Payroll - Include Employee group category on the employee list
Xero has discontinued to display tracking category in the employee list - This means I now need to run a report to receive this information which will make processing pays longer so it's no longer a smooth process. I would like to see a return for this feature. Thank you.
43 votesHi again everyone 👋 happy to pop back in and share that Employee Group has been added back to the Employee List for AU organisations in Xero payroll.
Thanks for sharing how this feature helps your workflows and use of Xero, here.

UK Payroll - Schedule wage payments
Whilst the new Payroll Payment feature in Xero is welcome, being unable to schedule the payments for a future date sadly means we will need to continue manually inputting the salaries via our bank. We pay our staff on the last working day of the month. This feature only allows payment via faster payment, so I will always need to be available on the last working day of the month to post the payrun. I would normally process the salaries a few days before the last working day then set them up to be paid in a few days time.…
15 votesHi team, it's great to hear your feedback on payroll payments. I'm happy to share an update that we have now rolled out scheduled payment capability to all UK Payroll orgs.
That said, there are some banks that do not support scheduled payments, and we'd recommend checking with your bank to see if they do. Thanks again for sharing back with us here.

AU Payroll: Superannuation > standardised payment date aligned with PayDay Super
In Pay Template change the options for super due dates to coincide with payday super requirements
16 votesHiya team, thanks for all your contributions here. We'd like to provide an update - as you'll know Payday Super came into affect from 1st July and we have released some changes to help you work with Payday Super in Xero.
You can read up about the key changes and find more help on how things work in Xero Central.
One of these key changes is making it easy to pay super straight after each pay run, and make paying super part of your normal pay run routine. From 1st July, all new super contributions only show the pay run's payment date.
We've also added a new auto super overview page, where you can identify and pay outstanding super liabilities, with better visibility of at risk super payments and notifications. 🙂
Thanks again for engaging with us on this in Xero Product Ideas. If you have other ideas of how…

AU Payroll - Show Daily totals on timesheets
On the new timesheet format, the daily totals have been removed. I am requesting that this be re-instated. This is important for tracking multiple jobs and overtime on a daily basis for both payroll and client billing purposes. It is much less prone to input error by the user to be able to see the total hours on a daily basis, rather than a pay run basis (weekly).
Thank you.2 votesHi Kristen,
Thanks for pointing out that the new timesheet experience was missing daily hour totals.
Our product team has been reviewing a range of feedback and has restored the daily totals. Thank you for sharing your valuable input with us!

AU Payroll - Fast click Superannuation directly from payrun
Could you please consider adding the feature of adding and processing auto superannuation payments from each finalised payrun (eg button next to "File" that would prefil the contributions in the payrun and further to authorisation). A number of clients are asking for a payday super feature, and adding this feature directly from the payrun will minimise the number of "clicks" and processing time. This also would be a hot topic if moving to compulsory payday super.
39 votesHi everyone — thanks for your feedback on making superannuation payments directly from a posted pay run.
We’ve recently released an update that lets you start a super payment directly from a posted pay run. After you post the pay, select the Make payment dropdown and choose Pay superannuation to jump straight to creating your super payment.
You can find general guidance on paying super here: Process automatic superannuation payments.
We appreciate your input, it helps us keep improving the payroll experience.

Payroll AU: KB shortcut to tab through earning rates when completing timesheets
Ability to hit tab when selecting the Earnings Rate in Timesheets.
1 voteHi Ang, thanks for sharing this. We've recently released a new UI for Xero Timesheets, which we're currently rolling out to all users.
The new experience allows various new keyboard shortcuts. While the classic version only allowed you to tab between days, the new version enables you to complete your entire timesheet using just the keyboard.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Your insights are key to helping us drive positive changes like this!

