MTD for IT - Tax report available for client as well as Accountant
The new Xero MTD area only shows the Tax report if you are a main agent.
As a supporting agent we are the person responsible for quarterly bookkeeping and MTD returns but can't share that really useful data with the client.
1 voteThanks for sharing this idea. I am happy to say this is already supported for MTD for Income Tax.
When an accountant or bookkeeper connects Xero to HMRC on behalf of a client using their Agent Services Account (ASA), the client can then access their own MTD for Income Tax information in the Xero organisation by completing their own MTD for Income Tax registration using their Government Gateway details and having the required user permissions. For setup guidance, see Set up MTD for Income Tax in Xero. but if you need an extra hand you can raise a case with our Xero Support specialists. 😊

Manual Journals list - Quick link to access posted journal
The "View Manual Journal" link no longer appears in the new manual journal screen when you post a journal (as per the screenshot attached). This was a very useful feature in the old format which myself and my colleagues have been using on a regular basis, as it makes it really easy to go back and edit a journal you just posted rather than having to look for it.
It would be great to bring it back in the new version please.3 votesHi there 👋, appreciate your feedback and hearing how you find this a useful feature.
This is actually still available within the new version, however the toast will appear in the bottom left of the screen rather than above the list. I've included a screenshot for your reference. 🙂

Keep Draft Manual Journals as Draft
Draft journals should remain drafts and should not be included in financial reports until they are posted.
Including draft journals in reports is confusing because the report appears to reflect accounting entries that have not actually been posted to the ledger. I recently spent time trying to figure out what I had done months earlier, only to discover that the journal affecting the report was still sitting in Draft
If an entry is still being reviewed, adjusted, or simply parked as a draft, it shouldn't affect the reported financials or account transaction reports. Once the journal is posted, then it…
5 votesThanks for sharing this feedback. We want to clarify that draft manual journals don't flow through to financial reports or account balances. The journal remains separate from your financial records while it's in Draft status and only affects reporting after it has been posted.
If you're experiencing something different, please share a little more detail about the journal and report involved by reacting to this update.

Manual Journal - Toggle off cash basis reporting by default
Please change the manual journals layout back to the original permanently and not make me switch this very day. The new version takes up too much space and it is a lot harder to navigate. I suspect whoever designed this does not spend anytime actually entering journals. Another key issue is to have the show journal on cash basis reports unticked as the default. Journals by default are generally not cash movements. Thank you
32 votesHi everyone, appreciate all the engagement here so far. Just to clarify, the ability to set default for the Show manual journals on a cash basis option is already available in Xero.
From the Manual Journals list, you can turn Show manual journals on a cash basis on or off. This sets the default for new journals in that organisation, while individual journals can still be changed when needed.
This feature is currently available in the US, AU and NZ only, with plans to roll it out to other regions soon. You can keep track of the rollout on this idea.

MTD for IT - Clients to be able to add multiple tax payers in Xero themselves
It's great that, as a Xero Partner, we can add multiple taxpayers to the same Xero licence for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. This is particularly beneficial for situations such as husband and wife property owners who each hold a 50% share of a property.
However, not all clients choose to have their accountant manage their MTD submissions. For those who prefer to handle their own compliance, it can be frustrating that a second taxpayer cannot currently be added directly by the client within Xero.
Allowing clients to add and manage additional taxpayers themselves would be a valuable enhancement.…
4 votesThanks for sharing your idea! Multiple taxpayers can already use MTD for Income Tax in the same Xero organisation.
To add another taxpayer:
- Invite them into the Xero organisation so they can access it using their own Xero login.
- Once they’ve accepted the invitation, they need to sign up for MTD for Income Tax and complete their own onboarding in Xero, connecting their own HMRC account.
Our Add multiple taxpayers for MTD for Income Tax article explains this under Small business users. 😊

Filter Account transaction on Account TypesAccount Transactions - Filter report data by Account Types
When running the account transactions for a nominal ledger, have a quick filter option for 'Account types' as shown in the Chart of Accounts (Revenue, Fixed Assets, Direct Costs etc.)
When running the nominal reports for P&L codes I have to manually select/ deselect codes.
2 votesHi Connor, the ability to filter Account Transactions report by Account Type is already available in Xero. In the Account Transactions report, use Filter to select account types such as Revenue, Expense or Assets.
You can also use Group/Summarise to organise the results by Account Type.
As this meets the request, we’ve updated the status to Existing Functionality and closed the idea for voting. If I've misunderstood you, feel free to reach out.

