Reporting - Layout | Option to choose portrait or landscape
Ability to choose either portrait or landscape for aged payable/receivable report layout.
Purpose: To make the layout look more consistent between these two reports.

Hi everyone, understand the confusion in some of the recent comments here. To explain how this works at present - A report will automatically default to portrait or landscape mode based on the width of the report. The more columns you add, Xero will automatically switch the layout from portrait to landscape mode.
The same report should not change from user to user, if you're finding this it may be worth checking your printer fit settings and if these differ.
We don't have plans for developing an option of whether a report prints in landscape or portrait mode atm, but our teams are across the interest of this, so if there's any change we'll share an update on this with you, here.

Xero, to not have any plans to address this request is ridiculous do be honest. All these comments and you just ignore the requests? You have so much effort spend in allowing users to customize reports, which is terrific. I actually appreciate and use the customization features on the reporting screens. Its awesome and so very flexible.
Yet to not allow a user to the space on a page better by switching to landscape when exporting to PDF seems baffling. I send reports to users all the time, and these exported reports look awful...amateurish if I dare say so...
My custom report is forced into a vertical orientation. I have tons of white space between columns on the page, yet my description column wraps to two lines because the report is forced into a vertical orientation when a horizontal orientation would (a) be more legible and (b) would allow me and my recipients to print on one page instead of multiple (and yes, some people do still print reports).
I also work across countries, and the switch between US Letter and A4 would be helpful (and something that generally and expected option in any program these days).
Xero team -- you seem to focus on fancy updates but are loosing sight of the basics, like report legibility and printing. And seem to be ignoring the requests of your users. Please fix this.

Hi Kelly, I have a custom report that doesn't automatically change to landscape. How to I fix this please?

I find it strange that some of my clerks get to print the Aged Payables Detail in portrait and yet I can only do this in landscape. Which makes me believe there is a way to do this, but not sure what is triggering the layout when doing a PDF. I have checked that the printer settings are portrait yet it is still doing this in landscape

You've got to be joking, how difficult can it be to have a portrait print-out. I have always been able to export my reports to a PDF in portrait format. Has this changed??? When are you going to do something about this. Not happy.

Come on Xero - this surely cannot be that difficult??
It is ridiculous not to have the option for printing PDF reports as portrait or landscape. Can this matter please be given some priority level, or at least a response from Xero as to what they are doing about it? -

Oh Come on Xero - it's been 8 (EIGHT!!) YEARS since this feature was first requested - do something about it already!

This functionality needs to be added to ALL reports, especially variance analysis in the Profit and Loss.

My custom Account Transactions report displays in Landscape format but exports to pdf in portrait. Why? Is it possible to customise the report to export to landscape so the report i present looks the same as the way i customised it?

The ability to work on reports - it is so long winded to print them landscape.
Also, if you print double sided, it doesn't give you the optin to flip on long or short edge.
Much easier to work on in portrait format -

LAYOUT!

LAYOUT - can you please add an option that would allow to choose a layout - horizontal or vertical and this would automatically allow for the full text to be captured rather than cutting it to nearest row margin.
Some reports i.e. contact activity reports/statements don't even allow basic customisation and do not generate sufficient details in them!

I commented on this matter 28th February 2023, over a year ago and nothing has been done. This is not just an idea, this is a very functional requirement. It beggars belief that Xero has not moved on this matter. The excuse that a report can be generated in a spreadsheet ignores the time constraints business people work under. Come on Xero, play the game and get it done.

One of my reports came out on Landscape today! Balance Sheet. Do you think I can replicate? While to P&L printed out on Portrait? Please explain.

I have clients that require certain reports in landscape mode. The only option I currently have is to export to Excel, format for landscape, and print to PDF - which is time consuming.

AP & AR Summary reports in Landscape look ridiculous and unprofessional. Please switch back to Portrait, or even better as per the subject of this, allow a choice.

I have created reports that look ugly and are hard to read because there is no ability to choose landscape.
It would also be good to be able to set margin sizes, horizontal and vertical alignment.
Cherry on the top would be formatting fonts, at least being able to use Bold, Underline, and font size. -

Agree this needs to be implemented, landscape is useful on some reports but we should have the choice. Posting on these ideas forums helps us all vent but I doubt anyone at XERO is actually monitoring them anyway

We should have the option of choosing portrait or landscape. At the moment, I have some that show as portrait and some as landscape. There is no consistency and it looks totally unprofessional. Please sort this as soon as possible for us.
