Reports - Common date for next month
When reviewing reports (e.g., Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet), we often need to view monthly data from the start of the fiscal year up to the current month. Right now, we have to manually select the first and last day of each month every time, which is time-consuming and repetitive. This makes simple tasks like flicking through months to verify data more cumbersome than necessary.
- Add “Previous Month” / “Next Month” buttons These buttons would auto-update the report’s date range to the previous or next full month.
Example: From May 1 – May 31, clicking "Next" moves the report to June 1 – June 30.
- Introduce a Month-Year dropdown selector
Quick selection of a specific month and year (e.g., “June 2025”) that auto-fills the start and end dates for that month.
Great for users who review cumulative performance month by month.
Thanks for submitting your idea on Xero Product Idea's, Jessica. We appreciate you taking your time to share changes that would be most meaningful to you.
We don't have any plans for adding more common date options in reports atm, but we'll begin to get a feel of the interest in this from your idea.

To streamline the process of reviewing monthly reports like Profit & Loss or Balance Sheets, it’s helpful to set up a dynamic date selection that automatically defaults to the common date for the next month. This way, you can quickly generate reports from the start of the fiscal year up to the current month without manually selecting the first and last day each time, saving both time and effort. Implementing such a feature improves efficiency when flicking through months to verify data and ensures consistency across reports. For a practical example of using dynamic planning and schedules in systems, you can refer to guides like Seattle Light Rail Guide https://seeingwashington.com/seattle-light-rail-guide/ which demonstrate user-friendly date navigation and planning features in transit apps.

Implement a new drop-down menu for "Date range" that provides a comprehensive, itemised list of common time periods rather than selecting the date range from a pre-populated calendar, very time consuming especially for accountants.
Problem: The current date range selection for reports is not fully itemised.
Proposed Solution: Add a drop-down menu with a comprehensive, itemised list of date ranges. This menu should include options for:
Financial Year: Last financial year (e.g., 01/07/2024 to 30/06/2025) , This financial year to date , This financial year.
Financial Quarter: This financial quarter to date , This financial quarter , Last financial quarter , and Next financial quarter.
Monthly: This month to date , This month , Last month , and Next month.
Other: Today and Custom.
Benefit: This change would make it faster and easier for users to select common time periods, improving the usability of the generated reports such as the Activity Statement.
