider in the market with this feature. Currently, no software provider has this feature.

Contacts - Auto generate Account Number for a New Contact
When adding a new contact if you use account numbers (which is important to use as a primary key for records) it would be really good if a autogenerated number was assigned as a default (like it does with an invoice number etc.). Currently you have to remember/check what the last account number you've used was.
144 votesHi all, we appreciate this idea has picked up a good amount of interest. This has all been shared with and considered by our product teams.
As the Contacts screen interacts with many other parts of Xero, this work can not commence until the modernisation of other, related systems is complete.
Due to this, we do not expect account numbers to be automatically generated for contacts to be delivered in the coming short-term.
In the meantime however, we're keen to continue collecting feedback and votes on this idea, and we will provide an update here when there's more details to share.

AU Payroll - Automatically calculate pro-rata salary based on employee's starting date
New Employee start date is part way through a pay week. The New pay run does not recognise the start day and calculates an entire weeks pay.
This requires manual calculation and double check if the pay run has been recalculated. Open to errors and over payment17 votes -
Purchases - Ability to apply a deposit
Deposits on Sales and Purchases - will this ever be possible in Xero? The workarounds are fine if you have a few deposits to keep track of. But what if you have many? Like my Art Gallery client where most art is sold on a 'layby' system. The layby isn't recorded as a sale until it is fully paid. The customer makes multiple payments. There is no way to directly link the payments to a pending sale. They all coded on-mass into a prepayment liability account. The only way to keep track of payments is a spreadsheet which is time consuming, unweildly and prone to errors. SURELY this functionality can be added to Xero. Pretty, please?
