Practice Manager - Relationship Type
Can we please have a general Relationship Type option for relationships such as "family" or "associate"/ partners. This would be for general family relations like siblings, cousins, in-laws etc.
Hi everyone, thanks for sharing the different types of relationships you'd like to be able to track in Practice Manager.
While we're making a lot of improvements to Clients with the new unified experience, we want to be upfront that developing more custom relationships like you're after here isn't on our roadmap.
We'll continue to monitor and track the interest of this idea for future planning, and if there's any change to the status of this one, we'll let you know here.

Hi all. Implementation partner here. This comment does not help anyone out immediately with the requested types mentioned but adding context here for anyone interested and importantly Xero product which this is more directed at.
XPM is a global product across regions. From accessing XPM accounts in AU and NZ, relationship types are all the same options. i.e. stemmed from the early days of when XPM was established in NZ back 2012/13.
Unit Trusts aren't something we come by as much in NZ but when they do we have the same issue with not being able to add 'Unit Holder' relationships.
"Family" relationship type would allow for solving siblings or other family (where different to the current relationship types available 'Spouse', 'Parent Of', 'Child Of'). Have had this come up a lot with practices.
Lawyer (or Solicitor) however you call it, is something that often comes up but often dealt with by client contacts instead.
I have had others mentioned in the past but can't recall, it isn't a large list though. When migrating large practices from other systems like MYOB and APS we end up either (A) dropping obscure relationships that are not available e.g. (Lawyer, Family, Unit Holder etc), or B) use the next most appropriate option e.g. "Associate" just to get the relationship in the system.
@Xero Product, according to most of the relationship types mentioned here, they would all be applicable to NZ and AU regions so it would seem less likely that your teams need to factor in regional based updates.

Please! This is important to have this relationship! It's not a 'custom' relationship it's a gosh dang basic type of entity! Please listen to your users!

WTH?? At least unitholder is vital. How hard can it be?

Please can we have Unitholder, Spouse/Defacto, Executor, Sibling.
Especially with Unit holder, why give the option to set up a unti trust but not provide the relationship to match. -

Please give us Unit Holder as a relationship so when we have Unit Trusts the relationship is correct - Unitholder not Shareholder

We'd like to see Unitholder added as a relationship type. This is a common structure for our clients and being able to track it in Practice Manager would be really valuable for us.

Interesting that you have Auditor but not Lawyer. We are very keen to have Executor added

It would be great if Xero Practice Manager could include a Unit Holder relationship type. At the moment, we can record shareholders, partners, and directors, but not unit holders -which makes it tricky when managing clients with unit trusts.
Adding Unit Holders would make it much easier to keep client relationship info complete and consistent without having to track it separately.

I would add to this that it would be great to be able to create custom relationship types, as every firm has unique preferences/requirements. For us, I would find a sibling/cousin relationship helpful, as the family structure can get quite confusing in this day and age with different surnames/parents/ etc

yes - even the vague relationship "associate of" is helpful so we know there is a relationship between entities

Superannuation Funds need "Members" relationship. I'm surprised that this isn't an option already. Or make "Beneficiary" available as an option like it is for trusts.
Also to be able to add custom relationships could be good.

Can we please have a relationship type for 'Bookkeeper of'.
We have third party bookkeepers who act for several clients and it would be useful to add them as a contact and associate them as the clients bookkeeper. -

Would be good to have a custom option to add any kind of relationship we need to e.g. siblings / in-laws etc

This is important to our practice as family members often refer one another, and it is also useful for staff not familiar with clients.

I'd also like to add: Successor Director for Companies and Successor Appointer for Trusts.

Unfortunately, Xero is going down the path of not listening to the end user whilst ever increasing prices. Maybe you need to poach someone from BGL to get better functionality in your program.
