An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedOne of my favorite ways to use the quote title and summary field is that I add them to the quote during creation and have my default quote email template set to:
Email Subject: Quote #[Quote Number] - [Title]
Email Body:
[Summary]The attached Quote #[Quote Number] is also available at: [Online Quote Link]
(My name)
(My contact details)That way my quote emails are fully populated from the get-go with the quote title and summary!
I'd love to treat invoices this way too if Xero will just implement title and summary there!
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedI saw that Xero added a new invoicing roadmap (https://central.xero.com/s/article/Xero-new-invoicing-releases) and am disappointed to see that invoice subject and title support isn't listed as a planned feature. Xero has already done the work for Quotes, so please add it to Invoices as well! I tried "Classic Invoicing" today and it doesn't seem to be supported there either, so I don't know why this requests suggests that we can just "manually input the same title and summary" to invoices. There's no field to paste them into!
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedWe use Xero's title and summary in every single quote to give important details specific to that order but not to any single line item. But Xero doesn't provide anywhere to put important order-specific or summary information like this on invoices. And the alternatives are ugly kluges:
* Adding these details to a description only item-line confuses customers and looks unprofessional since it's not a line item.
* Adding this to the email subject/text means it is lost when customers just pass around the PDF or view the invoice web link. And it's not saved with the invoice, so it's also lost when we try to resend the invoice or view it later.Note that there is also an extremely popular Xero feature request for flowing Quote title and summary through to sales invoices. That's important too, but it's a second step. Invoice titles and summaries need to be supported in the first place before they can flow through. So I hope Xero will keep (and then implement!) both of these separate requests.
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedI wish Xero (who created this feature request in 2015) would update the title and description. This won't just "save users' time rather than having them manually input the same title and summary". Titles and summaries aren't offered AT ALL in new invoicing. So there's no manual workaround. I tried creating a separate feature request for ADDING title and summary to invoices. That's the critical first step before they can add the flow-through-from-quotes feature, but Xero deleted it as a "duplicate" of this one.
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedQuotes include handy and prominent "Title" and "Summary" fields which we use on every single one to provide important individualized details to the customer that is not related to an individual line item. The details appear prominently at the top of the quote and I use the email template feature to put them in the email subject and body as well. But new invoicing has no similar functionality. I have to either shoehorn the info into one of the line items (where it doesn't belong) or in some cases I've even added accounting codes and such to the recipient's "address". I can put it in the email body, but sometimes I have to submit just a PDF. And the email text doesn't show in the online quote page either. It's also lost as soon as you hit "send" rather than being saved with the invoice.
Please add invoice title and summary fields, and make them flow through when converting quotes to invoices. Thanks!
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedToday I was again reminded about this glaring deficiency when a company asked me to send an invoice including some accounting codes for their A/P department on the invoice. This would be easy if invoices had a title and summary like quotes do. In fact it would be AUTOMATIC in that case since the quote I sent them already had this information in the summary. Instead I'll have to shoehorn the codes into one of the invoice line items or maybe as part of the company "address". Either way will look completely unprofessional. Also the title/text of this idea (which was submitted by Xero Team) makes it sound like invoice titles/summaries already exist and just require manual copying. Maybe the old invoicing system had them?
Gordon Lyon supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedHappy new year! We've been waiting on this since 2015, but I'm hoping this is the year that Xero implements this critical suggestion! The suggestion text says it's "to save users’ time rather than having them manually input the same title and summary", but it's much more than that. Invoices don't currently allow titles and summaries at all!

An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedQuotes have a nice system where you can put a title and summary which show up at the top of the quote. It's a terrible shame that Invoices don't offer that. This important information is stripped out when you convert a quote to an invoice and there is not even anywhere to put it back. It's a huge problem for my company.

Hi everyone, totally get wanting to get an update from us on the idea here. Having a fair amount of interest from users I can say that Quote reminders are defintiely on the teams radar, however with current focus largely on new invoicing we do not have any immediate plans for this in the next 6 months.
I can assure you, though we mightn't be able to provide updates as frequently as you'd like to see, our product teams are heavily involved in the forums here and our community team often connect to share trends, discuss developments and externally communicate changes that are coming across Xero products. It's important to us to continue developing Xero to streamline payments and help our customers get paid sooner, and your idea here does sit in this realm.
When the teams resources open up and we can consider new development in Quotes like being…
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedI previously voted for this feature, but now I'm not so sure. One of the main reasons I left Quickbooks Online is that my emails often didn't get through because so many systems classified QBO emails as spam. This seems to be happening more and more with Xero too. The root cause is users receiving Xero quotes and invoices reporting them as spam. Sometimes this happens due to scammers/spammers sending fake/unsolicited invoices, but it can also happen when users get annoyed by unwanted "reminders". I think allowing one automatic quote reminder is reasonable. But beyond that, the recipient probably just doesn't want to buy. If a business wants to badger me with more than one quote reminder, it seems fair that they also have to log in and press send and hopefully write a message.