Pricing Plans - Keep Payroll accessible from the Ignite and Grow plans
I currently pay for the Standard Plan (15/month) plus Payroll (5/month) and use it for 2 payroll users.
Under the newly unveiled pricing plans my business has been completely shafted.
In order to use Payroll at all, I need to upgrade to the new Grow plan (33/month), already an increase of 13/month. But on top of that, that isn't even enough because you're restricted this plan to only 1 payroll user. So actually I have to jump all the way to the second from top plan which is the Comprehensive at 47/month.
This is a complete joke.
This shift in…
83 votesHi team, sorry a little late off the mark updating you all here. We'd like to confirm that, the changes mentioned in my last post are now live and implemented across existing and for any new customers adding an organisation or moving plans.
In UK you can now add individual employees to Payroll on Ignite, Grow, and Comprehensive plans for £1.50 per employee per month (Ultimate will remain at £1). For Australia payroll is once again included in all Xero business plans, offering more choice and flexibility when it comes to paying yourself and employees, and making it easier to keep up with compliance obligations. On Xero Ignite plan you can pay one person(as you could with Starter), and two people on Xero Grow (as you could on Xero Standard). You can also process automated super payments on both plans.
We appreciate the importance of flexibility in payroll to our…

NZ Payroll - Restrict which earnings rate an employee can select in timesheets
when using Xero Me in New Zealand to create timesheets, can only the assigned pay rates in the pay template be made available for the employee to choose from or create the self category to show the pay rates the employee has assigned, and team to show remaining like the Australian version of Xero does. Having to manually check employees have selected the correct pay rate on their time sheet every week is time wasted.
1 voteHey all! I'm pleased to announce that we’ve officially rolled out an update to improve the accuracy of your employees' timesheets.
Employees are now restricted to selecting only the pay items that have been added to their Pay Template. This change ensures that timesheet entries remain consistent with their payroll setup.
Please take this opportunity to audit your employees' Pay Templates. If a specific earnings rate or pay item is missing from a template, the employee will be unable to select it when submitting their timesheets.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for providing the feedback.

NZ Payroll - Annual Leave option to add in Days instead of hours
Would be easier for employees & team leaders approving leave if annual leave is able to be requested in days and half days. Or to have the option to select either days or hours when requesting annual leave through the Xero Me app.
It's the most common complaint I hear from our employees that it would be way easier if they could just put in 1 day instead of working out the hours they want to take off.
30 votesHi all, thanks for your patience with this. We've now rolled out this feature to 100% of NZ Payroll organisations.
If you haven't yet, you'll be able to convert your employees leave to be calculated and displayed in Days. Take a look at our support article on how to manage this change.
Thanks for your continued support and letting us know what matters most.

AU Payroll - Set up multiple auto super authorisers
Having multiple people as a Super Authoriser would be helpful when the 1st person goes on leave.
627 votesHi everyone 👋 I’m pleased to share that greater flexibility in selecting an authoriser is now available to all AU organisations with Xero Payroll.
Your feedback has been valuable in helping us understand the different circumstances in which greater flexibility is needed, particularly now that Payday Super is in effect. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this idea.
You can now nominate a list of eligible authorisers when setting up auto super or editing an existing registration. Each super payment still requires approval from one person, but you can select which nominated authoriser receives the SMS code for that payment.
Find out more about setting up and selecting an authoriser in Xero Central
We recognise that other requests raised in this thread go beyond this update, including dual approval or quorum workflows, alternative approval methods such as Xero Verify and broader permission changes.
Please submit separate ideas for any…

UK Payroll - Employee birthday report
Would be really useful to be able to run a report of employee’s birthdays.
15 votesThanks for sharing your desire for a report which includes the employees' DOB.
I wanted to let you know that we've released an updated Employee Contact Details report which includes multiple new columns including DOB and age.
Thanks for your continued feedback, this helps shape the future of Xero.

AU Payroll - Two employees on Grow plan, or the ability to tack on employees
The new Grow subscription only allowing for one employee is really tough for accountants operating in the micro-business space, as many of the small businesses that I have been working to get onto Xero are either married couples or two business partners who need exactly two payroll employees, with no intention to grow beyond that number.
Having to jump from Grow to Comprehensive just to add a payroll user is prohibitive for a lot of my clients, and knowing that this is the case is stopping me from recommending Xero as a product where it would have been a no-brainer…
7 votesThanks for sharing your thoughts with us here, community. We know this is important to you and are pleased to share based on feedback we made some changes.
Payroll is now included in all new business plans (Ignite, Grow and Ultimate). You'll be able to pay one person on Ignite, and two people on the Grow plan.
I want to confirm that these changes are now all live and available for you to make use of. See more of this on our blog.

