UK Payroll - Ability to process prior year employment allowance claims through Xero payroll

At the moment this isn't an available feature, and HMRCs basic PAYE tools need to be used. It would be good to see this as an option in Xero.

Hi everyone, thanks for all of your engagement with this idea. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on being able to claim previous year's employment allowances in Xero.

We understand this would save time and provide a more complete payroll solution.

As noted by others in this thread, the current workaround is to process prior year claims using HMRC's Basic PAYE Tools.

We've reviewed our upcoming development roadmap, and at this time building the functionality to process prior year Employment Allowance claims is not in our immediate pipeline.

We will keep this idea under consideration for future development, and should our plans change, we will provide an update here.

    Basic process that needs adding to Xero ASAP!

    The inability to re-submit an EPS is frustrating after any tax month is frustrating - Xero's answer is to use HMRC Basic tools but we are paying for Xero Payroll.

    We use other payroll software that has this facility why doesn't Xero?

    I moved from sage payroll to xero payroll with a previous client and it was as simple as ticking a box on sage, and my client got £4000. I've just failed to log into HMRC basic PAYE tools, so it's feeling especially frustrating.

    How do you claim through Basic PAYE Tools. I'm clueless how to do it as have always relied on Payroll software to sort everything out

    I think being able to apply for past Employment Allowance years.... having to request from HMRC direct seems very clunky!

    It's annoying when you have payroll software, that for somethings you still have to revert back to the HMRC basic tools software to impliment. There have been a few things now that I have found Xero can't perform certain tasks, which defeats the whole point of paying for a payroll package.

    Can't believe this is not a feature within Xero - absolutely a must.

    Please add this as a standard feature because if we revert to use HMRCs Basic PAYE tool for prior year EA claims, it kind of defeats the object of having Xero payroll.

    I will simply go back to Moneysoft for a more simplistic and reliable process of payroll runs

    The ability to resubmit a previous years final EPS submission - in order to resubmit a final EPS for 2021-2022 tax year, we had to use HMRC basic tools to claim Employment Allowance, it would be helpful if this could be done in Xero. Doesn't look good for Xero Payroll if the fall back is HMRC Basic Tools, when clients are paying for Xero Payroll

    I had the same question and was provided with the same answer above.

    HMRC say that some payroll systems simply have a box to tick for the prior year claim and a credit is put against that prior year. It would be a useful option.

    Absolutely - find it amazing it isn't already a feature given how far back some of the requests for this go, it's been years that users have been asking for this fix. Would be great to see it as a feature.
