  1. To have the ability to record odometer readings, start, finish & business/private use.
Then automatically apportion the business use component against vehicle expenses.

For instance the Australian rules require 12 weeks minimum of logbook entries. More entries = more accuracy.

This could also be a great feature to 'sell' XERO to new customers.

Thanks for sharing your idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you Duncan. At the moment , the best option is to look for a connected app that allows you to achieve this. You can check out our Xero App Store. If you need further assistance, we'd recommend raising a case with our support team as well. We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

Along with votes, other members can now comment to share additional detail about how your idea could improve their experience with Xero.

  2. Xero Tax no longer supports management expenses (eg for investment companies), which are a common requirement. This used to work fine. The workaround recommended by Xero Support is to incorrectly include management expenses as operating / trading expenses, then make them disallowable and include them separately as a management expense. This mess is all visible on the CT600 and needs fixing.

Thanks for raising this idea with us, and for clearly explaining the impact it has on your workflow. 🙂

We understand the need for Xero Tax to better support management expenses for investment companies, especially where the current workaround creates confusing or incorrect presentation on the CT600.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can track interest from the community and help our product team better understand the value of improving this area.

If others are affected by this as well, it would be helpful to hear more examples of how this impacts your filings and any risks or extra work it creates for your practice.

If there are any updates or plans made around this, we’ll share them here.

  3. Can XPM/Xero tax add a scheduled send feature? So that we can schedule tax returns/BAS returns to be sent at a set time and day to the client for signing? Content snare, Outlook etc all have these features and its very much missing from XPM.

Hi Jackie, thanks for bringing this idea forward.

We understand you’re looking for an option to schedule tax return emails for signing, so client communications can be sent at a time that works best for your practice and clients.

Having more control over when signature requests are delivered could help practices manage busy tax periods more efficiently.

We’ll continue to track feedback and interest from the community for this idea. Please keep sharing your workflows and use cases here.

  4. We have set up tracking categories in xero - one for Land & property and one for Self employment. I want to be able to import the data in to their tax return. I normally generate on xero tax the xero sole trader accounts to then be able to import these into the tax return. However, when i do the sole trader accounts, it pull through all information - L&P & SE. I only want the SE bit so i can add this to the SE section on the tax return. I have asked xero support if there is a…

Thanks for sharing this idea. We appreciate you explaining how filtering sole trader account data by tracking category could support your tax preparation workflow.

As you've mentioned, tracking categories will be utilised to support multiple businesses for MTD for IT, however this isn't available with Xero Tax for sole trader accounts preparation.

  5. Xero Tax currently doesn't have the functionality to separately display non-current assets and current assets as distinct sections on the face of the balance sheet. The software is presenting all debtors (including the deferred tax asset) under the current assets section, with the split between current and non-current amounts shown only in the notes.

Whilst FRS 102:4.4A states that in most cases it's sufficient to disclose amounts due after more than one year in the notes, in our recent case we identified that we had a material item that requires separate disclosure on the face of the balance sheet to…

Thanks for raising with us here, Nyima.

Appreciate the need you've shared on being able to show a material item separately on the face of the balance sheet.

It'd be good for us to get a better capture the impact this has for other practices here. For yourself and others coming across the idea, it would be great to hear further examples of any compliance or presentation needs you have in this feature, particularly where material items need separate face-of-balance-sheet disclosure rather than note-only disclosure. If there's any plans made around this we will share here.

Hi Alex , we appreciate your feedback on how a dedicated CGT Event Summary report could make it easier to review and reconcile complex capital gains activity during tax prep.

Having a single report to view CGT events and supporting calculations could help reduce the need to work across multiple schedules and asset records. We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can track interest and share the feedback with our product teams.

  9. Our understanding is that it should not be necessary to amend the year-end date at Companies House in order to file an accounting period that falls within −7/+7 days of the year end, as doing so would constitute an extension of the accounting period, which we would prefer to avoid.

At present, Xero does not support this scenario, nor does it offer an alternative recommended approach. It would therefore be helpful if Xero could address this limitation.

The only workaround we can see available is to change the year-end date to the 30th or 31st where it is not already…

Thanks for sharing your idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you. We appreciate you highlighting the importance of having flexibility when filing within the acceptable Companies House range without amending the official year-end date.

