Payment Services - Add Alipay as a payment service
Proposal: Integrating Alipay as a Payment Option in Xero
Overview
Introducing Alipay as a payment option for Xero invoices will provide significant benefits for businesses engaging with international markets, particularly China. As China is Australia’s largest trading partner, offering a seamless payment method like Alipay will enhance cash flow, improve payment experiences, and reduce barriers for Chinese customers to pay invoices.Key Reasons to Integrate Alipay:
China is Australia’s Largest Trading Partner
China accounts for a significant share of Australia’s exports and imports. For businesses that trade with Chinese companies or customers, Alipay is often the preferred or only method of payment.
Providing Alipay as an option makes it easier for Chinese partners to pay invoices promptly, avoiding delays caused by incompatible payment systems.
Alipay’s Market Dominance
Alipay is one of the most widely used payment platforms in China, with over 1.3 billion users worldwide.
It dominates the digital payment landscape, with Chinese businesses and individuals heavily reliant on it for transactions.
By integrating Alipay, Xero will enable businesses to cater directly to this massive user base.
Seamless Cross-Border Transactions
Traditional international bank transfers are often slow, expensive, and prone to errors, especially when dealing with currency conversions.
Alipay simplifies the process by allowing instant, secure payments while managing the exchange rate in real-time.
This will accelerate cash flow for businesses and reduce administrative overheads related to tracking international payments.
Increased Competitiveness for Xero
Competitors offering invoicing software may already be looking to integrate popular international payment methods.
Adding Alipay will enhance Xero’s value proposition for businesses that trade with Chinese partners, making it a preferred choice for international companies.
Facilitating Growth for Australian Businesses
Australian exporters, particularly in sectors like agriculture, education, gas, manufacturing, and tourism, rely heavily on Chinese customers.
Allowing payments via Alipay will make it simpler for these businesses to collect revenue, helping them focus on growth and strengthening trade relationships.
Improving Customer Experience
For Chinese businesses and individuals, paying via Alipay is familiar, trusted, and easy. This reduces friction and encourages prompt payments.
Businesses will experience fewer payment disputes or abandoned invoices when their customers can use their preferred method of payment.
Strengthening Xero’s Presence in Asia-Pacific
By supporting Alipay, Xero can bolster its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly among small-to-medium enterprises looking to trade with China.
This strategic move aligns with Xero’s goal to expand its reach and customer base globally.
Increased Adoption of Digital Payments
Alipay supports the global trend of moving towards cashless and digital payments.
Adding this payment option complements Xero’s existing tools for managing invoices, automating payments, and streamlining financial operations.
Implementation Benefits:
Reduced Payment Delays: Faster and more reliable transactions.
Improved Cash Flow: Businesses can access funds quickly and reduce waiting times.
Simplified Processes: Streamlined currency conversion and automated payment reconciliations.
Enhanced Customer Satisfaction: A payment method tailored to key trading partners.
Conclusion
Integrating Alipay into Xero’s platform will significantly enhance Xero’s appeal to businesses operating with Chinese customers and partners. This move will not only simplify the payment process but also improve cash flow, customer satisfaction, and Xero’s competitive position in the market. By acknowledging the needs of businesses in an increasingly global economy, Xero can continue to be a leader in innovative financial solutions.Proposal: Integrating Alipay as a Payment Option in Xero

UK Payroll - Salary Sacrifice segregation on Gross to Net report
Currently the Salary Sacrifice is just deducted on the Gross to Net report. Where as on the TB the amount is added. It would be good if this could be segregated.

We would like to revert back to the old way as this is adding time and is also adding more unnecessary files to our computer system. please help us to streamline this process again as the current system doesn`t work for us

Invoicing | Contact - Default address based on GPS
Hi,
My business often delivers the same or similar services to repeat customers. It would be useful if Xero could default the contact address based on GPS Location, and then even propose default invoice items and pricing to make the invoicing process easier. This reduces the risk of invoicing mistakes and adds efficiency into the process for invoice creation. Also helps with contact payment process improvement.1 voteHey Nathan, thanks for sharing this idea. Using GPS to automatically fill in a contact’s address would save you time and make invoicing on the go much smoother.
It’s a smart way to reduce manual entry and help keep addresses accurate.
This feature is now in Gaining Support. If you think it’d be useful, please add your vote or comment. Hearing from all of you helps our product team understand what matters most.

