AU Payroll - Super Payment Authorisation via Xero Verify
I need to be able to approve super when I am travelling and do not have access to text messages. It is most inflexible that there is only one method for doing this! Can the Xero Verify App not be used for auto super approvals too? Then I only need wifi.
Or, can text be received to whatsapp instead?
Hiya team, popping in with an update with payday super changes at the front of everyone's mind.
While we’re continuing to monitor interest in this idea, we don’t have any plans at this stage to change how Xero Verify works to include authorising Super payments.
We appreciate feedback on alternative ways to authorise and wanted to share other ideas you may have interest in supporting and staying updated on:
- Setting up multiple auto super authorisers - currently in discovery
- AU Payroll - Option for Auto Super approval code sent to email instead of phone - currently gaining support

Please tell us exactly what your plans are to fix the SMS only option to authorise super payments. 'Your business supercharged'...only if you are in mobile range....that's not 'Beautiful" it's inconvenient and frustrating.

"we don’t have any plans at this stage to change how Xero Verify works to include authorising Super payments."
A complacent and arrogant statement. I wonder how big the crisis and subsequent exodus for Xero's clients will have to be before they suddenly and desperately do some patch which then fails. -

I don't have access to SMS internationally, it's critical that Xero please provide an a wifi supported alternative.

Having multiple authorisers isn't an option as there is only me and my husband in my business and we travel together. Please have email sent as well as SMS

Being the only person in the office, the SMS option is not going to work for us. I am leaving on an overseas holidays before the end of June where I will not have access to mobile data, only wifi. Yet I will still have to do weekly wages while I am away.
If the option to pay the Super at the end of the month was available, we would be okay. But with now having to submit it within 7 days of payroll, this leaves us unable to meet our legal commitment.
The best option for us as a small business, is to be able to approve it with an Authentication app

Agree with all the comments - another option needs to be available.

Great idea, especially going forward with timing being so important

A authenticator app that works in any country or can be used without internet access would be great to be able to pay super, as we need to pay super every week as of 1 July 2026. There needs to be more options to be able to authenticate whilst overseas or out of mobile range. As a small business the only other option for us is to authorise our accountant. And I am sure the auccountant is busy enough with other work, rather then having to get sms messages for all their clients super obligations.

With Pay Day super coming there needs to be more flexibility for super payment approvals - we have 4 staff members that can potentially approve our actually bank payments for pays, but we have to pick one person to be the super approver, and they need access to their mobile & computer - which is even stricter that our banking requirements.
No flexibility if that person is sick or on leave except to appointing a new person as the approver and then having to remember to switch again for the next pay date?

I am trying to do payroll in a country that doesn't support my sim card. Fortunately, it's not NEXT MONTH yet when it becomes a requirement to pay super at the same time as employees.
1. There's a username and password required to log in.
2. There's then a 2FA Authenticator app check.
3. There's then a second requirement to validate your email to file pay with the ATO.
4. And then for this there's a requirement to have access to your mobile phone network (NOT just your phone) to pay super, which is subject to nearly zero fraud as it only goes into Super accounts!!!This is the silliest security strategy ever.

Hi David,
Thank you for your response dated 26 November 2025.
However, we’ve been raising this issue since November last year, and the initial request dates back to 2023. My post was submitted on 17 November 2025, and your response was on 26 November 2025. Since then, no action or updates have been provided.
Please see the attached screenshots of:

The recent email regarding the upcoming price increaseWe’re concerned that this is still being deferred pending community support or a future meeting. Are we still expected to wait for a community meeting to resolve this?
This is a functional limitation for super payments for business owners managing employee obligations while overseas. What is the barrier to resolving this issue? Options such as sending the authorisation code via WhatsApp, email, or allowing the use of an authenticator app would be far more practical, especially when we are overseas and unable to reliably receive SMS messages.
At the same time, Xero subscription fees have been increasing year after year, and we’ve recently received notice of another price increase coming this July.
Given this, we believe it’s reasonable to expect progress on longstanding issues like this. We would appreciate it if this could be prioritised and resolved by July, in line with the upcoming price increase.
We look forward to your response and a clear timeline for a solution.
Regards. Ali

HI,
With payday super coming in this is really important.
SMS doesn't work if travelling (overseas / coverage issues). Being able to process a payroll (which will now involve super) needs to be able to be done independent of mobile coverage and an SMS. -

I recently had an employee take 2 weeks leave.
Before she had leave, we had to change the super authoriser on 15+ clients just so I could approve super while she was away.
Allowing more than 1 super authoriser is also key, as I don't expect employees to submit super payments while they are on leave, even if it's via an easier method.
Then there's the time of changing the super authoriser back to her when the leave finished. -

I have had clients raise this issue as to what to do if they are away. The issue is not just the method of receiving the authentication number, but if they cannot access their computer, that means they cannot enter the code and the super cannot be paid. There needs to be another way to actually authorise the payment without having to go into Xero on the computer, or be able to have a second authorisor.

We are a few months away from Payday super. SMS can be spam and hence not reliable. A text to WhatsApp, email authorisation or Google authenticator are heaps better while the payroll person is overseas.

Totally agree, this is a really valid point.
It’s incredibly limiting to have only one approval method, especially when you’re travelling or in places where SMS isn’t reliable. A text to WhatsApp, an email authorisation, or the option to use an authenticator app would be much better, especially when we’re overseas. -

Agree with all the comments - give us the option of 2FA app or whatsapp please. Text message only is very limiting

Totally agree , a text to whatsapp or an email to authorise would be better especially when I'm overseas . This would be very important to many businesses
