Manual Journals - Journal entry number listed
On the list of manual journals, the journal entry number should be listed, you need to click on each one to find the specific journal entry number. Why is this not displayed?

Manual Journals - Option to change column layout, put totals of columns underneath the Debit and Credit columns
The new menu format does not make logical sense. You now have to scroll to see any details and in long journal postings scroll down the page due to unnecessary spacing and you cant resize the columns? In addition, why are the totals for the debit and credit columns not underneath the columns?
Logically, it would make sense to have the description first, followed by account, debit, credit to enable easy review. The new layout appears to be more confusing than anything else. If we can re arrange the rows, can we also re arrange the columns?
The previous format…

Manual journals - wrap titles in search menu
The new menu format makes it necessary to scroll across to see ANY details for journals with long titles, instead of being able to see everything at a glance. Either wrap the titles by default or give us a toggle option to do so.
5 votesThanks so much for sharing this idea. We can see how being able to view long manual journal titles more easily would be helpful, especially when you're quickly scanning your journals.
We've moved your idea to Gaining Support so other customers can vote and add their feedback too. If anyone else would find wrapped titles, or a toggle to control this, helpful in Manual Journals, please add your support and share how it affects your workflow — those details are really useful for our team.
We really appreciate you taking the time to raise this with us and help improve Xero.

Manual Journals - Allow reversed manual journals to be visible on Xero
At the moment, if you reverse a journal with the same date as the original journal, it actually deletes both the original journal and the reversed journal from your manual journal listing in Xero. (You are only likely to do this in error, and it would not be immediately obvious to you as to what you have done). Both journals immediately become invisible and both are thus then uneditable. This should not be the case, there should be an ability to correct your mistakes. The only way to discover your mistake is by the 'Journal report' where you can see…
9 votesHi Neil, thanks for sharing your idea here. We appreciate the need for having a clear view of the reversed journals. We'll move this idea to gain more support from the community so they can share their thoughts and vote on this as well. We will monitor this space for more traction in the meantime.

Manual Journals - Ability to archive repeating journal
Archiving repeating journals
We have had a number of repeating journals over the years. We have gotten to the point where when we want to update these journals, we have to trawl through these. It would be nice to archive the ones we don't need any more so we can just see the ones we need.8 votesHi team, appreciate raising this idea with us. As noted by others right now it is possible to delete a repeating journal.
If you need to repeat the journal again in the future you could turn one of the previously posted journals into a Repeat journal to start this up again.
We don't have any plans for adding an archive option in the short term but will continue to watch the interest for this here.

Repeating Journals - Option to switch from "post" to "draft"
I would like the ability to stop repeat journals set to "post" from posting automatically and edit them to generate as "draft".
I can't see a way to do this currently and have to delete and re-create which is tiresome
7 votesThanks for sharing your idea, we appreciate you explaining how switching repeating journals from "post" to "draft" could help your workflow.

Manual Journals - Date shortcuts to work with pre-entered date
When you use a date shortcut (eg +7) it DOES NOT WORK when using manual journals.
Here's a video demonstrating the problem: https://www.loom.com/share/6f035e84ebce42cab95c67dbbe65a608
I posted this feedback a few days ago and the reply from Xero admin was the function does work as designed, and since the thread is now closed, I've reposted with a video of me using the date shortcuts and demonstrating how they don't work.
1 voteHi TJ, thanks for sharing the short video - I can see what you mean here.
To clarify how date shortcuts work in Manual Journals, they’re based on the current date rather than any date already entered in the field. If Xero doesn’t recognise the shortcut you’ve entered, it defaults to today’s date.
If you want to enter a date from a previous month, the shortcut to use is “Date in a month”, as shown in our help table. For example, 8/Jun or 6/8 would enter 8 June 2026.
I understand the behaviour you’d prefer, so I’ve slightly amended the title of your idea. This isn’t something we have plans of developing for shortcuts at present but we’ll start tracking interest in this date shortcut behaviour from your post.

Manual Journals - Display the total number/count of manual journal entries in each tab
On the Manual Journal Entries main screen show a number next to the Draft tab to alert user of how many draft entries there currently are. We see the number of Bills in Draft tab, it should be the same for journal entries on this new view.
1 voteThanks for sharing this idea, Barbara. We understand the request to show the number of manual journals on each tab in the list view. Having these counts visible at a glance could make it easier to check outstanding journals and review activity without opening each tab.
We've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking community interest. If this would improve your workflow, add your vote and let us know where these counts could be most useful.