Reports - "Find a Report" search (from 'Home' tab) returns results from all tabs
Quality of Life suggestion:
At present, typing in a report name into the "Find a Report" search-box will only give you a return if you're in the correct tab (eg. searching from the 'Home' tab will not return any 'Custom' or 'Drafts' reports).
I suggest that reports from other tabs be included, at least when searching from the 'Home' tab, with an icon/heading to distinguish the tab-origin of the report.
(I appreciate 'Published' and 'Archived' returns could run into the hundreds, so perhaps a toggle/filter would suffice to omit/include those returns as desired)
1 voteHi Jonathan, thanks for this fantastic 'quality of life' suggestion. We really appreciate you taking the time to detail not just the idea, but also how it could work in practice.
We've reviewed your proposal to enhance the "Find a Report" search box so it returns results from all tabs – like 'Custom' and 'Drafts' – not just the one you're currently viewing. We can see how this would make finding the right report much faster.
Your idea is now open for other members of the community to support and add their thoughts to. Along with votes, others can now comment on how a global search for reports, perhaps with the filters you suggested, would improve their own day-to-day workflow.

Invoicing - Undo/revert to previous version of an invoice
Create an undo or revert option for edits made to invoices. We can already see the history of changes made to an invoice, so why can't there be a option to undo or revert to a previous revision of the invoice?

UK Payroll - CIS Suffered Report, Correct Xero to allocate credit notes correctly
IDEA - CIS suffered report to calculate the CIS suffered correctly.
ISSUE - If you apply a credit note to an invoice that has both CIS labour and CIS materials, Xero does not calculate the CIS suffered correctly. Even though the credit note is coded to the correct nominal code, Xero doesn't recognise this. This causes the CIS suffered report to reduce the deduction amount which is incorrect. This means the figure you submit to HMRC is lower than it should be. Meaning less of a refund of CIS suffered than it actually should be.

Chart of Accounts - Change Xero's default Entertainment ledger codes
Chart of Accounts - the ledger codes (a) Entertainment-100% business and (b) Entertainment-0%. Can you change these categories? We accountants all know that the descriptions are misleading.
Almost all (unqualified) bookkeepers use (a) for client entertainment and claim VAT. Subsequently, accountants blindly treat this category as business expenses, reducing the taxable profit. (i.e. wrongly deduct it for corporation tax purposes) I cannot tell you how many cases I've seen in the past few years.
Please change the default categories to (a) Staff-only entertainment and (b) Client entertainment?
2 votesHi Ray, appreciate your raising this through product ideas.
We'll get a sense of the interest in changing this within the default chart of accounts from the community here.
Just to confirm, while Xero offers a default chart of accounts, you can import your own chart of accounts to set these up as you prefer, or edit individual accounts within Xero.

Contacts - Search newly registered addresses
When adding a contact, the "search address" works fine most of the time, but can take some time before new addresses are added to the search data base and require manual entry (usually cut and paste from Google Maps.) Could this feature not be linked with an API to the likes of Googles address infrastructure to utilise their rapidly adapting data base?
3 votesThanks for your feedback here, team. This helps when sharing back with our product team. I've slightly amended the title of your idea.
We don't have any immediate plans for changing the current base results are pulled but we'll keep an eye on the interest here. I'll be sure to update you if there's any news.

