Having the ability to upload invoices in the same manner as the recently introduced bill upload would be great addition for those users who run industry POS software that generates sales their invoices and stock and ordering management.

166 votesHi everyone, thanks for your interests and sharing on the idea here. Being totally open, we don't have plans in the near term for any change that'd solve for the idea here. This may be something we consider down the line and will keep the idea here open to continue monitoring.
For the time being, we wanted to share a way you can remove links from the customer statement using a custom branding theme that you'd apply when sending a statement.
Once the new branding theme is created, you can select it when printing or sending the customer statement, and the invoice link will be removed.

Invoices - Show 0% tax on non-taxable items, and correct tax % on taxable items in Invoice preview
In Invoice preview for a non- taxable line item there is a tax rate on the line item. At the bottom where tax is calculated the total tax is correct (it does not include tax on the non-taxable item). It is confusing for a client looking at the invoice, they may think they are being taxed on the non-taxable item. Can invoice preview show 0% tax on the non-taxable item and the correct tax % on the taxable item.
3 votesHi Larina, thanks for raising this point about invoice clarity. We agree that it's really important for customer-facing documents to be as clear and easy to understand as possible to avoid any confusion.
We've reviewed your suggestion to have the Invoice preview explicitly show a 0% tax rate on non-taxable line items, while still showing the correct rate on taxable items. We can see how this would make the invoice breakdown much clearer for your clients.

Statements - Record additional notes sent with statement.
Sending a statement with additional notes in the email. Is there a way to keep record of the additional notes. At the moment you only see under the contact's history and notes that a statement has been sent, but there is no record of the notes that was sent with the statement

New invoicing - Remove option to Edit Item
New Invoicing - Remove the edit button in the item list. It is inconvenient and makes completing an invoice with multiple items harder than the new invoicing already is.
3 votesAppreciate customers use Xero in different ways, Meradene. Want to be open that we don't have any plans to remove this option, but we'll begin to get a sense of the interest of this from the idea here.

Invoicing - Include PDF attachment when emailing invoice
When Xero are emailing out their invoices please can you go back to attaching the invoices as a pdf as it quicker to be able to forward them rather than having to sign in and save them as draft, especially when you are having to do loads for clients.
59 votesThanks for sharing back on this, everyone. We'd like to confirm the way the options works now when sending in new invoicing - This is triggered by previous behaviour.
So, when you send using new invoicing, the selection for 'Attach PDF' is driven by the last invoice you sent. If the last selection was unticked the next invoice you send will automatically be unticked, and vice versa.
What's worth noting is that this is a browser based setting. For example if you change computers or browsers your setting will revert to default where both options are unticked. As you'll see from my recent update on this similar idea this is something we may explore further down the line but we don't have any immediate changed planned for.

Credit Note Discount
Currently there is no discount field on the credit note form which creates a fundamental flaw in the xero system. If you look at the attached invoice report you will notice that all credit note entries have no amounts in the discount column even though they all have discount. This overstates the discount amount when you calculate the total discounts because there are no discount credit amounts to correct the discount. We recommend adding a discount section to the credit notes form to correct this as the report is incorrect without this.

New Invoicing - add "Hide invoice summary in email" option
Despite several separate requests on this forum, New Invoicing's email still begins with an invoice summary, unlike Classic Invoicing.
For us, relationship and communication are more important than asking for payment so Classic Invoicing's email is perfectly set up with our message first and the invoice following.
New Invoicing's email reverses this with the money part writ large at the top.
Andrew Chadwick described it better than I can in the post linked below. The idea has been marked as Delivered but, respectfully, it hasn't been. His and my points still stand.

New Invoicing | Contact - Change default selection on tab from "add new"
Currently trying to use the new invoicing, but I'll start typing a contact name then tab across before seeing the contact pop up, since I use this contact daily. Under the old invoicing, it would just find the contact once I hit tab. Under the new invoicing, a new contact is created. And since the invoice is saved immediately, this new contact is also saved, so once I finish with the invoice, I then need to go and archive the contact that was created.
Can we change the defaults or something to fix this?

Currently our team are working on some improvements to the To field in new invoicing and the contacts card that appears when selecting a contact. We understand some of our customers make use of the keyboard much more than the mouse and in reviewing the flow when using Tab the team will be making a change to make selection of a contact and movement to the date field smoother. I'll come back to confirm the detail of the change when this is released.

Invoicing - Ability to edit /add the reference from the invoice overview page
id love to be able to edit the reference field from the invoice tab. Also the ability to build edit the reference field from the same tab would be helpful. We use that field to know the category the sale is in. So some of our work is shipped, or its to a specific event.

New invoicing - Searching items by start of field
New Invoicing - Type in Item - please change back to only searching start of field, as per old invoicing.
Now that typing in the Item field in the new invoicing brings up every item with that word or part word in anywhere, we either need to learn all the codes, or make sure our items all contain totally different words. It takes ages to find the item required.19 votes -
New Invoicing - Autosave in edit mode
New Invoicing Autosave function - Does not work in Edit Mode
When you create a new invoice the autosave function is there.
However, if you approve an invoice and then try to edit it, then the autosave is not there and you must manually click update.
Can you please make this feature more consistent. Either everything is autosave or not autosave. Invoicing - Ability to turn off auto suggestions
What happend -
I imported invoices with an invalid account number. When I went to review the imported invoices in draft, the new invoicing AI technology selected suggested account codes for me, almost to fast for me to notice the account code was blankWhy this is important -

New Invoicing - one click tracking fill from contact default
On classic invoicing, when you click the account category space or the tracking category it would fill in from the contact default, or account default or some default. But on new invoicing it only fills in if you tab.
12 votesThanks for the added detail, Becky. This is good to know when sharing back with the team. While this may be something we look closer at down the line, I want to be open that we don't have direct change planned in the near term.
Understand it's a few more clicks at present, potentially to save tabbing 8 time clicking on the Tax Rate column and then tabbing once may save a little time atm. Completely get it's not a resolve though.
Account Team - Is it possible that this would be when you're copying an invoice to a new draft invoice? If so, and you select the same Contact defaults aren't automatically applied and you'd need to remove and re-add the contact on the new draft invoice to trigger defaults to be applied. Invoice templates - Prevent past invoices from updating when a template is amended
Amendments to Invoice Templates.
If you make amendment to an Invoice, the amendment should only be applied from the date & time of the amendment & should Not apply the amendment to all your previous Invoices on your records already sent!

Invoices - Show paid date on invoices screen
Put the paid date on the Invoices screen. It would be really nice to have the paid date showing so I wouldn't have to click on the invoice to see when it was paid.

Sales - Ability to 'add payment' to multiple invoices at once
This would be a really helpful time saver. When our clients make payments, sometimes one payment can be for 20 odd invoices. Rather than having to find each individual invoice to add the payment (which involves these steps: click on invoices awaiting payment > search for customer > click on last page > click on invoice > add payment > then repeat all steps 20 times); there are tick boxes next to the invoices, with the options to 'print', 'email', 'copy to'... could an option be added to the tick box, to 'add a payment'? 6 votesHi Emily, it sounds like you could use batch deposit here. This is available from the Awaiting payments list like you noted and will allow you to to record multiple invoices as paid in a single transaction.
It can be useful if you’re banking one deposit for multiple invoices, or when a customer makes a single payment for multiple invoices. 😊
