Ability to enter dates directly in formats other than dd mmm yyyy
Across Xero it would be very useful (and intuitive) to be able to type dates in formats other than dd mmm yyyy (for example dd/mm/yyyy, ddmmyyyy, etc). The dd mmm yyyy isn't the usual way to enter and clients have commented that it's irritating that they can't type the date in (they use the calendar instead) because it didn't occur to them to try this format, and even when you are aware the habit when typing dates into these boxes is to use one of the more common formats so it can lead to errors
1 voteHi Jonathan, is there a specific feature within Xero that your clients have commented about this in? In many places throughout Xero they should find entry of a date using dd/mm/yyyy or dd-mm-yyyy is accepted. We also have shortcuts mentioned in Xero Central that you could share with your clients to help them understand other keyboard actions that can help with their data entry.

New Invoicing – invoice copied from locked period mess
Kelly, it is a long message. Please be patient. It demonstrates what mess is created in new invoicing. It demonstrates that new invoicing is not ready to fly solo after 20.11.2024. We must have a functional backup of classic invoicing if new invoicing is so erroneous.
I had to credit invoice INV-1548 for $1,483.35 in the locked period and replace it with two new invoices addressed to two customers (let’s call them customer1 and customer2). I had to show in the new invoices what was the credit part for each customer.
My steps are below:
1. I copied…30 votesHi Olga, really appreciate all the detail in your steps and the screenshots you provided.
I tried testing this myself with a Chrome browser and did get the same errors and behaviour you described, so have raised this with our product team. I'll keep you updated of any information I get back from them on this, here.

NZ Tax: Terminal tax labelled as Residual tax to pay
On the IR3 2024 tax return it is currently labelling the tax liability after provisional tax paid as 2024 residual tax to pay. It should say "Tax to pay" or "Terminal Tax to pay". It is incorrect and confusing to have the tax before and also after provisional tax to both be labelled as residual tax. In communications when we are advising on provisional tax obligations we reference the obligation being based on 105% or 110% of residual income tax and now that is not clear for the client which figure we are using. In addition under the 2025 provisional…
9 votesHi team, we appreciate your insight into the confusion this label can cause. This is something our product team plan to address and make a change for within payment summary for 2025 IR3.
I'll be back to share more updates as this is worked on.

Income by contact Detailed report!
Income by contact Detailed report! to show all invoices, itemised that are on
2 votesLooks like your idea my have been cut off here, Oliver - Is there any more detail you'd like to share with this? While the Income by Contact report will show totals, you can easily click on an amount which will drill down to the contact activity for that period.

Login to Xero - Having trouble
I don’t want to leave feedback
1 voteHi Lee, I'd like to look into this for you. Could you share an image or give some detail of where you're going when trying to access Xero that's giving you a survey?

XPM - Need option to add NZBN field into custom reports
We are in the process of checking all Client details in XPM to ensure they are all complete and up to date. One of the checks that we were doing was to ensure that we had the NZBN numbers of clients recorded. However this appears to be the only client field that you are unable to select when creating a custom report!
Xero's response to my query was "you may like to add this in as a custom field and input in the NZBN in the custom field section for the clients which will then pull into the report" -…3 votesHi everyone, appreciate the feedback we've received since my previous updates and apologies for any confusion caused.
Checking back in with our product teams around this, there is a current issue that means some NZ practices are unable to add Business Number to their custom reports atm. This is something we intend to rectify and I'll move the idea back to Under review for now, and as soon as there are further updates on it, we'll share with you here.

