AU Payroll - timesheet audit trail
Can we have an audit trail on Timesheets, please? If there is a dispute around timesheet entries, changes, submissions, retractions, re-submissions, approvals etc. it would be invaluable to have an audit trail for the employee. the approver and business owner to refer to. I was surprised this didn't exist as both Xero AI and ChatGPT explained how to find it! Sadly Xero Support confirmed this audit trail does not exist.

This is such an important point that we have found Xero lacking as well.
If timesheets are submitted with the 'time from and to' setting then it will show the start and end times the employee puts in and the differences made by payroll however this doesn't allow the employee to select the tracking categories. Employees can only allocate hours to tracking categories when timesheets are in 'Total hours' setting and then there is no record of start/ finish time, break time or changes made by the timesheet approver or payroll.
I feel an amalgamation of the 2 timesheet settings would be ideal where the employee can add example
8:30am - 11:30am tracking category A,
11:30am - 12:30pm unpaid lunch then
12:30pm - 5:00pm tracking category B, -

Hello Xero - we definitely need an audit trail with timesheets - we need to be able to see all changes made, and we need to be able to copy all submissions by employees as when they re-submit an already submitted timesheet the original submission is deleted and no copy kept....this would be of the greatest support to deal with discrepancies and unbecoming behaviour......as stated by Shelley Maine AI are advising that an audit trail for timesheets is available!!!!

Would be very useful to have timesheet history at the bottom of the timesheets, for audit purposes

As an employer, I have many "discussions" with employees who advise me that they did not get paid on the pay cycle. We have a documented "cut-off" for all timesheets to be submitted, so that the pay run can be finalised and pay's "paid" to all employees. This is a crucial bit of information that employers must have access to......

Add an automated time record of the time that the timesheet entry was recorded. We can then ensure that our team are entering their timesheets throughout the day as they work on files.