NZ Payroll - Show leave balances on payslip in days and hours
Annual leave needs to be able to be shown in days/hours on payslips and not in weeks as it is very hard and confusing for the employees to work out exactly what their leave balances are. It also makes it very confusing when you are trying to work out if they are actually entitled to leave when doing the payroll as their leave could be in the negatives, but the accrued dollars show otherwise
3 votesHi all, I wanted to let you know what we recently released an update to all NZ payroll organisations which allows you to have leave calculate in Days and Weeks.
Once you've converted your employees leave balances to Days and Weeks the balances will show on future payslips as Days.

Hi Luping Zhang, it looks like you're interested in adding UnionPay as a payment service to Xero. While we don't have a direct integration you could look to set this up as a custom URL. We have some information on how you can go about this on Xero central.

UK Payroll - Employee Contact Details
Payroll Employee Contact Details would be good to see a column for terminated employee showing date left and employee number
2 votesHi everyone, we recently rolled out an enhanced Employee Contact Details report.
This new report includes additional columns such as DOB, Start & Termination dates, and Employment Groups.
We hope this report helps you with managing your workflows.
Thanks again for supporting this idea and being the voice of change.

AU Payroll - Information on setting up a novated lease for an employee
Can you please post up instructions on how business owners can setup novated leases for their employees and also identifying the process where the vehicle is FBT exempt or subject to FBT. We have had a few of our clients ask why Xero doesn't provide much guidance regarding this issue.
7 votesThanks again for sharing your feedback on this with us, Carmen, and to others that have since supported this idea.
I'm pleased to share based on your feedback we've added a new article to Xero Central to help customers understand how they can record novated leases in Xero.

NZ Payroll - Record sick leave as days
We need sick leave to be recorded in days to line up with current NZ payroll legislation. 10 days sick leave. The current settings in hours only work for people who work the same hours on the same days. Anyone with variable hours or different hours on different days this does not work and manual accrual needs to be kept outside of payroll. Then leave balances need to be manually adjusted which is a lot of work. This has been an issue for many many years and would be good to get fixed.
13 votesHi all, thanks for your patience with this. We've now rolled out this feature to 100% of NZ Payroll organisations.
If you haven't yet, you'll be able to convert your employees leave to be calculated and displayed in Days. Take a look at our Support article on how to manage this change.
Thanks for your continued support and letting us know what matters most.

UK Payroll - List contacts in alphabetical order, by Surname
It would help if the list of emplyees were sorted in alphabet order, by Surname.
8 votesHi everyone, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on the order employees are listed.
We’ve recently updated the Employee list page so you can now sort employees by multiple fields, including surname, employee number, and email address, and other columns. This should make it easier to find and review the employees you need in the order that best suits your workflow.
Thank you again for your feedback and for helping us continue to improve Xero Payroll.

NZ Payroll - Tracking in the Payroll journal
Add tracking into the payroll journal. We are wanting to record salary costs in the different departments we have set up

AU Payroll - Ability to apply tracking categories to superannuation
We have grant funding so wages as well as super needs to be applied with the tracking code to acquit grant correctly. Presently, there is no availability to apply tracking codes against the superannuation, as well it is only available through timesheets for the wages.
It would be very helpful if tracking codes could be applied directly with pay items in employee template (similarly like other software) so this can be applied when leave is taken also35 votesHi everyone, apologies for the delay in providing an update here. We appreciate the feedback on having Super and Leave to be automatically allocated to payroll tracking.
In May 2025 we released an update to all AU payroll organisations which extends Employee Group tracking to Leave and Superannuation transactions.
This means that going forward Leave and Superannuation costs will be differentiated by tracking categories.
We hope this change helps you manage your overall expenses. Thanks for supporting this idea and paving the way for the future.
