User Access: Lock Dates - Specify User Access
Ability to specify which user has access to the lock dates.
Purpose: To prevent clients from changing prior year figures in Xero after the financials have been published.
Hi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback on this idea. We appreciate you explaining how important more control over lock dates is for protecting your data integrity and supporting your workflows.
As part of our wider review of roles and permissions across Xero, we’re pleased to let you know that this is a feature that we’re exploring controls in and reviewing the viability of. We'll keep you updated here as our plans shape up further.

We want to start limiting staff to not be able to lock the period on XERO. Therefore, we put everyone on standard rights. However, this limits certain abilities like Find and decode, registering Fixed assets, running depreciation etc...

This is absolutely vital for us and our clients as often we find that changes are being made.

Lock dates are helpful to restrict general user access after a month has passed and trying to prepare month end management accounts. However with multiple different roles and the need to pair up Xero with a standalone sales system a wider range of options on lock dates would be really useful.
Example options being:
1) Ability to lock by more specific user roles (sales/purchases etc. not just adviser/not adviser)
2) Ability to lock by specific users (e.g. restrict sales staff so no further invoices can be created, but still allow accounts staff in order to continue month end reconciliations) -

This is very important as clients are going in and changing figures once the tax return has been completed

Perhaps there could at least be a message warning users to check with their accountants prior to unlocking files.

Yes, please add this feature because it creates issues if the financials have been published or tax reports have been submitted.