Reconciliation - Auto search in find and match screen
when searching for an invoice number in find and match while doing reconciliation, it would be useful not to have to hit enter every time, especially as i can only search one invoice at a time. it all adds up to excess clicks when doing large batch reconciliations

Jobber integration to sync data from Xero
There is currently a way one sync from Jobber to Xero. It would be great if a sync from Xero to Jobber can be implemented to records payments in Jobber as soon as a transaction is reconciled in Xero. Similar to what is being one with Thryv and other integrations. This will save me about 1 hour of effort everyday and about 5 hours monthly when the bulk payments come in. I have tried to implement this myself however Jobber API support states they will only allow this if a partner works with them like Quickbooks and Stripe.
1 voteHi Jaco, I want to be open that we don't typically design and build integrations with other apps ourselves. We have a Xero Developer ecosystem where interested parties can come to get information on how to integrate and sync data from Xero with their application. If not already, I'd suggest letting Jobber support team know this is something you'd like to see and if they'd consider expanding their integration for.

Reconciliation | Bank fee - Cursor default to contact
When adding a bank fee adjustment during the details entry of a reconciliation, it'd save a click to automatically place the cursor focus on the contact field. This already happens when we click to add details to a reconciliation, so it makes sense for the same behavior to occur when we click to add a bank fee adjustment. One click...hundreds of times...lots of efficiency!
1 voteBig thanks to Matthew for kicking things on this! The idea is to have the cursor default to the contact field when adding a bank fee during reconciliation. It’s a small change, but when you’re working through heaps of transactions, it can save a lot of time.
If this would make your workflow smoother, we’d love to hear more from you. Add your vote or drop a comment to let us know, it helps the product team see how much this matters across the community.
We’ll keep you posted here as things move along.

Invoicing - Adjust 28 days conflict for 30 day suppliers in February
In February this year, all suplier invoices that were supposed to be marked 30 days, got moved to due in March and not end Feb due to the 28 days, This needs to be changed as an exception as there will never be 30 days in Feb.
1 voteThanks for sharing your idea and letting us know what changes you want to see!
We've reviewed it, and now it's in the hands of the community for support. Be sure to share your idea with any colleagues who would also benefit—their votes and comments can help build momentum and add more detail on how this change could improve their experience with Xero.

Xero Accounting app - View VAT due
It would be extremely useful if we could view VAT on the dashboard of mobile phone app. Director only uses Xero on his phone so can never keep track of what VAT is due.
3 votesThanks for your idea here, Sue. Understand how different details would be helpful for different users on the go through the Xero Accounting app.
This isn't something we have plans for right now, but we'll continue to track the interest from your idea here.

New invoicing - option to 'approve and close'
There are new options now under 'Approve' on the new Sales Invoice. The majority of my invoices are created post-purchase, so I create the invoice, approve the invoice, then usually need to go back to the Invoices overview. I want to see added 'Approve and return' or 'Approve and close'. Currently it takes me three clicks to get back to the invoices, because I need to click on Approve, then 'Invoices' from the breadcrumb, then to 'All' since it defaults back to Awaiting Payment. (Why doesn't clicking 'Invoices' from the breadcrumb take you back to the All tab?? Surely that would please everyone, since that's ALL the invoices??

4 votesHi Trudi, while the Business menu option I mentioned in my last update remains the best flow for what you're after here currently.
I thought it may be useful to share that we've recently released some keyboard shortcuts for common actions in new invoicing that may help improve your efficiency when invoicing. Our product team have added small prompts to highlight these in the product while our customers familiarise, and if you’d like to view the full list of options you can see them all on Xero Central.
We'll continue to track the interest in an approve & close option here, and share if there are any changes planned that may impact this.

Bank Reconciliation - Report date to default to next period
When reconciling bank account, then publishing it should display the bank details as setup in chart of accounts - it just just says bank reconciliation. So makes it hard to know which report is which. Once reconciled it should default to the the next date so you don't have to change dates continuously.

Xero Me | Expenses - Allow time to focus camera when capturing receipts
When using the xero me app to capture an receipt image to upload to an expense, the capture is much too quick, and does not allow enough time for the phone camera to focus. Also it does not support multi receipt capture.