NZ Tax - Allow for rounding in dividend, RWT and Imputation credit audit check
AUDIT CHECK FOR DIVIDENDS RWT AND IMPUTATION CREDITS IS TOO SENSITIVE - IT IS PICKING UP VERY SMALL ROUNDING AND ALERTING.
Xero needs to allow for the "rounding" to be accepted - maybe expand the parameters. Unless we go into the return and round it up or down (which is a terrible waste of time) then the alert stays there, and we then get the scenario of anybody looking at the return wondering if there is an error and then they go and check - once again - a terrible waste of time.3 votesWe appreciate your feedback on the warnings for dividend imputation credits in the IR3 with us on the idea, here. Our team do have plans to improve the warning to only be triggered by 2 decimal places.
For now we'll shift this idea to under review and I'll be back to keep you updated on when this work begins. Thanks

Report for direct debits
I would suggest that Xero should provide direct debits from all your accounts in one report.
1 voteHi Komal, just to make sur we understand the idea here properly. When you say you'd like a report of all direct debits, is this where you've made a direct debit payment for bills? Or where you have customers that may be on direct debit payments with your business?

Manual Journal Report with Details
A report for strictly manual journals that would show ID, Narration, accts, etc, or the ability to filter manual journals in the current journal report.
4 votesHi Brenda, there is the ability to filter by many of the column in the current Journal report. Or is it a different detail you'd like to be able to filter by in this?

Xero Tax (UK) | Prepare sole trader accounts on cash basis
Ability to create sole trader accounts on the cash basis to pull through to tax returns.
6 votesHi Claire, thanks for your interest in this idea. Although we haven't enabled the option to exclude a balance sheet from sole trader accounts within Xero HQ we wanted to share this very exciting update with you. We recently released a direct import of the P&L from Xero onto the self-employment worksheet within Personal Tax, without the need to map the account codes and generate a set of sole trader accounts.
Previously we only supported an import from Sole Trader Accounts to Personal Tax which for some of our partners involved an extra step, particularly for smaller clients who typically only receive Income & Expenditure accounts. We hope by adding this functionality that you will be able to maximise the more flexible reporting capabilities within Xero to produce accounts for sole traders. This new feature is not simply an import either, it also supports cash-basis, allows you to manage the…

Xero Tax (UK) | Prevent the auto-reversal of negative balances so we can offset debtors and creditors where necessary
This is not a simple feature request. This is a blatant fault with how Xero Tax handles asset figures.
In this particular case we have two accounts in the book-keeping records for CIS tax, because we wish to track CIS deducted by contracted on sales and CIS deducted from subcontractors separately. Transfers are made between the accounts as appropriate when liabilities are reported for payment to HMRC.
At the year end, we want to show this as a single balance. As the net result was an asset at the year end, we tagged both to an appropriate asset type. Instead…
51 votesAppreciate your input here, everyone. Our team is aware of the challenges our partners are facing around the auto-reversal of negative balance. It’s on their roadmap to investigate and provide a better user experience.
For the time being, I’ll move this idea into ‘Under review’ status. And when there's movement, we'll make sure to come back here and let you all know. -
Personal Tax (UK) | Tick boxes to show which sections have been completed
Have the option to have a tick box to show a section as completed, as if you have to leave a return part completed and then return to it, (which could be nearly 2 months later) as you have requested additional information, you have to go through it all again to check what you have done whereas a tick box would show which has been done and save you some time.
3 votesThank you for raising this idea, Ruth. Our Product team can definitely see the benefits of adding support for this. As you will know personal tax has some permanent schedules (Client details, Attachments etc). Would you only expect to have the completed tracking against the schedules that are added or the permanent schedules as well?

Financial reports - Do not remove date fields in notes when using "Edit layout"
In the last financial year, we made multiple and significant layout changes to the accounting schedules in our financial notes.
Therefore, we intend to 'Copy and Edit' most of our financial reports. However, we have found that when you 'edit layout' it removes the date field codes in our numbered notes regardless of if you edit the number notes or not - therefore losing it's auto updating feature.
As a result, we are now having to manually update the year in all of our financials, or start from scratch.
Please make it so edit layout does not remove date fields…35 votesThanks for sharing how we can improve notes in reports for you. Currently, our product team is currently doing some research to identify areas for improvement in the Notes to Financial Statements in Report Templates.
We'd like to engage and get input from you all here, which will help the team understand where they can focus their efforts.
If you'd like to participate and share your thoughts, please fill in our short survey here✍️ - It'll only take a few minutes to complete, and our team would greatly appreciate your contributions to their discovery.
If you have any colleagues, that have interest in this you're welcome to share the link with them, too. 😊