Hi everyone, completely appreciate wanting to hear from us on the idea here. Having checked in with our product team we totally get the interest in this idea and creating more consistency between quotes and invoices in Xero.
While we'd like to take a closer look into this down the line, we want to be upfront that there's other work that the team are drawn to atm as a priority and creating a shareable link for a quote is not planned at this stage.
It's definitely on the teams radar and we're keeping an eye on the feedback here, as soon as there's any news to share I'll be sure to update you on this, here.An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedAnother reason this would be useful is that the quote emails sent by Xero don't always come quickly. As I type this, I'm sitting around reloading my email inbox waiting for a quote to show up just so I have the link to send to the customer. If this was an invoice, I would have just used the "Get link" option and been done.
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedIt's worth noting that Xero invoices currently offer this feature from the "three dots" option menu and this would be a perfect place to add this on quotes. Xero could make the quote and invoice menus more consistent in order and wording at the same time. The first three items in the invoice menu are "Edit", "Email", "Get link". For quotes, it calls them "Revise" and "Send" and puts them in different spots in the menu. And of course quotes don't even have a "Get link" option, which is the point of this suggestion. Right now I have to send the quote to myself in email just to get the link!
Gordon Lyon supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedYES! All of Xero's efforts making nice online quotes are somewhat wasted when it's so hard to get a link to them. This is especially when I'm generating several similar quotes (e.g. 1 year of maintenance, 3 years, and 5 years). I like to just send an email with a list of quotes and links rather than bombard the customers with individual emails. Right now I have to email each quote to myself first and fish out the links. It's inefficient and error prone. All Xero needs to do is add a "share -> get link" feature like invoicing already has.

Thanks for all your feedback here, everyone. The way you add description only lines in new invoicing is a little different to classic and we wanted to explain in hopes it'll help with how you're using new invoicing.
When entering a description only line, you can enter text in the description field of the line. If you add detail to any other field the line will be treated as a 'financial' line and you will need to include Qty, Unit price, Account and Tax rate.
When an inventory item is added this uses the item code field and the line is treated as 'financial', so it's not possible to use inventory items as description only lines in new invoicing atm.
We appreciate this is how many of you here have been making use of inventory and our product team are closely monitoring the feedback we're getting on this. Though we don't…An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedOne reason many Xero users resort to description-only lines is that Xero new invoicing is inexplicably missing the title and summary lines have long been supported in quotes. So when I convert a quote to an invoice, I don't have any proper place for the order-specific details I had in the quote summary. So I stick them in a description-only item line. It's hideously ugly and unprofessional, but Xero isn't providing any better option. Please add title and summary support to your New Invoicing roadmap! These fields are already there and working perfectly in quotes.

Hi everyone, some time on since my last update I wanted to give you more of an idea of the work we have going on to help reduce the number of steps and actions in new invoicing. Along with the changes mentioned in my last update, we've since released a change to the view of an invoice to shift details back into their own columns (similar to classic), while a small change we know it's improved visibility for some of our customers.
We also have other work in development atm that’ll further help here like a new line item grid when editing your invoice - wrapped up in this we’ll be introducing changes you’ve been asking for like the ability to create a new tracking option or account code without having to navigate away from the invoice, we’re increasing the number of items that you can view from the drop…
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedThanks for the response, but the Xero new invoicing page doesn't mention the title and summary features that you already support for quotes. Are those planned at all? There's currently no good place to put key notes specific to that invoice. Users have been clamoring for this since the existing options are poorly suited:
* We can shoehorn a description-only field to the line-item table, but that kludge solution looks really unprofessional.
* We can add it to the email text, but then it's lost when people pass around just the PDF or visit the URL. And if we resend the invoice, we need to remember to add those details back on.
Please consider adding title and subject support to the new Invoice roadmap. It could work just like quotes! In fact it should flow through from quote when we convert them to invoices. -

Hi everyone, we have some updates in the UK with the bill payments method with Crezco. You now have more control of your cashflows with the ability to schedule bills to be paid at a future date using direct bank transfer. This helps to avoid potential bank charges for same day transactions, and missing due dates. Along with this you'll also be able to stay up to date with your payments with real-time payment status in Xero. Meaning you don't have to log into your bank to check the status of each bill payment. With an overview of all payments made using direct bank transfer, you have an accurate record of which suppliers have been paid, and when.
We know there are users from others regions also interested in the idea here and we'll share if there are any updates for expanding similar functionality in other places.

Thanks for the feedback and great to hear the use you find in repeat templates in Xero.
While there's no way to bulk update templates atm, you may find updating your templates through export & import of invoices more helps quicken things up?
You could export invoices that have been generated from your template to CSV, update the amounts in the exported file, and then re-import.
This will create 'Draft' invoices in your Xero org from which you can create a Repeat template and then delete the draft. 🙂

Appreciate your input here, everyone. Our team is looking into this idea however, they don't have any dates planned on when they’ll develop the ability to schedule emails.
Totally understand how this feature could benefit your workflow though, being able to schedule an email to send during acceptable hours, so you don’t have to remember!
Rest assured that our eyes are on the ground monitoring your feedback and votes here, so please keep adding them in this thread. For the time being, I’ll move this idea into ‘Under review’ status. And if there's any movement, we'll make sure to come back here and let you all know.
An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedThis would be great! For example I have a large enterprise customer who asks that invoices not even be sent near the end of the quarter as they work to close the books. I think it's a dumb policy, but a delayed send feature would help me accommodate it better. And there are many other cases where I need to send the invoice on a particular day and would like to set it up in advance.

An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedYes, please! This can be useful for payment instructions, terms & conditions, etc. An option to append attachments to the invoice PDF itself would be nice too. Some of my customers want everything to be on the invoice itself and can't handle multiple PDFs.

An error occurred while saving the comment Gordon Lyon commentedThis would be really useful! A lot of time and effort is wasted when we have to receive the accept notification, press the "convert to invoice" button ourselves, and then resend it. By then the customer's payment momentum may have been lost. The accept button should convert to an invoice and take the customer straight to the invoice or even the payment screen.

Every day I'm frustrated that invoices don't have title and summary fields like quotes do. It's not just that these fields don't automatically flow through when quotes are converted to invoices, but that invoices don't offer the fields at all! Including the data in an email doesn't work because that's lost when people just view the PDF invoices or the online link. It's also not saved with the invoice. Including the information as a fake line item is an embarrassing and ugly hack. Please do better, Xero!
