Prepayments & Accrual Schedules
Instead of using spreadsheets, it would be very handy for Xero to have prepayment & accruals schedules built-in that act similar to the Fixed Asset function.
For example, when you allocated a new invoice to the prepayment nominal, Xero would detect that transaction and add it to the schedule. At the end of the month, you access the Prepayment & Accruals screen, go to drafts, and fill out a form giving it the period with su[plier, start date, end date and number of days/weeks/months it lasts (this would determine how often a journal is created when ran). Once done, you…
263 votesHi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback on prepayment and accrual schedules. We appreciate you explaining how important this is for your month-end processes and workflow efficiency.
I’d like you to know your idea's been carefully reviewed by our product team. They appreciate and understand the need for tracking revenue and expenditure related to prepayments and accruals, however at this time with other initiatives in the roadmap such as improving the bill creation and payment processes there are currently no plans for this in the pipeline.
We’re keeping a close account of the support in this here, and will continue to review this opportunity within future planning. If there’s any progress made I’ll be sure to share with you all, here.

Invoicing - Allow Item and Description-only lines, with no Qty or Unit Price
When choosing item code and description, I want the ability to leave the rest of the fields blank. Classic invoicing had no problems with it. The new invoicing wants to populate QTY, UNIT PRICE and AMOUNT. Makes the invoice look unappealing.

565 votesHi community, we appreciate the continued traction this idea's received, and do want to provide clarity and set expectation.
Your feedback has been valuable in understanding the needs of using description only lines to; add subheadings, provide context for grouped charges, and ensure your invoices are easy for your clients to read and understand.
To reconfirm, atm - You can add one-off description only lines as you enter an invoice. However, if you add detail to any other field the line will be treated as a 'financial' line and you'll need to include Qty, Unit price, Account and Tax rate.
- We know some users have set up and saved inventory items for description only lines they commonly use, however as the item code field is used for inventory items the line of the invoice is treated as 'financial' meaning you'll then need to include Qty, Unit price, Account and Tax…

New invoicing - Assign next number in sequence when number removed
We bulk upload invoices in advance with "Draft" invoice numbers as we don't know their ultimate sequence for issue. We then assign a chronological invoice number when the invoice is approved and/or saved. In "Classic" invoicing, if I delete the invoice number it automatically assigned the next number in sequence e.g. #INV-0089, however in "New" invoicing if I delete the invoice number is warns me that I need a number and reverts to the original "Draft" number" and not the next chronological number in sequence. This is a significant backward step in functionality, can you confirm this bug will be…
112 votesHi everyone, thanks to everyone that completed and fed back through our earlier survey. We appreciate you sharing needs in sequential invoice numbering and will continue to consider these needs as we evolve invoicing in Xero.
Right now, we want to be upfront that there are no direct changes planned for how invoice numbers are assigned.
We'll keep monitoring interest of this here and will update if there are any developments.

Invoice reminders - Custom date and time
Being able to customise the invoice reminder so it only goes through during business hours and during working days M-F.
45 votesHi everyone, thanks for engaging with us here in Product Ideas. We know having more control over when messages are sent is important to customers.
We've just released the ability to schedule the send of a one-off invoice in Xero, but we also recognise the broader feedback here about wanting similar control for other send types, like invoice reminders.
While this isn’t on the roadmap right now, the feedback on this idea will be an important consideration for our product team in future planning sessions.
We appreciate you taking your time to support and share your feedback, and we'll update if there's any news.

New Invoicing | Copy to - Purchase order
When a selecting the new invoicing platform, you lose certain functions.
The first function that has been lost is the ability to copy invoice data to a purchase order - this feature needs to added to the new platform as some business use this to purchase items that have been sold from a supplier and makes sure there are no errors.
The second function is when invoicing from Project the time entered for that project is no longer being allocated to an invoice and showing in the project as not invoiced, this will cause doubling up on billing.182 votesHi everyone, appreciate the continued interest and support this idea receives.
I know it's been sometime since our last update, and I understand frustration in recent comments wanting more news on where this is at.
I want to confirm our product teams still have good intentions to develop the ability to copy to a purchase order from within an invoice, however with the current option of being able to copy to from the invoice list and prioritisation of other pieces of work this isn't roadmapped just yet.
I totally get the needs here and hearing how you found this feature so useful. As soon as there's further news we'll make sure to share this with you all, here. Thanks

Sales Invoice - Show associated Project name on the invoice
Currently, while raising the invoice, it is not possible to show the project names in the invoice above the works done. The works indicated in the invoice should be linked to the project and this project name should be shown in the invoice.
87 votesThanks for your continual support and engagement here, we want to apologise it's taken so long for us to respond.
You’ve explained the need in displaying the related Project name on an invoice clearly and your feedback here is really helpful.
While we don’t currently have this work roadmapped, our product team's looking more broadly at how invoices can include richer information. This idea will be part of that consideration as the work develops.
Though we can’t commit to development of projects on invoices at this stage, we wanted to acknowledge the feedback here and let you know we will make more efforts to share any updates on this idea as that broader work progresses.