interest on MTD
The Mapping on the MTD report currently maps Bank Interest to other property income. This is incorrect as this is not property income at all. This should eb re-mapped so it either does not feature on the MTD filing or appears for review on the Interest tab
1 voteThanks for raising this idea with us Mike, Im happy to say that you can already do this in Xero! You can remap account codes in MTD for IT by going to Tax → MTD for Income Tax → Income and expenses, selecting the relevant tax category, and choosing Manage report codes. Select the accounts you want to update, choose the appropriate report code, and click Map. For more information, see Set up MTD for Income Tax in Xero. But if you need an extra hand you can raise a case with our Xero Support specialists. 😊

Balance Sheet Tracking Categories
Xero has tracking categories for Profit & Loss reporting.
Our single entity charity uses tracking categories to produce a profit and loss report by fund where the fund type is an option within a fund category.
We need the same for the balance sheet to produce a balance sheet report by fund on an ongoing basis.
For example, income and expenditure transactions on a bank account can be tracked, but not the bank account balance itself. Ditto for liability accounts etc.
This would also need a tracking option/field on manual journals.3 votesThanks for raising this and Im happy to say this functionality is already available in Xero. You can use tracking categories and options to report on your Balance Sheet by fund, in addition to using tracking for Profit and Loss reporting.
To view the Balance Sheet by fund:
- Set up your fund type as a tracking category, with each fund as a tracking option.
- Ensure the relevant transactions are assigned to the appropriate fund.
- Open the Balance Sheet report and use the tracking filter to select the required fund.
When creating a manual journal, you can also select the relevant tracking category and option on each journal line. This allows the journal entries to be included in reporting for the appropriate fund. Tracking is also available when importing manual journals using the tracking fields.
Please note that some system accounts, such as bank, accounts receivable and accounts payable accounts, may…

Reports - Voided invoices have a currency value on the Receivable Invoice Summary
It could be a glitch or just how the reports work, but Voided Invoices that were voided with a currency value in them, appear on the Receivable Invoice Summary with that value. So Invoice INV-45831 was for £123.00 but was voided. You can now no longer edit that invoice and in this report it eternally has the value of £123.00.
This is an issue as the data is downloaded to extrapolate many different analysis for sales data.
A bad fix after the data has been downloaded is to try filter and take out the ££ and change the data after…
1 voteHi Sally, thanks for your feedback and sorry it's taken so long to come back to you here. While Voided invoices are included in the Receivable Invoice Summary report, you can add a filter within the report for Status to only include those that you'd want to see in the reports results. This way you could leave Voided unchecked.
To save you having to set the report up each time you could then save the report as custom.

Aged receivables summary - Add due date
Could we please add the 'Due Date' option to the Aged Receivables Summary Report. I love the simplicity of this report versus the Detailed report but unlike the detailed report, there is no option to add the due date.
1 voteHi Jodi, sincere apologies for not rounding back to you here. I appreciate your feedback and would like to confirm that it is possible to achieve what you're after using the Receivable Invoice Summary report.
In this report you'll be able to set whatever date range you'd like to view, and select all 8 columns that are shown in the Awaiting Payments tab of the Invoice list (the only detail that is not possible to add is viewing if the invoice was sent).
You can also add a Filter for Status and select Approved to only see invoices that are awaiting payment. 🙂

VAT - Ability to track late claims for Non-MTD filing orgs
Track late claims on VAT returns submitted in Xero but not filed direct to HMRC through MTD.
This is needed in order for VAT groups to be able to prepare returns in non-submitting companies which can then be consolidated.
The only alternative if the VAT group stays on Xero is to run journal reports and manually find late claims, in all non-submitting entities in a VAT group, which is a very manual process.
7 votesThanks for sharing this idea ⭐
Xero already supports late claims in Non-MTD VAT returns. Once a previous return has been finalised, transactions entered later that relate to that earlier period are automatically included in the next VAT return.
To access this:
- Open the Non MTD VAT return and review the Transactions by VAT box or Transactions by tax rate tab to check the late claims included.
- For more information, see Prepare a non-MTD VAT return.
If we’ve misunderstood the request and you’re looking for additional functionality, such as identifying or reporting late claims across multiple non-submitting companies in a VAT group, please reply with more information and an example of the workflow you need.

UK VAT Return - Separate columns for Invoice number and reference
Could the VAT transactions report in the VAT return include the invoice number as well as or instead of the reference?
This would make the review to see if there are any missing invoice numbers much simpler. Our invoices are created in another software package by a number of people who sometimes include text as well as the invoice number and it makes sorting by numerical order time consuming. Having the invoice number as a field would make it very easy to sort in numerical order and identify missing numbers.
10 votesThis is already possible within Xero. When a Sales Invoice is included in the VAT return, under the Transactions by VAT box the Invoice number will appear under the Reference column. If the transaction is a Receive Money transaction there is no entry under the Reference column. If you need an extra hand you can raise a case with our Xero Support specialists. 😊
