Hi all, we appreciate this idea has picked up a good amount of interest. This has all been shared with and considered by our product teams.
As the Contacts screen interacts with many other parts of Xero, this work can not commence until the modernisation of other, related systems is complete.
Due to this, we do not expect account numbers to be automatically generated for contacts to be delivered in the coming short-term.
In the meantime however, we're keen to continue collecting feedback and votes on this idea, and we will provide an update here when there's more details to share.

Hi everyone, thanks for voting and sharing your feedback here.
From the Contacts page you can already click the quick link to the official ABN lookup page to verify a number yourself. Our product team have reviewed the commentary here and appreciate that the ability to do this from within Xero would enhance the process, however at this stage there are no firm plans or timelines surrounding this. As always we'll be sure to return here if there's more news to share 📢

Hi everyone, thanks for the interest in this idea.
As you can appreciate, user roles span across the entire Xero product so there’s many combinations of permissions our customers want to see us build. Specifically, our reporting product team is very much aware of the challenges with the current permission sets relating to sharing individual reports with different users and are beginning to look into how we might be able to alleviate some of these reporting challenges.
However, at this stage it’s far too early to anticipate or confirm any direction on where this discovery work will lead, but it will inform our next steps. Additionally, as I'm sure you can appreciate there are sensitivities of data access and security. Creating upgrades to user permissions will need very careful consideration. As most will be across, the reporting team are leading up to retiring older versions of Xero’s reports on 31…

Hi everyone, we thoroughly appreciate your engagement and sharing how custom fields would be advantageous to you here.
With lots of work for 'building on beautiful' underway atm, we want to be honest that custom fields is not planned in the near term.
Some in the idea here, may find the recent addition of Notes that can be added within the Contact Details section of a contacts record useful in being able to record and view specific detail relative to a contact at present - More on this shared here
We'll continue to evaluate the viability of largely voted ideas such as this when there is resource, however this unlikely in the next 12 months.

Thanks for confirming, Andy - Really appreciate the screenshot. 🙂
I've checked in with our Payroll team where this detail is saved.
We appreciate wanting more options for gender when entering personal details, and in some regions such as AU & NZ this is optional.
Currently, in order to ensure successful payroll filings with HMRC in the UK, we need to match the schema they provide. That said, our team are reassessing how this fits in Xero so I'll shift this Idea to 'under review' and can share any updates that come.Rob Lister supported this idea · -

Hi community, we have an exciting opportunity for a few customers to meet some of our Xero team who are working hard to improve payroll for you.
You'd get a chance to tell us your honest experience with using Xero for payroll, as well as get a tour of the Xero London office!
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in and are available on Monday Sept 30, 1:45 - 3:15pm and could come into our Xero London office, share your details with us through the form here.
There are only a limited numbers of spaces so sign up as soon as you can. 😊

It just needs to know what a day means in terms of working hours, e.g. 8.5 hours is one day. (Not public holidays or weekends / other non-working days for your shift pattern etc.)
Sometimes people request half a day off, so to request 0.5 days occasionally useful.

Hi everyone, totally get wanting to get an update from us on the idea here. Having a fair amount of interest from users I can say that Quote reminders are defintiely on the teams radar, however with current focus largely on new invoicing we do not have any immediate plans for this in the next 6 months.
I can assure you, though we mightn't be able to provide updates as frequently as you'd like to see, our product teams are heavily involved in the forums here and our community team often connect to share trends, discuss developments and externally communicate changes that are coming across Xero products. It's important to us to continue developing Xero to streamline payments and help our customers get paid sooner, and your idea here does sit in this realm.
When the teams resources open up and we can consider new development in Quotes like being…

Hey community, 👋 thanks for all your support on this idea, I’m pleased to let you know that this has been delivered for UK Payroll initially! It includes the ability to select the date range you’re interested in, and check boxes to either select all results or multiple. Then you can download your selection as a single PDF of multiple payslips.
For users in AU and NZ we know this is a highly anticipated feature, however to be open this is not any immediate plans for those teams so we’ll leave this idea open. While we appreciate it doesn’t help employers needing bulk downloads, employees can be invited into the Xero Me portal to self-serve payslip collection.

Invoice numbers
Would be useful. Also:-
- Ability to set the current/next number to be allocated, so if Xero gets this feature, then when you add new contacts, it will generate the account number from the current account number, not "1" etc.
- Account number prefix, e.g. in invoices etc you have "INV-" by default. Have an optional prefix would be useful where you need to match it up with other systems (i.e., it indicates where the account comes from if you have multiple systems where accounts could be.) or possibly if you've imported from an old system or taken over another company's customers/accounts, it would let you identify those customers.
It might be useful to have each account prefix/number generated from either the branding theme or group when initially creating the account.
I think it's because the account "number" is not actually a number at all, but a text field to support importing from other systems. We used to be on Sage a few years ago, then Quickbooks for a while. Sage set the account number to some 8 character tag based on the account name, so "Best Company Ltd" would be "BESTCOMP" by default. Once the account was created, Sage didn't allow you to change it if the company ever changed names. The account number was BESTCOMP forever.
Now let's say you import data from a couple of other systems. It would be useful to be able to set a prefix at this point to identify where it came from and to ensure it is unique in Xero (e.g. is account "1038" on one old system, the same as "1038" on another system?)