Personal Tax (UK) - Tax adviser details
Ability to auto-fill tax adviser details for all clients (as agents) rather than manually adding the details for each tax return/year.
11 votesThanks for raising this idea, Abhaas. The tax adviser details will roll forward into the next year for each client, once added. But we totally understand that entering them in one place for all clients would be a big time saver.
For full transparency, this is something we'd love to solve for you, but we currently are working on other items like importing HMRC data and supporting the SA107, so it isn't currently something that is planned right now.
We definitely see the positives from auto-filling the tax adviser details so we'll continue to monitor interest in this idea and consider how this fits into our plans with making tax and practice management more integrated.

NZ Tax Letters - Notification when Tax Letter email fails to send
Currently if a tax letter email fails to send, for whatever reason, there is no email notification it failed to send. The system really needs to be enhanced so the person who sent the tax letter from XPM gets an email notification that the tax letter failed to send to that email address. Currently it is just blind faith that all letters are sent which is clearly not good.
32 votesOur team is looking into this idea, however, they don't have any dates planned on when they’ll develop a notification to let you know whether a tax letter has failed to send. We understand that this feature is important so that you can be certain your clients have received their tax payment reminder letters.
We are monitoring your feedback and votes here, so please keep adding them in this thread. For the time being, I’ll move this idea into ‘Under review’ status, and if there's any movement, we'll make sure to come back and update you here.

new title mx
XPM does not cater for titles for non-binary individuals. We have an individual who is non-binary. Their title is MX. This is currently not an option that is available in the Title drop down menu. Can this be added by Xero please?
6 votesThanks for sharing your idea here, Tanya. To check would this be for a client or staff's details? Just want to make sure we're sharing back with the right product team.

Xero HQ | Report Templates - Increase number of Director & Partner fields
Currently there is only the ability to enter 4 Directors names into the Report fields in 'Advanced accounting › Report fields and schedules'
So when we run the advisor reports, on the Director Declaration's page we have to manually type in the extra directors.
Can you increase the fields for more than 4 directors and even more than 4 partners.12 votesThanks for engaging and sharing the idea here - Having a deeper read to interpret, there's the ability to add more client report fields that can be included in your report templates yourself (such as Director 5, Director 6 etc) - See detail in our help here.
A couple of pointers to note, are;
- ensure you have the Edit report templates permission, then
- add the new client report fields at Xero HQ level first; this'll make them available to add in your Report templates. Then, add the names of the directors at the client level.
We hope this helps you overcome the idea here, let us know if this doesn't quite accomplish what you're asking.

Xero Tax (NZ) | Include [Payment] Payment Since Approved [START] field in Tax Payment letters awaiting approval report
TAX - Payment letters awaiting approval report in XPM to include [Payment] Payment Since Approved [START] field
1 voteHi Debbie, the 'waiting approval' report only contains unapproved letters. And the field you've references would only contain payments 'since approval' so even if included, would always be 0.00.
Could you share a little detail of any underlying pain point you're looking for this idea to help you solve? It'd help in sharing back with the team and considering how this could be tackled. Thanks!

Personal Tax (UK) | Add ability to track capital allowances
In personal tax there appears to be no provision to enter capital allowance for self employment in the form of a schedule which personal tax can keep year to year. This would help when writing down existing assets as well as adding and claiming for new assets differentiating the assets between main pool/special rate pool and assets with a personal use element to enter the percentage to apply.
20 votesHi everyone, Xero is committed to supporting the tracking of capital allowances claimed on capital expenditure. We understand how this will save with partners and remove manual tracking of written down allowances. At the moment we don't have confirmed date when this will be picked up, but as soon as we do we will let you know here.

Xero tax (UK) | Sole Trader Accounts - Ability to generate a report without a balance sheet
When using Xero tax for sole trader self assessments, and importing the Xero sole trader accounts, it would be so useful to generate reports that don't include the balance sheet, i.e. it would be better if one could edit the reports according to an individual requirements/reporting needs.