Sales invoice - Add Notes that are visible to the customer
Currently you can put titles and notes etc on quotes and invoices etc. However the client does not see any of this. This is critical to be able to add notes etc that don't belong on a line item
85 votesHi team, thank you for your support and ongoing engagement in this idea. We understand the benefits some customers would find in being able to add notes or a free text field to invoices so you can add additional detail for your customers.
Being open, this isn't something we have in our roadmap atm, but will continue to consider for future enhancements.
For the time being, a couple of options that may be useful;
- Using only the description field of a line item to add additional details
- For more static messaging you could add the details to the payment advice of a standard template, or
- Add static text with an advanced template editing the template with DOCX
We appreciate this is not the complete solution and will continue to keep a close watch on this idea and share if there are any updates, here.

Invoices - Feature to 'write off' as bad debt
At the moment, you need to raise a credit note to write off a bad debt, which then records the invoice as "paid" which is extremely irksome, and factually incorrect. There needs to be an actual "write off" option so that the debts don't show up constantly in your reports and you can claim a tax deduction for them, but they don't get recorded as paid.
762 votesThanks to everyone that’s shared interest in being able to write-off invoices or bills as a bad debt. We understand how a direct feature would enhance your use of Xero and flows when trading.
As shared in our last update, while not a one-click solution we appreciate the needs expressed for being able to record bad debts right now, and have a Xero Central article that provides a way of currently accommodating this in Xero today.
There are also other options that have been shared by members in this conversation that some may want to explore.
We want to be open that specific bad debts functionality isn’t planned for invoices or bills at this time, but we understand the needs here and it’ll continue to remain high on our team’s radar when reviewing and prioritising their roadmap.
With differing product teams and needs for this functionality within invoices and bills…

Invoicing - copy to bill
Give sales invoices the ability to create self-billing contractor bills - the same as billable expenses but for the the sales side, rather than the purchase side. I produce high vol royalties where the suppliers(producers) do not physically bill, but we need to raise the charges directly in line with the sales received. Massively labour intensive and could be fixed with this function.
67 votesHi community, a year on from our last update we understanding wanting to know where this idea is now sitting.
While being able to copy to a bill from within an invoice is still on our product teams radar, with existing capability still available from invoice lists and many opportunities and factors for the team to consider when planning this isn't something we have roadmapped as yet.
Just to re-share from my last update, from the Invoices Draft, Awaiting Approval, Awaiting Payment or Paid lists you can select an invoice and click the Copy to... option in the header to Copy the invoice to a new Bill.
Totally appreciate for some here, having a direct option within an invoice would better suit your workflow and I'll make sure to share if there's any progress, here. Thanks

Xero Accounting app - Ability to send statements from the mobile app
Sending a activity statement or outstanding statement from the mobile app
60 votesHi everyone, thanks for your feedback on sending statements from the mobile app. We appreciate you sharing how important this is for managing your business on the go.
The product team have reviewed this idea and we're updating the status to Accepted, which means it's an idea they would like to explore, but it isn't currently on the roadmap. We'll keep you updated as things progress.

Bill - Copy a paid bill to a Credit Note
Hi,
You can only create credit notes to Invoices or Bills if these aren't marked as paid on Xero, or by creating them as new items from contacts or using upload via Hubdoc.
I think it would be beneficial to allow the creation of credit notes from bills or invoices that are already paid. Very often, there is a requirement for a credit note to be created when the bill/invoice is already paid. Adding the feature to allow creating credit notes based on the information already recorded on paid bills/invoices would save a lot of time in dealing with creating…
122 votesThanks for everyone’s feedback and detail on how important this feature is for your businesses.
To provide a little more clarity here, it’s currently possible to create a Credit note within an individual awaiting payment invoice or bill. This’ll copy the contents of the invoice/bill into a Draft Credit note where you can edit if needed. To save many users time, once approved the credit is auto applied to the related invoice or bill, but you can remove this if not applicable.
We appreciate this feature is not available for a Paid Invoice or Bill and we understand the importance of this for some organisations.
To help our product teams get a better view of the interest for the feature in Bills and Invoices it would help to track these through separate ideas - I’ll change the title of this idea to reflect Bills and we have an existing idea…

eInvoicing: Support for repeating eInvoices
Ability to select e-invoicing for a repeating invoice
104 votesHi everyone, we appreciate that as eInvoicing is adopted by more regions and businesses the appetite for supporting eInvoicing across more of Xero’s features is growing.
Over the coming months our product team will be looking into updates to Xero’s repeat invoices templates and support for eInvoicing within these is something that's on our teams radar. When we get to picking this up and being able to explore this deeper, we’ll keep you updated and share if there are any opportunities to bring you into our discovery.