Manual Journals - Ability to Sort and Filter search results
Currently you are unable to concurrently search and sort results in manual journals, and can only do one or the other. Searching resets the sort to default (newest first), and sorting clears search parameters.
Please consider adding the ability to do both.
12 votesHey Jon, thanks for sharing this idea. Being able to sort and filter manual journals from the Manual Journals screen would make things a lot easier, especially when you're trying to track something down quickly.
We really appreciate you calling out how this could save time and help streamline your workflow. While some sorting/filtering is possible via the Manual Journal screen, we get that it’s not quite the same and adds a few extra steps.
This idea’s now in the Gaining Support stage. Every vote and comment helps us understand how useful this would be for the wider Xero community and gives our product team more insight when planning what’s next.

Manual Journal Entries - Add detailed history
Hi Team,
We would like to highlight that in India, it is a regulatory requirement to maintain an edit log (Audit Trail) based on the Triple ‘W’ Approach – When, Who, and What.
For example, if a journal entry is edited, the system should capture and display:
Previous values (amount, GL code, date, narration, etc.)
Since this is a regulatory requirement, could you please confirm if an enhancement can be made to comply with this, and share an estimated timeline?
Looking forward to your confirmation.

Manual Journal page - TAB after date should go to auto reverse date
Come on Xero, this should be the flow already, the tab position after entering the date should go to the reversing date, we accountants enter a lot of manual journals that are reversed and it is a pain in the **** to have to mouse click on the auto reverse date to be able to enter the date...
This is a easy fix, this is just the tab index in the page...
8 votesThanks for sharing this great idea, Leandro. We can see how changing the keyboard tab order on the Manual Journal screen would make entering reversing journals more efficient.
We've moved your idea to the 'Gaining Support' stage. This means it's now visible to the wider Xero community, who can vote and add comments to show their support. This collective feedback is a key way our product team gauges demand for new features.
While your idea is gaining support, we wanted to share a couple of other related ideas that you and other supporters might be interested in:
- There's an existing idea to have the reversing journal automatically update when the original journal is edited. You can find it here: Manual Journals - Editing journal with auto-reversal to update related journal/s
- For a potential workaround in the meantime, some users explore third-party browser extensions which can offer more customised keyboard navigation.…

Manual Journals - add drag and drop to import feature
Add drag and drop import feature or allow multiple journals to be import at the same time. For example adding daily sales/payment journals this would a gamechanger in time it take to complete these tasks
4 votesHi everyone, as a quick confirmation through the idea - Right now you can use a CSV file to enter data and import multiple manual journals at once.
However, as per the request in this idea it is not currently possible to select or drag and drop multiple files to upload and create multiple manual journals at once.
If this is something you'd find valuable please add your support to this idea. We're interested to understand the community appetite in this feature.

Manual Journals - Add a Reference column
MANNUAL JOURNAL
Please add a reference column for us to fill up so that posted journal are document in sequence number. The journal ID is actually act as audit trail Instead of journal reference number.
Also, pleas please allow journal entries to be able to post entries to bank...its such a miserable, while journal entries supposingly existed to pass adjustment but doesn't allow pass entries....
14 votesThank you for sharing this idea and letting us know that a reference option would be desirable in manual journals. We’re moving it to Gaining Support so other customers can show their interest in the request. We’re also gradually rolling out a new Manual Journals experience. We’d love to hear what features or improvements you’d most like to see in the new experience, as your feedback will help us share the most valuable ideas with our product team. Thanks again for helping us improve Xero 🙂

Manual journals - Search for a journal by description or reference
Sorting Manual Journal Entries with a specific description or reference for easy search and find
10 votesHi team, thanks for your feedback here. While we are in the process of releasing a new Manual Journals experience, I want to be open that searching by description has not been incorporated into this work.
We are continuing to keep a track of interest for this here and if any plans are made we'll update you here.
An alternative option would be to run the Journal report, where you can include Description as a column and also filter the report to search text that the description you're looking for contains.
