Xero Network - Include PDF of Invoice when sent with Xero Network Key
Automatically include PDF of invoice when sending it via Xero Network Key.
Purpose: Some clients need to see the attachment of the invoice. It’s also good for audit purposes.
Thanks for your interest in being able to send a PDF of an invoice via the Xero Network.
While this isn't something we're looking to develop atm. For those in AU and NZ you could look into sending e invoices via the Peppol network.
Through e invoices you can attach and include files as well as a PDF of the invoice - See more on Xero Central

Any update on this? Is this still not possible in Xero? Thanks!

This would make the Xero Network functionality much better! I don't currently use it for my clients with related entities because it is more work to download the bill and send, then go attach in the other entity when you are approving. It is easier to print to PDF and upload to Dext for the other entity

Classic invoicing - why have you removed to send an attachment when using xero to xero. This always worked but lately it has changed...... By the way I refuse to move to new invoicing until xero to xero option is available in the new invoicing.
Xero please listen to your users who know their own businesses and needs. Xero to Xero is a fantastic option and you have removed it and replaced with e-invoicing which no one uses

Thank you for the update. Very much appreciated. I can see you’re using the new eInvoicing, and whilst it’s great that it works for you, over half of U.K. businesses are not VAT registered and therefore can’t use it because it requires a VAT number.
All this said, if Xero can make it work for half the customers, I hold some hope they make make it available for the other half. Thanks again 😊 -

@Tim and @ Clare
@Tim I have confirmed that the file is in the other entity.
I have switched to the new invoicing in Xero so not sure if that makes a difference.
I select the bottom button to say create eInvoice and then click update and send and then on the Send eInvoice pop-up I click Include a PDF copy of this invoice.
This invoice will be sent directly to your customer's financial system and then click send.
It does take a bit to upload in the other Xero file.@Clare
I am not sure about those you are referring to it has been a while since I have set it up so not sure if there maybe something in the setup that will influence it but the tick I am referring to is the one that you select when the Send eInvoice is clicked and a pop-up box appears, like when you email invoices to customers.
Hope this helps. -

Hi,
I currently use Dext's 'Match to Invoice' function to have the PDF attached to the correct invoice with the click of a button, while the invoice is still in draft (in Xero) (not sure if it works if the invoice is already 'Awaiting payments'). So, the invoice is sent throughout the Xero system and also captured in Dext simultaneously. This has saved me quite a lot of time, and it is done while the invoice is being processed. Not the ideal state, but I hope it helps for some of you as it sure helped me save some time.

You may have ticked the box to say "Attach PDF", but did you then check to see if the PDF had actually been sent. I suspect it was not sent ! ! !That option only seems to do anything when EMAILING invoices.

@Yolande
Are you referring to the tickbox on the Confirm Message Settings screen saying "Include PDF attachment" above " Send via Xero Network"?
Or is there another tickbox which works somewhere?
(If you test ticking both boxes mentioned above, the PDF is not attached to the invoice when sent Xero to Xero) -

@Marnus
I am not sure if this is available to everyone, but with the latest update when I switched over to the new invoice method and linked the two companies, I was able to select to attach a pdf when sending the invoices from one Xero file to another.

Hi Xero support gurus
It is now nearly two years since the original submission by Rudi Moritz from Xero and almost 18 months since Xero's Community Manager Kelly Munro's submission indicating no current plans to develop as well as some limited alternate solution if you happen to be in Aus or NZ (we are not).
Has any part of this request moved up on the dev timeline and/or wishlist or nah? It is a rather important consideration for our current 16 instances of Xero for our group of businesses that regularly invoice each other, so a continued non-response forces our hand in figuring out alternate service providers.
I like your platform but this is becoming such a massive time and admin suck that it sours the experience significantly.

Peppol is some overseas portal but NZ govt is using it in conjunction with Xero to scale e -invoicing across all organisations. Haven't implemented it yet but looking at it for 2 organisations - hoping to be zero costs.

What is the Peppol network? Is this another 3rd party add on? Are there additional costs?
-
Trevor Lowe commented
Agree not much use but there is another e invoicing option we will look at Peppol

I am now asking our suppliers who use Xero to refrain from using the Xero to Xero network until such time as Xero fix this BUG. It takes more time for me to download the invoice and attach it to the bill than it would if I used the VIEW and IMPORT options.
Furthermore - We HAVE to have the PDF attached to the bill since Xero allows pretty much any field on a bill to be amended at any time. The accountants and HMRC cannot rely on JUST the information in Xero.
It's a ridiculous situation. -

It seems a backwards step to not be able to add an attachment. Otherwise the feature is good.

Giovanna D'Rozario commented
Without the ability to automatically send PDF attachments within Xero-Xero there is really no point in setting it up as it is duplicating efforts.
-
Rebecca Cutler commented
There is no point having Xero to Xero if the documentation doesn't come with it.
We actually have relating entities & we require pdf for every transaction. -
Sebastien Themens commented
Agree - Without having the PDF attached, Xero-to-Xero is practically useless, unless you are the owner of both companies !
-
Clare Kendall C.FICB commented
Agree with Martin & Ashley, especially on the inefficiency of the current functionality
-
Ashley Hughes commented
Agree with Martin. You've shot yourself in own foot really as due to the fact the invoice does not carry in transit to the recipient landing, you have to take extra steps in any case like download and email separately a copy of the invoice. Talk about defeating the object and almost renders the feature practically useless of its design to save time and effort !