Sales Invoices - Bulk remove/void
It is all too easy to accidentally upload a batch of sales invoices to Xero from the wrong period. It can then take absolutely hours to delete these as Xero does not have the functionality to remove these en masse.
253 votesHi community, thanks for sharing the challenges you face around deleting invoices.
Right now in Xero, invoices with a Draft status can be deleted in bulk from the list view - simply select the invoices and you’ll see an option to Delete at the top of the list.
We understand that for many in the thread here you’re referring to the ability to bulk remove invoices that have an approved status(bulk void) and I have just updated the title of this idea to better reflect this.
This isn’t a feature we have planned at this stage, but maybe something we explore longer term as a possible enhancement to the list view. For the time being, while not within the product for those with more technical resources there’s capability via our API that you may like to consider.

Repeating Invoices - Schedule a specific time for repeating invoices to be generated and sent
Ability to schedule time for repeating invoices to be generated and sent.
Purpose: To make repeating invoices are generated and sent to the contact/supplier/customer’s preferred time.
127 votesHi everyone, we wanted to share another update here. The ability to schedule and send a one-off invoice at a date and time that works best is now available to all organisations.
You can find this feature in the send window by clicking the dropdown arrow next to the Send email button.
As mentioned in my last update, we understand there’s strong interest in extending this functionality to repeating invoices as well. While this isn’t currently in the pipeline, it’s something our product team will closely consider as they shape the future of repeating invoices in Xero.
I’ll be sure to share any further updates with you here.

Proforma Invoice - Ability to apply part payments before converting to invoices
Ability to create a separate proforma invoice function which allows you to make part payments against the proforma invoice, before being able to convert it to a sales invoice.
Purpose: Users can easily manage part payments before sending their sales invoices to their contacts.
151 votesHi everyone, thanks for continuing to raise your needs in proforma invoicing with us here.
Atm, deposits can only be taken against approved invoices(powered by Stripe), and taking payment against quotes or draft invoices isn’t supported at this point.
We understand that pre-invoice and proforma-style workflows matter for some businesses, especially where payment needs to be secured before the final invoice is raised.
Earlier-stage deposit workflows is something we’re considering for the direction in this space, and we’ll share more here if that progresses further.

Invoicing - Make multiple payments without exiting invoice
Entering multiple payments to an Invoice in Xero. Currently it exits the invoice when you enter a part payment in the payment section. I often want to enter several payments for cash received and card payment received on several days and have to keep going back into the invoice for each payment.
77 votesHi everyone, we appreciate the interest for this idea is growing. Our product teams have reviewed and understand the rational for this.
While it's not something we have roadmapped just yet, I'll make sure to let you know of any news here. Thanks

Sales Invoice - Print each customer's payment term on tax invoice
Does Xero have any plan to put the payment term feature showing on tax invoice in near future? Currently, we setup on each customer record. But the payment term is not printed automatically for each customer. Hope to see this feature soon on all printed invoice.
5 votesApologies for the silence on this one, team. We do want to check-in with you all here.
Printing a customer's specific payment terms directly on the invoice, rather than relying solely on branding themes tied to a contact, is a reasonable ask and one we understand adds clarity for both you and your customers.
Being upfront this isn't currently planned as a dedicated feature, but we're now looking more broadly at extending what invoice documents can display and carry, and being able to clearly display payment terms on the document itself will be looked at as part of that wider piece of work.
We'll update this thread directly if there’s any progress to share.

Credit notes- bulk allocation
Option to apply invoice or bill credits in bulk to invoices
Purpose: To save time from manually allocating invoices one by one.484 votesThanks for sharing your thoughts on bulk allocation of credit notes, everyone. We understand that manually applying credit notes one by one can be time-consuming, and we appreciate wanting a a faster, more streamlined solution.
Currently, while we know it won't be the flow that suits all, it's possible to apply credit notes to multiple invoices for a single contact by opening the credit note and selecting the invoices to apply it to.
Atm, we're in the process of releasing a new experience for Sales Credit Notes. This work will enable us to develop changes like you're asking here longer term. However, the initial release is focused on developing existing features into the new Credit Notes experience. Once this is fully rolled out the team will have more capacity to consider enhancements like bulk allocations, however we want to be upfront that this isn't planned for the short term.
We…

Sales Invoices - Field for Customer's Purchase Order Number
Adding customer’s purchase order number in the sales invoices.
Purpose: because some companies will not pay an Invoice without a PO, so it’ll make users’ workflow easier when they can search #PO to find the right invoice.
214 votesThanks everyone for continuing to support this idea. We appreciate it's been a while since our last post and want to update you here.
We understand how having a dedicated field for a customer purchase order number on sales invoices is important for many of you, whether that’s to meet customer payment requirements, support bulk invoicing, or keep your own internal reference separate.
While we can’t make any commitments at this stage, this is an area our product teams are interested in exploring. We'll make sure to share any progress toward providing a field to accommodate a purchase order number.

Invoices: Repeating Invoices - Bulk Import/Export
Ability to import/export invoices in bulk.
Purpose: It’ll save users time rather than having to create each one individually.
289 votesHi community, we appreciate your feedback here. We understand how valuable bulk actions would be for updating and processing repeating invoices, especially when you're managing changes at scale.
While this work isn’t currently roadmapped, we recognise this as a gap and it’s on our team’s radar as we look at the future of repeating invoices. If there’s any news or progress to share, we’ll be sure to update this idea.
- Don't see your idea?