  10. When using the new Xero Beta FRS102 IA module based in Xero blue, You can lock the accounts to be sent for signature. But this is not reflected in the Xero Company accounts and tax module on Xero HQ, where the lists of what has and hasn't been done for workflow is kept. It seems to continue to show in progress in the status bar as well. This is important for maintaining Audit trails of who does the review and when things can be sent out.
The final review on the CT600 is still there.

Thank you for raising the idea Francisca. We are still exploring the idea of introducing a review process directly within Company Accounts. However, we do plan to display much more about which team member has performed certain actions and when though to create a more visible audit trail throughout the product.

We have moved this Idea to Gaining Support so others can vote and comment and we can gauge the community interest.

  11. Company business structure tax returns should pull the physical address to the Dividends and Interests schedule, instead of the Postal address. It is not correct to put a PO Box or postal address in the schedule and you are not able to update the address field.

Currently only Partnership tax returns will pull the physical address to the Dividends and Interests schedule.

Hi Julie, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand that having company details flow through to tax schedules automatically would help reduce repeated data entry when completing returns.

We hear the request for the company physical address to pre-fill into the Dividends and Interest schedule, so you don’t need to manually enter the information.

We’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can track interest and help our product teams understand the value of improving data flow between company details and tax schedules.

Hi Mary, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand that having quick access to client details while working in Tax Manager would help make workflows smoother.

For now, opening the practice client list in a separate tab can help with switching between views. We’ve moved this to Gaining Support so we can track interest and help our product teams understand the value of improving navigation between these areas.

  13. Make it possible to claim Land Remediation relief against profits. Should be a simple box addition to the existing form layout. Similar to how R&D currently is where you can claim against profits but not claim the credit when in a loss position.

This idea has now moved into gaining support 📌. At the moment, the current method is still to handle this manually while direct support is being worked on.

Thank you for raising this idea with us. We really appreciate the input, as it helps us better understand where changes may be needed and where future improvements could have the most impact. Feedback like this is valuable in helping inform meaningful product changes over time.

  14. I have a number of Trust clients where we expect an assessment. The ATO takes a LONG time to issue these, so I think it would be good to have a similar Notice of Assessment flag like we do for individuals, so we can see which are still outstanding.
Not all trusts have assessments but we should be able to trigger this by the question on the front page of the return about whether the trustee has tax payable.

Hi Vicki, we understand how having assessment tracking for Trust returns, similar to NOA tracking for Individual returns, could help monitor outstanding assessments.

We appreciate the suggestion to use existing return indicators, like trustee tax payable, to help surface tracking statuses automatically.

We’ll continue to track the interest and feedback shared here.

  15. Add functionality to merge client accounts used to access previously signed returns (via portal.xero.com). This would ensure that when a client updates their email address, their full record of signed tax returns remains intact and accessible through a single login with the new email. This eliminates the need to log in with multiple accounts to view the complete history of signed returns.

  16. Xero Tax pulls in the dates for the accounts from Companies House and assumes that the dates for the tax return will be the same. This might not always be the case - my example is due to the leap year causing problems

I filed returns to Companies House and HMRC to include 29 Feb as the guidance suggested using my previous software. This was all accepted fine but now I am unable to file a CT600 using Xero tax because Companies House have the year starting on 29 Feb but HMRC have it on 1 Mar.

  19. We enter company number, company UTR number, director name when setting up client but why does this not get processed when preparing the company accounts and tax. We need to enter the company number, Company UTR number, Companies House authorisation code and director signing the return every time we want to use XERO tax. Surely there must be a way to simplify this so entering this information every time is a thing of the past.

Appreciate you raising this idea about tracking time on returns within Xero Tax, Neil. It’s something that can make a difference for teams trying to manage capacity or reflect on the actual effort behind each return.

This idea is now sitting in the gaining support stage, which means it’s open for others in the community to engage with. As more votes and comments come through, it helps the product team see where this functionality might be most impactful and what specific outcomes users are looking for.

If there’s a particular reporting format, integration, or manual workaround you’re currently using to track this, sharing that in the comments could be really helpful. It adds valuable context and helps show how this could tie into existing practice workflows.
