E-Invoicing - PEPPOL Compliance
Ability to send invoices through PEPPOL network.
Purpose: To comply with the European standard of e-invoicing and e-ordering. Especially for those who deal with the public sector.
Hi team, we'd like to return with another update for everyone here. As mentioned in my last response our current support for Peppol eInvoicing in Xero extends to orgs in AU, NZ, UK, SG and MY.
We are still in discovery of development for UK orgs to send eInvoices to EU businesses and govt agencies - It is worth noting that right now the Belgian mandate does not impact UK suppliers to Belgian businesses.
That said, I am pleased to share that work for expanding Peppol to support other countries with regular Peppol support (including Belgium, Ireland and Malta) is already underway and expected to be live before December 2025. We will keep you updated of further news around this through the idea, here. Thanks!

If we could get an update from Xero on this that would be great, as the last update said it was expected to be live before December 2025. We are all now in a position where we will need to find our own solution outside of Xero this month, which we would have done earlier but assumed based on the latest update that we would be able to rely on Xero for this.
We are a Belgian entity, so this is MANDATORY for us to continue doing business in Belgium from 1 January. Stating that this doesn't impact UK suppliers does not help in our situation.

Our charity is very much dependent on this working in time. We have not been able to find an alternative solution. Nathan, if you know of one, are you able to share it?

Straight talk: If your business depends on e-invoicing being implemented by January 1, you should be actively exploring alternative solutions.
There is a low likelihood that this feature will suddenly be released in the next few weeks.
I wish Xero communicated its roadmap more clearly, but the reality is it doesn’t. Counting on a last-minute rollout (and expecting a rushed feature to work flawlessly) is not a sound business strategy.

Hi, Can you please confirm if you are going to be implementing this as we need to make a decision on whether we can keep Xero or whether we need to make alternative arrangements ASAP.

Can anyone confirm the finer details re the Belgian legislation coming into effect on January 1st? We have a client who is based in Netherlands and the UK and sells in Belgium but they don't have a Belgian VAT number. The legislation seems to indicate that you only have to comply if you are registered for VAT in Belgium, have a VAT number and are trading B2B.

In follow up to this I am in need to invoice a public entity in Greece from my UK entity. If I don't invoice by end of December 2025 I lose this client.
This now needs a resolution and the timeline is far from acceptable.

Your latest comment on this is from October 7th. We are almost in December 2025 and there is no update from you on this. As mentioned by others in this thread as well as myself, this integration is CRITICAL and your response that it does not impact UK suppliers to Belgian businesses is absolutely no help whatsoever.
Please can you confirm this is being rolled out this month. Othwerwise many of your customers will be forced to go elsewhere.
Your lack of urgency on this, and lack of appreciation of the disruption and problems it is causing your customers, is simply not acceptable. -

We have a client who is UK based and trades across Europe, in particular Germany and France, so they are going to need this functionality in order to both send and receive digital invoices. The sooner this is implemented the better.

Hi, we need this urgently. Currently evaluating other solutions because Xero not having support in EU. We run business in UK, Spain and Netherlands and it is a mandatory requirement starting next year 2026 in Spain and soon in the Netherlands too. Can you confirm you are working on this?

We are a UK business with a subsidiary in Belgium. Many of the services we rely on in Belgium invoice our UK head office and require PEPPOL compliance. Please can this be implemented through Xero asap.

Is there any news on this? We really need it for our Belgian subsidiary - we are already being asked for this by our Belgian suppliers.

I also need to send invoices to a Belgian government agency from 1/1/26. They are asking me to do this now but I will beg them to process the current invoice as a pdf and pray the Xero e-invoicing from UK to Belgium is ready in time for that deadline.
Thanks for keeping us updated. -

This is important to our business. To send, and even receive, Peppol invoices for Belgium. We are at risk holding off on a feature with no confirmed dates, so any transparency here is valued. Thanks.

As it is now November now, do you have any updates on this?
As the deadline for Belgium is quickly approaching and we need to ensure that we remain compliant and do not need to find another supplier for this requirement.

Echoing earlier comments around the compulsory requirement to send eInvoices through Peppol in Belgium from January 1st 2026.
When will this be available for Belgian entities?

The legal requirement in Belgium to send all invoices via PEPPOL as per 1 January is ONLY BETWEEN BELGIAN vendors and customers.
In a later phase, it will become mandatory between European entities according to an EU directive. This means it’s not as urgent as it seems from an Australian pov.
However, since Xero is already PEPPOL compliant, how hard can it be to support sending/receiving invoices between an Australian/Belgian suppliers/customers? -

Hi Xero Team,
As from the 01/01/2026 it will be compulsory in Belgium to send eInvoices through Peppol only.
How confident are you that this will be possible and how soon?
We are in a position where we may need to switch to a new accounting software for our different entities to make sure we comply with this new law.

Kelly, it is good to know that Xero are finally looking into this, as many of your clients not only send invoices from UK to Belgium and other EU countries but have local EU entities as well so this is essential for us. I do hope that Xero appreciates the seriousness of this as Xero is quickly becoming unusable in the EU as it is not keeping up with developments.
