Manual journals - Wrap title in journal list
The new menu format makes it necessary to scroll across to see ANY details for journals with long titles, instead of being able to see everything at a glance. Either wrap the titles by default or give us a toggle option to do so.
Hi community, we appreciate your input and letting us now how the new manual journals experience has landed for you.
Recently we have released a few changes;
While Journal Narration (formerly Title) doesn't wrap on the Journal list, you can now choose which columns do appear so can reduce the view of unnecessary information you do't want to see, and you also have a Compact view option to really maximise the amount of information shown on one page.
For very long journal titles, while this may not all be visible from the list, you can hover on it to view the complete entry.
It'd be great to get your fresh feedback here if these have helped with your needs in this idea.

Yes, adding a line-wrap or word-wrap is a great idea as an option for narrower screens, if I do say so myself.
Here is a mock-up I put together before I saw your contribution. Great minds think alike?I love the new general journals, but can we have an option to hide, shrink (or line-wrap) the tax amount and tax rate?
I often don't use those, but I always need the debit and credit amounts!
Plenty of space is wasted for padding/borders on each left and right side, too.Or, move the debit & credit so I don't lose them off the right-hand side of my screen?
There is plenty of screen-space there, but otherwise it is going to make working with my split-screen setup very difficult.

I was so glad to find others are finding the new manual journal update very frustrating the new update is taking me so much longer to enter into my manual journals. I much prefer the text wrap option for visibility.

In the new Manual Journal screen, please widen the Journal Title field. It is currently so narrow that longer, descriptive titles cannot be viewed while they are being entered.
Screenshot 1 shows the limited visible space in the field. Because I cannot see the full title as I type, my current workaround is to draft it in Notepad and paste it into Xero. The full title then appears in the page heading, as shown in Screenshot 2, but it still cannot be reviewed properly within the actual field.
There is a substantial amount of unused horizontal space in the new layout, as shown in Screenshot 3. The Journal Title field could easily be widened without disrupting the Date or Auto-reversing Date fields. Even extending it into a portion of the unused area would make longer journal titles much easier to enter, review, and edit
A journal title should be easy to enter and review directly in the journal—not require a Notepad side quest.

I would also add it isn't necessary for the 'New Manual Journal entry' to occupy the entire page. Frankly, it's annoying. It was more helpful to retain the navigation pane/tabs at the top of the page for easier navigation.

Jonathan - this is a pretty easy fix for a web developer, see my July 9 comments and screenshot here: https://productideas.xero.com/forums/967133-reports-tax/suggestions/50964163-manual-journals-journal-entry-number-listed#comments
The deeper issue is why this system doesn't index descriptions for lines in manual journals ... this would make 'search' the best option and lead to shorter titles.
here's hoping Xero cares enough to do either, or BOTH!
